You know, it is VERY annoying that people just stop their metas or analysis at "Megatron was right" without actually acknowledging that even though he was right with certain things, what he did afterwards WASN'T and actually discredited his actions

In the majority of the continuities, any reason Megatron had for starting a million years civil war is lost pretty quickly, and he only ends up caring about power and being feared, even if he tells himself otherwise

You literally CANNOT ignore that when making an analysis, that he started accepting a shit ton of war crimes and shut up about idw autobots, that's like. the only or the most popular continuity where the autobots committed crimes and like. EVEN THEN they pale in comparison with the Decepticon's

And you can't ignore that in the strong majority of continuities where Optimus and Megatron were fighting for the same cause that Optimus is the one that manages to make things better to Cybertron and it's people by working on the inside - something that Megatron does not want to do

Which I think ends up being the crux of the problem with people's interpretations and analysis - the fact that if they DID go further, they would have to acknowledge that Megatron failed (and that in most continuities any excuse of fighting for a cause is just that - an excuse, and most times to hide the fact that Megatron is greedy for power) and that Optimus managed to do what their cause wanted - a better and fairer place and that it would have been easier and with a LOT less problems had Megatron not started the war in the first place simply by working on the inside and getting support and actual power to change things

Which is a blow to the popular belief nowadays that "if a government is corrupt, you cannot save from the inside" which is SO BAD for various reasons, even if only because it get's people to stop being involved which makes it HARDER to save the government (and makes it more easily corrupt) and thus creates a vicious circle that people don't want to acknowledge.

And that's fine... In fact, I tell people if my taste don't align then you know what to avoid as well. Besides I haven't seen it, so it could be awful (and not in the fun way). But I *think* I know where she's coming from, 🧐or at least how I see it and it's right up my alley. It could be terrible, but even that I can see taking a wide swing in way I like. .....I like the exploitation vibes and I'm prepared for yall to act like some normal range nasty is just unbelievable pearl-clutching/confusing stuff just like yall did for Saltburn, because these are the times we live in. 🙄 That said. Good or bad... this is *absolutely* needed. Some of yall are some squares too concerned by the "correctness" to enjoy book inaccurate horny trash! (affectionate). I think it's a good thing that Komaki told Kakeru what he did wrong and that she got mad at him. That was a good wake-up call for Kakeru and sometimes you need someone you love to get angry at you to make you realize what you messed up about.

I agree! Because that’s what Kakeru needs to understand people, and it sets him up to build other relationships as well. 

Kakeru is kind of self-centered, so he needs people in his life who will tell him when they’re pissed because that’s his cue to start looking at things from a different angle. We see this with Komaki and Yuki, but also Machi. 

Komaki gets upset that Kakeru lashed out at Tohru, Yuki got upset when Kakeru started making assumptions, and Machi gets upset when Kakeru asks if it’s his fault when she trashes the student council room. 

So Kakeru is self-centered, but he’s also self-aware of that which means that he can recognize that his tendency to apply his own viewpoint gets him into trouble; so by the time Machi is upset with him, he knows that he’s not seeing things from her point of view because he’s done this with Komaki and Yuki. And that’s kind of the first step to building their relationship. :)

Like obviously Aziraphale has a pretty significant character arc. But how much is he also just the kind of person who’s 90% people-pleasing and keeping to the rules and 10% absolutely immovably stubborn?

I've seen so many different iterations of Shinsou's quirk in fanfiction. Some are nightmarish (watching your body move against your will), some are cathartic (immediately silences a busy mind and stomps panic attacks instantly), and others claim you're totally unconscious under its effects and thus don't remember a thing. What's your take on Brainwash, specifically for Trial by Fire? (Is it reasonable to look forward to Shinsou using Brainwash to help Kacchan ride out an anxiety attack?)

Honestly, it’s a difficult question, because it’s not like we really know all that much about Brainwashing. We know how it works in general (people being affected after responding verbally and doing what Shinsou tells them to as long as it doesn’t require actively thinking/accessing knowledge or memories they have to do it), but not much about how a person affected feels. There’s only two accounts we really get of how it may work.

The first is, of course, Izuku.

He’s under Shinsou’s Brainwashing here, but he’s very obviously thinking clearly. He’s aware of what’s going on and is trying and failing to control his body, although he notes that ‘his head is fuzzy’. However, considering the involvment of OfA’s vestiges shortly thereafter, this seems to be an exception to the rule. Every other person affected didn’t remember what happened during the time they were brainwashed. Izuku does.

The other account we have for certain is Ojirou.

He says after he ‘snapped out of it’, he was ‘suddenly aware of what was happening’. This implies that unlike Izuku, he hasn’t been aware before. He was basically knocked out and his body was a puppet. And that’s how it seems to work in all cases except for Izuku’s, who had the nightmarish version of being aware, but not in control of his body.

Since that is how I interpret the Quirk to work with the current, available information (I don’t seem to recall anything more specific on the subject being given in the joint training arc), this is how I will be portraying this Quirk in any fics I write in which Shinsou might be present. For ‘Trial by Fire’ specifically, I suppose it could be used on Katsuki to forcibly calm him down, since it would immitate him ‘passing out from panic’ without the actual passing out. Question is, how will Shinsou use it on a boy who can’t verbally respond to him? Because thus far?

Yeah, seems like it really has to be a verbal response. Can’t get around that XD

So, maybe this is just so obvious that no one is saying it but...

In the scene with Dean and Pamela she reads his mind in the pause between “How come you always have a boyfriend?” and “How come you always want what you can’t have?”. The first line, “How come you always have a boyfriend” is, in fact, begging for her to say in the long pause “How come you don’t?”. That’s what you’d say, even just for symmetry of dialogue, let alone b/c if you’re ribbing your buddy that’s precisely what you’d say, especially if he was either very straight or very gay. But if you’re a good friend, you wouldn’t say it to someone who hasn’t recognized their sexuality yet. 

Instead, she stares at him and then asks “How come you always want what you can’t have?”, associating it very strongly with the “boyfriend” question and the significant empty space of throwing it back at him. And, yeah, that’s interesting phrasing based on what we know of Pamela and her likeliness to have boyfriends instead of lovers: “Who’s Jesse?” “Well, it wasn’t forever.” So introducing the idea and term “boyfriend” is super deliberate, associating it with what Dean wants but [thinks] he can’t have even more so.

And, finally, using the follow-up dialogue to confirm that it’s not about her (so no room for misinterpretation) and that she knows because she’s psychic. She sees through Dean (just as she saw through Cas when she looked at his true form and went blind) and what she sees is a glimpse of what he wants but can’t have...and it’s not her. 

One final layer to this is that Pamela, like the rest of the bar, is created from Dean’s mind. Either Michael built it or Dean did but it’s representative of his subconscious mind both ways. That means HE knows that he doesn’t really want Pamela and that, instead, he wants what he believes he can’t have. He’s aware, on some level, of his own performing and what is missing from his life. The coding of Pamela as a Cas stand-in is underscored by the wing necklace, the T-shirt, her close link to him in “Lazarus Rising” (she even grabbed the handprint too) and the evocation of that scene explicitly in the episode. Pamela was a conduit then too, before Cas appeared in his earthly vessel. And she’s definitely one here too.

Weird realization

Assuming the Amayar are a splinter group of the Dai’shan Aiel, their belief that the world they lived in is the ‘illusion’ that will eventually end (when the Great Hand melted and their mass suicide) sounds an awful lot like the Aiel idea of the world being a dream that you’ll eventually wake up from (die). This could have a really interesting implication that the association between life being a dream and death being when you wake up may have actually been a Dai’shan belief originally, or at least had a basis in Dai’shan beliefs.
