Friday photo therapy
There is so much noise and so much information swirling about right now. And I don’t have any hard and fast answers. And I don’t have any suggestions any different than what a “million” other people are saying.
So, in order to not add needlessly to the noise, I would like to offer another few pictures from the last two months. Because what I do know, is that where I set my mind is of extreme…

Imagine people's nostrils as their eyes.
Laugh at it and think

Pale Blue Dot
Earth and Moon from Mars orbit (not the Pale Blue Dot image) Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. This image of Earth taken from Mars’ orbit represents my theme today. While doing some house-keeping on my YouTube Favourites recently I re-discovered again an except from Carl Sagan’s work Pale Blue Dot. Rediscovered again? Are we going all Sam Beckett here? (No. Not…

Business Intelligence Leadership and Communication Skills: Reflection
The Business Intelligence Leadership and Communication Skills class this month met my expectations. I’ve learned a bit about my self this month, there is always room for learning, growth, and challenge. I really enjoyed week one the most, with “12 o’clock High” as a tool to show the characteristics of exemplary leadership. “12 O’clock High” was a great example to show how grit, ambition, and resilience are important traits to have as an exemplary leader. In order to influence others, you must have the 5C’s- confidence, competence, courage, commitment, and compassion. However, from this course, I learned that we must add the 6th C to this, communication.
Leadership and communication skills are two very important skills to have in the workplace. The Mind Tools assessments “How Good Are Your Leadership Skills” and “How Good Are Your Communication Skills” were a great tool to help me identify my strength and weakness in both of these areas. They were spot on with my weaknesses and areas in which I need to improve, self-confidence, drawing the line between supervisor/subordinate, crafting a message, feedback, and decoding-interpreting a message will be all areas that I will focus on.
I hope to further my leadership and communication skills and goals by using the development plans I built this month. By applying the concepts learned from our text “The Leadership Challenge: How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations” and the assessments daily as I move forward in my career it will help me become not only a better leader but a better communicator.

MIND TOOLS
I though this video was a great addition to show how the brain works differently with many different ways of thinking. In the video it touches on how our brains automatically react to different situations based on how we were trained and how our brains were trained. Analyzing the different ways a brain automatically perceives things is very interesting!
