Day 17: Not A Date — Minerva Bane x Jace Wayland

“You’re such a fucking Shadowhunter,” Minerva declared, rolling her eyes at the blond seated across from her.

“And you’re just like your dad,” Jace retorted.

Minerva opened her mouth, but was interrupted by Maia arriving with two drinks.  She gave Jace his scotch, neat, first, and then handed Minerva her cosmo.

“Enjoy the rest of your date,” she said — mostly to her fellow Downworlder, “and holler if you need anything.”

“It’s not a date,” they both corrected at once.

“Right, of course not,” Maia said, not bothering to hide her disbelief as she returned to the bar.

Maybe they hadn’t realized it yet, but Maia had been working at the Hunter’s Moon for a while, and she knew a date when she saw one.  She only hoped they would figure it out soon, before her window in the betting pool closed.

1. Aurora Anderson and the warblers have a tradition of not talking about their university choices until they’ve all decided where they’re going — it’s how they make sure that they all choose the best school for what they want instead of making their decisions around each other

2. Jo Clarke is always stealing John B’s shirts to wear over her bikini tops, and she steals his bandanas to tie her hair

3. Ceridwen Lewis was a drama kid all the way through university

4. Minerva Bane uses spanish terms of affection for Magnus and Raphael because she picked them up from Raphael (primarily pronouncing Papá in the Spanish way and calling Raphael “hermano”)

Minerva “Minnie” Bane in This Is The Hunt

Family meant something different in the Downworld than it did to Shadowhunters.  And despite being so much younger than most of her immortal colleagues, even Minerva understood that much.  How could she not, when her entire family was based around the idea of choice, not blood.  How could she not, when she’d gone from Minerva to Minnie Bane, from an orphan to the daughter of the High Warlock, from an only child to the younger - physically and chronologically - sister to a vampire?  No, Minnie absolutely understood that family was about love and protection, and she absolutely understood how much her family - and herself - and suffered at the hands of the Nephilim.  So when her dad decides to invite a group of teenage Shadowhutners into their home, she’s less than impressed.  But Magnus does what Magnus wants, so Minnie makes herself a promise: this time, she’ll be the one protecting her family, and if she has to burn the world to the ground to do it, well, so be it.
