i CANT STAY FOCUSED HAVE MORE DIADEM AND MENANOK
Pidge: Mindflayer Warlock
What if a Mindflayers wanted to learn all things? Including magic? Well my tabaxi tiefling mix is going to cross faerun! Looking for all the knowledge (and brains) for her squid masters!
Her patron an elder brain, named both after a green lantern AND A God of knowledge!
With both small feral form and anthro form!
Um hello, our brains are being liquified, EXCUSE ME???
I'm begging y'all to stop tagging the emperor/mindflayer when you're about to post less than surface-level headcanons about illithid lore. I'm about to start harassing you people with quotes and page numbers. Every day, my dash is hit with the most inaccurate non-lore-compliant "what ifs" about their species that could easily be refuted if you read just the wiki for about three minutes.
Yes, they have empathy, yes, they have feelings, yes, they can form genuine relationships, no, they do not eat Just Brains, yes, they can be good, yes, they have souls, yes, Tav Flayer is still Tav Flayer if you pick the "I'm still Tav" option. That has been in lore since the 90s; it is not new just for bg3, and it has been stated by the Larian writers on camera that Tav Flayer is still you/the companion.
I still think it's so funny that illithid are always depicted as having human thralls, but then you look into their colonies and the vast majority of the population looks like this:
And they're all happy to be there because they like it when mind flayers tell them what to do; they're not even enthralled. It's enrichment for them.
ceremorphed @thechandraraj's Yo'lun'ma because they drew her as a squid for one (1) single panel of their comic. Pretty golden cuttlefish for her :)
Do you have a favorite official depiction of illithids? I really like Tony DiTerlizzi's various illustrations of them, particularly the very cuttlefish-inspired flayer in Dragon magazine 262.
hrrrnng... I have a few.
I love W. Reynolds's Alhoon from Lords of Madness and The Symbiont guy from Dragon magazine 308 by Kalman Andrasofszky. The edgy graphic artstyle and strapped-up leather goths of the 90s and super early 2000s will forever be my favorite aesthetics. I also LOVE biomechanical stuff so much, so symbiont guy was basically made for me.
I loved these two so much, I slammed them together to make Diadem. I even stole the alhoon's lil pussy V belt :)
I want to eventually get a physical copy of that DM issue, but I don't think that's gonna be feasible with my ass being chronically broke, if any copies even still exist.
