god I wish Annabeth and Percy were never in HoO
They had their character arc. They had five books to grow and mature and change. They faced their battles and experienced loss and love. PJO was their series. By the end of TLO we knew their story was coming to an end. Their war was ending, Annabeth and Percy were together and their lives were beginning to become peaceful.
So why fuck that up by throwing them into HoO, and not only that, but make them the main focus? I love Percy and Annabeth, trust me, I grew up with them, but HoO didn't need them, and they didn't need HoO. They didn't need more change or challenge. Their arc was finished. There was nothing else for them to learn. So why would Riordan force them into HoO?
I assume it was to make the transition easier, or something. Maybe Riordan wasn't confident in his ability to make us relate to these new characters, which tells us a lot about Riordan post-PJO. Maybe he was hoping to sell this new series on Annabeth and Percy's sellability and fame after PJO's succsess. He forced these characters into a story that didn't need them and the new characters suffered because of it.
Annabeth and Percy were a main focus of the second series and that took time from characters we knew little about. Half of HoH was devoted to Annabeth and Percy in Tartarus, while I can't confidently tell you that the seven actually knows each other's last names. We know everything about Percy and Annabeth by TLO. There's not a lot left to explore. Riordan is shaking these characters in our faces, going 'look at how cool they are!’ while we all nod along in confused agreement, because we know how cool they are. We know Percy's powerful by BoTL and how intelligent Annabeth is. That has been established.
So why do that again and again in HoO. Riordan takes immense fun in showing us how cool his old characters are, especially in Tartarus. While at the same time, the other five characters barely get any chance to show us their powers. In my opinion, and you can dismiss this if you want, but the whole argument that Percy is the strongest demigod (which is such a stupid fucking argument all demigods are powerful in their own field) stems from the fact that we have literally never seen the other big three characters (save for nico) do cool shit. We never got a Mount Helens moment with Jason or Hazel because the plot never had time for them to do that. And it's not like Jason doesn't have the same experience in battle as Percy. They fought in the same War!! They should be of equal skill. And Hazel's just fucking cool. And with the new characters, their powers deserved to be explored. Like how powerful really is Piper’s voice. And how the fuck does a son of Hephaestus have the ability to obliterate a primordial goddess. And Frank's burnt wood!!.
It's also telling that Percy and Annabeth aren't the main focus of the prophecy. That honour goes to the lost trio. It started with Leo and Jason, and it ends with Leo and Jason. The theme of motherhood is the main thread of HoO, while fatherhood is the main thread of PJO. Leo and Jason are two sides of the same coin. Both without mothers, who were favoured by Hera/Juno and have complimenting powers. If it was just this five, then we could learn more about their pasts, their powers and how five strangers on a magic ship would interact. It would be a nice revival for the series, with some cameos from Annabeth and Percy, but it would ultimately revolve around these new characters.
God. It makes me a wee bit angry that Riordan forced Annabeth and Percy onto the Seven. It was so unnecessary and just added to the clusterfuck that was HoO. Hnnhndnnndsdnks-

Don't just mindlessly judge people as you please.
the closer it gets to him coming home the more I want to vomit.
i don't like what he did to me, and almost did to me.
trying to figure out everything, all the necessary steps I will have to take, doing all of this for the very first time by myself w three kids.
i am terrified. sick to my stomach every day. i just want it all to be over. to be on the other side finally. to not have to be around him anymore. but I don't know when that will happen...
i love the thing about sawanatsu and sekai is that they’re always referencing something whenever they’re on videos wwwww like here sawanatsu is doing a proper pose, that is not just his usual “random dancing that feels like its referencing something”
Meanwhile sekai is always referencing some otaku stuff like this is jjk gojo satoru’s pose
