I'm not sure they have a good grasp on what "more" means; they're saying:

MORE Feared Attack: mind blast psionic power in a 6" cone (of tabletop game-map-inches).

Less Feared Attack: If it hits you with one of its FOUR different tentacle attacks, it removes your brain in d4 melee rounds, and then eats your brain, and you die.

But sure, I bet Mind Blast is REALLY frightening to all you brain-inside-your-skull-having Adventurers.

I just finished reading Murakami’s After Dark and my brain is sort of a mush. Not that it was too confusing, but because there’s so many questions left unanswered and every interpretation seems to conflict with certain events in the story. If I felt like this after reading his (apparently) simplest novel, then perhaps IQ84 will be some next level. 

I read one or two analyses, and they seemed really straightforward but anything I came up with is so complex and probably so deep that it totally misses the mark? I thought although we may physically be asleep, our soul or conscious never rests; it is awake somehow in some other realm/parallel universe and we live vicariously through this other version of ourselves (even in sleep). Though at times there are discrepancies that allow us a split second glimpse (like a glitch) where we sense this “second reality”.

Eri seems to be in some sort of limbo and there’s no longer a wall between these two versions of herself. And how that dude who barely sleeps stares at himself in the mirror waiting for “something to happen”, and he has already turned around and doesn’t see that “he” is still in the mirror (and implicitly mentions he is somehow disconnected from “this” world, or whatever reality he’s living in). I understand that darkness is an underlying metaphor in the novel and maybe represents the darkness that is the human soul. idk what is concrete in this story, and what isn’t.

anyways WHAT is this book omg, i’m too stupid for this.
