New Alchemist, Who Dis?

I am very proud of the progress made in the last... Fuck me running, it’s only been six months Bit of time! When I first introduced these two characters, I half expected to be bored of them by the end of June. They were only meant to be a side project while in quarantine. I pieced together a story from a pile of scrap ideas and slapped a sketch of them on top (pictured in the top left corner). Little did I realize the reservoir of potential hidden beneath them.
Now as we gingerly step into 2021, I’ve found myself with two characters brimming with story. I figured I’d honor their growth by redrawing their first sketch. And boy! What a difference six months a decade can make. There’s still plenty I have left to learn and much more I need to improve upon. But this, here, helped prove to me that progress can always be made. Even if it means only taking little steps here and there.
There’ll be some minor changes made to Max and Auggie’s story as I start writing again. None of their interactions with others should be drastically affected. Only their backstory will be fine tuned and readjusted. The detail worth noting will be their difference in age. After receiving advice from others and a bit of deliberation, I decided to age the siblings up by a couple years. Augustine will now be seventeen going on eighteen (thank the Gods) and Max will have just turned twenty-five!
I’m very excited to start editing these two into an optimal version of themselves! And in part, I’d like to thank all of you for such an encouraging environment. All the support and kinds words have helped me out of my awkward shell. I’ve been more adventurous with my art (both writing and drawing) in eager attempts to keep pace with all the amazing talent I see come across my dash. This year has been...Less than savory. Easier for some. Rougher for others. And seeing a place where people gather to lift one another -barring the occasional ass- has really helped to make all these funky events tolerable.
Never stop creating, my dudes. Because you’ll never how much your art means to someone else.

The only good thing about this account is murder and detectives (for the most part) are timeless and I dont have to do much to drop them in another timeline. Phew. Anyway Victorian Verse???
Edith: Okay so... in the 20s sexual and gender exploration was all over the place. Maybe not in all branches of society but JESUS just look up Vita Sackville-West and her life and you'll get an interesting picture of the queer community at the time and some of the freedoms people had. Not everything but, fucking fascinating stuff. But a Victorian Verse would be stricter to gender rules. And I think in that case Edith would have less comfortable ground to stand on. Also, 1920's fashion was loose, a bit form fitting, but dresses and skirts flowed and you can move easily. This won't be the same in the Victorian era, so instead of dresses she would wear trousers. Some women who dressed as men still wore corsets, some didn't. Edith sure as hell wont be found anywhere near a corset. She hates restriction. She might be more irritable in this verse because hell women couldnt even vote yet. She deals with enough people looking down on her in the 20s, any whiff of that in the Victorian era will set her off. Edith would probably wear a beaten down tophat to match her husband and just look somewhat more scary when she doesnt talk. Still working in murder tho with her husband
Theodore: Well... honest to god I always imagined if Theodore presented as female, the Victorian Era would be his time to shine. There's something in how much formality there was at the time that his wit would be even sharper (if i can even... be clever enough to write it??) He's the type to easily slip in and out of rooms, discreetly insult your wife, and look incredible in a tux when he wears one. Golly gee. He'll probably enjoy this more than everybody else to be honest lol. Still married to Edith and solving murder, just with less modern techniques at their disposal. Imagine him in a tophat. With his blond hair just peaking out underneath. Good shit 👌
Graham: Pinkertons were established in Chicago in 1850 i think?? So he's still a-ok. And if not in Chicago than hell maybe Scotland Yard. He'll probably be seen drinking more often now that Prohibition doesnt stand in his way. Granted he wont drink too too much since all it does is make him more tired than before. Still disheveled, just with a slightly different silhouette and i have to figure out what hat he's going to wear. A bowler just doesnt seem right. Whether he's living in America or England, he really likes the Queen so dont insult her near him.
Thomas: jesus i really dont have to change much??? On any of them, just their outfits THANK GOD so thomas is now tiny tim no im joking sjfjskjf he's still a rich boy who pretty much loses everything; family, home, school, after the ""big event"" he might be more withdrawn with the constant movement in the streets before cars were invented, crowds stress him out (not to say there werent a lot of pedestrians in the 20s but cars granted a ton of freedom and slight laziness to the everyday man) he'll be more easily overlooked and ignored by most of the adults. Wow, Thomas might actually be... a little more depressed than usual. Im tempted to be a prick and leave him in the orphanage because... I dont think an unmarried woman like Natya (been awhile since i mentioned her) could afford to watch and help a kid on factory worker's wages and hours in the Victorian Era. Holy shit, someone help Thomas this time he's not doing so hot.

My phone keyboard has updated or something. It keeps showing me an undo button whenever I type, or at least occasionally when I type. It's kind of annoying me, and I think it's making it harder for me to focus and type. I know it's a small thing, but it's annoying.
I'll adjust eventually, I know. But it's just frustrating to me, so I wanted to get something written down about it.
