hey data. what's your opinion on robots/AI that can die by "natural" causes. like. either their "brains" break down over time or they have built in things that turn them off after a while

im only picking your brain on this because i see a lot of robot fiction where AI/robots/etc are kinda just implied to be immortal and i dont see a lot of thoughts on robots that live less long than humans or about as long

It really depends on how its portrayed. Generally im not a fan of stories where the robots just have hard deadlines. I’ve yet to see it written in a compelling way.

Natural degradation is one i LOVE however. If played as a contrast to their immortality, or played as a point of man vs nature type conflict, its very tasty. A machine mind can run forever in a vacuum, but in the real world it would require care and maintenance. Sea of Rust is one of my favorite examples of this ever. The robots can theoretically live forever, but are limited by part failure, and its been so long without any parts being manufactured, that theres nothing left. They have no choice but to grapple with how much their life matters to them. If they want to accept death, or if they want to kill the guy they know who’s part could save them.

But in general, I really like the humbling quality to it.

The normal (non-astro) toilets are probably on their last legs. With the death of the Scientist Toilet, they've probably lost access to teleport tech and the creation of new elite toilet units. There don't seem to be any more of the bog-standard (haa) toilet-sized toilets - they're presumably not being made any more because they're useless. The faction will probably have to agree to be subsumed by the astro faction or die.

The Secret Agent is playing all sides for his amusement - he helped the infiltration squad defeat the Scientist only because that aligned with his plans.

Silly headcanon: the whole thing is an MMORPG where you play as either a toilet or a hardware. The Secret Agent is just the server owner intervening.

Wait, I said that to be silly but DFB please.

Also silly headcanon: Titan TV absolutely has a praise kink. Just tell them how beautiful and glorious they are and they'll melt. [vaudeville hook pulls me off stage before I can say any more]

wrt the last rb from data's blog of the anon accusing him of being a groomer im also aware of them accusing Me of being a groomer after i showed up in a mutual's notes, as well as a tangentially related third party. i don't know yet if it's to the same extent as the defamation that's been spread about data, but send anything you can to him (or me, so i can give it to him) to help build a strong case for defamation and cyberstalking
