I am glad you called out how at least inconsiderate Eddie has been towards Buck. And the love bombing, god, I am glad someone finally called it like it is. Eddie never deals with his issues with Buck. Instead, he dangles what Buck longs for in front of him (a family). He always uses his family to pacify Buck from his rightful anger, and it's so manipulative. Buck is not perfect, but damn Eddie is such an ass to him all the time, including throwing his biggest insecurity in his face many times.
Eddie uses Chris as a tool in his arsenal for "handling" Buck all the goddamn time.
during the lawsuit, Eddie uses Chris as a weapon to hurt Buck, to punish him for suing the department: "Do you know how much Chris misses you? How would you? You're not around."
before the tsunami, Eddie uses Chris as a tool to get Buck out of his blatant depression by dropping Chris off at his apartment (unannounced), and instead of actually checking on his friend, who needs him, he cracks a joke about how "You being laid up is really working out for me." because he doesn't have access to any other form of childcare.
after the shooting, when Buck is blaming himself and struggling with his self-worth, Eddie uses Chris as a lure to keep Buck around: "I changed my will, so if anything happens to me, Chris will be looked after, by you." he does this, again, without consulting Buck about it.
after the lightning strike, when Buck is still comatose, Eddie uses Chris as a shield for himself to excuse to the others why he hasn't gone to see Buck yet. that, of course, falls apart when Chris demands to see Buck. then, after Buck wakes up, Eddie visits with the team, but he uses Chris as a shield again, refusing to actually engage with Buck himself, instead choosing to push Chris at Buck.
and then, of course, in the aftermath of this fight, Eddie chooses to leave without an apology, after leaving a very passive aggressive, vague note that he knew would be misinterpreted, to go and collect Chris and use him as a tool, once again, to garner Buck's forgiveness.
it's lovebombing, plain and simple.
and this isn't counting all of the endless times that Eddie has relied on Buck to manage the emotionally difficult aspects of parenting. it was Buck that Chris ran to after Eddie started dating Ana. it was Buck who had to talk with Chris about Chris's grief over his mother and the rest of his family being so out of reach during the covid lockdowns. it was Buck who had to tell Chris that Eddie had been shot, and then had to take care of Chris for the time that Eddie was in hospital (while managing an extremely high-stress situation at work at the same time). it was Buck who found childcare for Chris in the first place. it was Buck who found the equine therapy place for Chris. it was Buck who had to come and comfort Chris during Eddie's s5 breakdown. it was Buck who had been called in to try and talk Chris out of moving to Texas with his grandparents in the wake of Eddie's latest mistake.
Eddie constantly, consistently, uses his son to manipulate Buck, and no one ever seems to want to talk about that, so I will.
