this is indeed a jim kirk feelings spiral and while i have completed some of my work i have only a handful of hours more to finish it so i will have to join you ANOTHER TIME but for now you must imagine me clutching my heart and gurgling from these feelingsssssss

I have a complicated answer? I listen to music the day(s) before sitting down to write so the feeling percolates through my brain for a while? So it's not psyching up so much as getting down to think??? All of AM (Arctic Monkeys)... (1/2)

Ahhh, I love seeing your list -- thank you so much for sharing with me!  I don’t know Pentagon or Big Bang at all; I’m going to give them a listen today. You are ORGANIZED for listening to the music that will inspire you the day before.  I agree with you (or at least I think that’s what you mean with your mention of that distinction) that the psych-yourself-up music is different from working music; I”m definitely interested in people’s psych-yourself-up stuff right now. 

As for working music, I used to listen to music while I wrote all the time, and has such specific bands and songs associated with particular pairings.  Now, unless I’ve made a specific fanmix for myself for that story (so it’s familiar, sets a particular mood or cycles through a particular narrative that fits the story), I usually write in silence/to coffee shop noise/with the background noise of the mister laughing uproariously at something.  But I often listen to stuff in the lead-up to writing just to spark ideas or try to energize myself.

Yes.  That was the very first tag I blocked.  I’m definitely not asking for everyone to use the exact same tag.  And in case anyone else asks, I currently have every variation of the show name I’ve encountered blacklisted at the moment -- at a quick count, twelve so far.

Please keep some kindness available for yourself. Nearing the end of your writing is no easy task, and you are doing it under new and unusual circumstances (new house, hubby away, surgery, and fam get together soon IIRC). Congratulations on being so near!

Thanks, friend! I kind of suck at being nice to myself, but I’m working on it. At this point it doesn’t look like I’m going to make it, but I got a lot of other stuff done today, and I’ll probably still have some time tomorrow to write before my family gets here, so there’s still hope!

I am seeing your posts re: your spider problem. I've been wondering if you (US-ians) don't have an annual treatment of your homes with a chemical repellant for insects??? Maybe this is an Aussie thing? Like, not all homes get them here, but we host internationals who find local wildlife somewhat offputting so we have to, but it's definitely a Thing. I can always tell when the year is up because I will see literally just one and realise that our protection is over. You don't have similar?

We definitely have exterminators who provide chemical treatments here, but you have to seek them out and hire them yourself, and it’s not something everyone opts to do. It also depends on where in America you live too, I think. When I lived in Texas, we had cockroach problems, so we had an exterminator come spray quarterly to keep them away, and most of our neighbors did too, but there aren’t as many bugs where I live now, so it’s usually only something people do if they have a problem, like an ant infestation or termites or something. But it’s definitely something I’m going to look into! I already found an exterminator near us with good reviews, and I plan to bully my husband into calling them for pricing once he gets home, haha.
