Yeah, I’m still working on these. Why can’t MintyFicWeek be forever?
Thump thump. Thump thump. Monty felt the beat of his heart get louder and faster as he approached the rollercoaster. He looked back to where the other students were standing, waiting for him to run back, scared.
They’d spent the whole day daring each other to do things like ride certain rollercoasters and pull pranks on random strangers. And now, here Monty was, standing in front of the tallest, fastest, scariest ride in the entire park, Death Mountain. He’d heard people had actually died on this ride.
But Monty was not about to run back to a group of tenth graders, he’d never live it down. He could handle this. It was just a rollercoaster.
“Are you scared?” Monty heard a voice ask from beside him. Monty turned to see Miller smirking from across the barrier. Miller, the bane of his existence.
They’d met in middle school, and back then, Monty had actually liked him. Who wouldn’t? Miller was smart, he was rich, he was popular, and he was hot. Monty had had a crush on him from the moment he’d laid eyes on him.
But now? Monty knew better. Miller might be all of those things, but he was also a jerk. Or at least that’s what Monty was trying to tell himself. Miller had spent the entire day daring Monty to do incredibly difficult tasks, expecting him to fail. Monty hadn’t so far, but Miller’s smirk stayed solidly on his face. Monty had promised himself that by the end of the day that Miller would no longer have any reason to smirk him. And that he’d get over this damn crush once and for all.
“Not even a little bit, Nate,” Monty scowled back, calling Miller by the name he hated. Monty didn’t wait for a reaction, though, he turned back and walked up to the park employee, who pointed at an empty seat. Monty got in, pulling the seatbelt on and the bar down over his head.
As the car moved forward, Monty could already feel the butterflies in his stomach. He crossed his fingers that he wouldn’t get sick. The car inched forward slowly, moving upward. He could feel his friends watching him, although they probably couldn’t see him very clearly anymore. The car reached the top of the peak and then whoosh, he flew forward, his stomach dropping as the car moved downward, then jerked to the side, going up and down, looping so that Monty was upside down and then right side up again. The ride was too quick for Monty to think properly, and before he knew it, he was back where he started.
“Whoo! Way to go Monty! See, I told you, he’s not scared of anything!” Jasper yelled as Monty walked back towards them.
Harper rolled her eyes, but the rest of the group looked suitably impressed. Even Miller, Monty was pleased to note.
“Nice one, man,” Wells grinned.
“I was expecting vomit. Now, I’m disappointed,” Murphy said, shaking his head despite the grin on his face.
“Quit being so gross,” Clarke replied with a frown.
“Quit being such a girl, Griffin.”
“What’s wrong with being a girl, asshole?” Raven growled, whipping her head around.
“I am so sick of this. Murphy, stop baiting them,” Bellamy groaned.
“Monty, who’re you going to dare next?” Monroe asked.
“I think we should stop now,” Miller cut in.
“I agree,” Octavia nodded. “I’m hungry.”
“That’s not fair,” Monty huffed. “Why does Miller get to decide when we finish?”
“Well, we’ve all gone, so I think it makes sense,” Clarke answered, not unkindly. “Plus, we kind of skipped lunch and I’m really hungry.”
“Fine,” Monty grumbled, glaring at Miller just a little bit.
As the group was walking, looking for a place to eat, Monty spotted a giant teddy bear next to one of the games.
“Ooh, wait, I want to win that!” Monty called.
“There is no way you are going to win that bear,” Murphy snorted. “What are you going to do with it anyway?”
“I totally can!” Monty insisted. “And I don’t know? Give it to my little sister? Donate it? Who cares, I just want to win it.”
“I’m hungry!” Octavia whined.
“You guys keep going, I’ll catch up with you afterward,” Monty offered.
“Umm, I’m going to go get food,” Jasper said, hesitantly.
“That’s fine, I’ll stay, I want to see this,” Miller grinned.
Monty groaned silently. He did not want to be alone with Miller. It was happening, though, and Monty was not going to show weakness. He walked up to the ring toss area, paid the man behind the counter and very carefully eyed the bottles.
“You know all these games are rigged,” Miller commented.
Monty ignored him, he was probably trying to make him lose his concentration. He focused on getting ready to toss the first ring.
“Seriously, there’s like an art to this-”
Clink. Monty tossed the ring gracefully over the center bottle.
“Damn, never mind, you have this handled. Color me impressed.”
Monty gave Miller a smug look before turning back to the game. He easily sunk another ring onto the bottle. Then another. Monty looked up at the man behind the counter.
“If you get the last ring on there, the bear is yours. Otherwise, you can have your pick of the smaller ones to my left.”
“Nah, I think I can get this last one on there,” Monty said confidently. He was about to throw the ring when someone bumped into him from the side and knocked the ring out of his hand. The ring flew forward, hitting the bottle in front and falling onto the ground.
“That’s too bad. Like I said, you can have your pick of the stuffed animals to my left,” the guy behind the counter pointed.
“But the ring got knocked out of my hand!” Monty complained.
“Sorry, rules are rules.”
“Hey, that’s not fair! He deserves another shot at it,” Miller exclaimed.
“It’s no big deal,” Monty sighed, picking out a small stuffed flamingo, his sister’s favorite animal. There was no point in making a fuss.
“Yeah, it is, you were totally going to win that bear!”
“It’s just a bear, Miller.”
“Yeah, but you wanted to win it, remember?”
“Look, you can try again, but you’ll have to pay again,” the man behind the counter explained monotonously. “I’m sorry, this isn’t my business. I just work here.”
“Fine, Monty, play again.”
“I don’t have enough money,” Monty stated.
“I’ll pay,” Miller volunteered, handing the guy some cash. “Okay, now play.”
Monty looked at Miller incredulously before grabbing the rings. Monty told himself he wasn’t trying to impress Miller as he carefully tossing each one onto the bottle. He sunk one, two, three, and-
“Wait!” Miller yelled.
Monty turned around, “What?”
“Umm, nothing, never mind, go.”
Monty gave Miller a funny look before turning around and throwing the last ring onto the bottle effortlessly. The man behind the counter pulled the bear off of its stand and handed it to him. Monty awkwardly held the bear as he turned around. He peeked around the bear to see Miller standing there with a huge grin on his face. Monty felt heat rising to his cheeks.
“What?” Monty asked, annoyed that a smile could make him blush so easily.
Miller’s grin slipped a little. “Nothing, that was just really cool. I’ve never seen anyone do that before.”
“Oh, thanks,” Monty felt a little bad for being so snarky. Even if Miller had been kind of a jerk all day, he had also paid for the second game. “Can you hold the bear real quick?”
“Oh, yeah, sure,” Miller grabbed the bear from Monty just a couple of girls walked past.
“Aww,” one squealed. “That’s so cute!”
“You guys are such a cute couple,” the other one joined in. “That’s so nice of you to get your boyfriend a teddy bear. My girlfriend refuses to play these games.”
“I don’t know how to play these games,” the first girl grumbled.
“Oh, um, we-” Monty started.
“Yeah, he is a pretty great boyfriend,” Miller grinned, leaning over and kissing Monty gently. Monty stood rooted to the spot. Miller grabbed Monty’s hand and started pulling him away “Anyway, we’ve got to go find our friends, seeya!”
The girls waved goodbye. Monty waited until he was sure the girls could no longer see them before pulling his hand roughly out of Miller’s. “What the heck was that?”
“What? They thought we were dating, I didn’t feel like disappointing them.”
“You can’t just kiss people whenever you feel like it!” This wasn’t fair to him, Monty argued internally. Miller could walk away from this, but Monty and his ridiculous crush was going to be thinking about this kiss forever.
“Sorry, it just seemed like the right thing to do. I mean, it’s what I would’ve done if you were my real boyfriend and had just won me a teddy bear.”
“But I’m not your boyfriend.”
Miller took a huge breath and then replied, “But I want you to be.”
“What?” Monty asked, his pulse racing.
“Actually, I’ve been trying to ask you all day. If you wanted to go out with me. But every time I got all nervous and said something else instead. But I’m asking you now. Do you want to go out with me?”
Monty looked up at Miller’s face. Miller was attempting to smile, although there was more nervousness on his face than anything else. This was not what he’d been expecting at all. “Umm?”
Miller’s face dropped. “Okay, yeah, I get it. Let’s go back.”
“Wait, no, yes. Yes, I want to go out with you.”
“Really?” Miller’s face brightened, his eyes gleaming a little.
my fic thing for minty fic week (sshhhhh there’s 6 minutes left until the day is over i made it)
prompt: free spot, whatever you want. i wrote a zombie au because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
literally 1 word above 15k. (ao3).
It was like something from a dream Monty had once, a dream that had been called civilization before the world ended. People were running around, carrying clothes, weapons, foods, buckets full of items that Monty couldn’t see, and everywhere there were shoddy, makeshift buildings, if they could even be called that.
Of all the places Monty had been in an apocalypse, the Ark was by far the coolest.
Raven is hosting a pool party after she made her own BBQ and wanted to use it and basically Monty and Miller realise how in love with each other they are. (I hope everyone enjoys this, let me know what you think!)
It’s a nice summer day and everyone is relaxing at Raven, Clarke and Octavia’s house for a pool party and barbecue, everyone except for Monty and Miller.
“Nate! Don’t forget the dip!”
Rushing out of the kitchen into the hallway, Miller grumbled back to Monty who was still in their room, “yes I’ve got the dip, I just put it in the esky. Can you believe how hot it is? I can’t even wear my beanie!”
Calling out from their room Monty replied, “you need to let it go sometimes, you’ll live.”
Chuckling to himself, Miller was checking that they had everything when Monty walked out wearing a singlet and a snapback facing backwards over his shock of black hair.
“Looking good Green,” Miller quips as he leers teasingly at his partner.
“Not so bad yourself Miller,” Monty grins as he grabs the bags then continues, “Now c’mon, we’re nearly half an hour late.”
“Monty, we live a good five minutes drive away from their house.”
“We’re still half an hour late!”
With Monty ushering him out of the door to the car, Miller smiled fondly as his whirlwind of a boyfriend rushed around putting the bags and esky in the car and after they were finally belted in, Miller put the car in drive and pulled out of the driveway and drove towards the party.
Walking through the back gate, Miller set their belongings down under the patio, pulled off his shirt, and proceeded to jump in the pool joining Maya, Bellamy, Lincoln, Murphy and Monroe, while Monty goes to stand with Jasper, Clarke, Octavia, Raven and Harper.
“Just look at those curls,” Clarke sighed as she sipped her beer, “I love those curls, they’re so nice to play with.”
Octavia pretended to gag, “Clarke, that is my brother, I really don’t need to know how much you love his curls.”
Clarke snorted, “Oh please, we always sit here and listen to you going on about Lincoln.”
“Well yeah, but Lincoln isn’t anyone’s sibling.”
Clarke nodded in acknowledgment, “That’s true,” and turning to nudge Harper with her elbow she winked, “How are you and Monroe doing?”
Jumping slightly, Harper’s eyes widened, “Me and Monroe? Good. Mmhmm, we’re good.”
Monty frowned, “Harp are you okay? You’re acting weird.”
Glancing at Monroe in the pool who was trying to dunk Murphy, she drew everyone in closer and pulled Jasper so he was listening instead of watching Maya, “What I’m about to tell you is a secret, so when we both tell you all, you have to act surprised.”
After everyone nodded Harper continued softly, “We’re moving in together.”
“Harper that’s great!” Raven exclaimed as quietly as she could.
“And we’re getting a dog.”
“Oh my god,” Jaspers face lit up, “Can I baby sit? How old will the dog be? Can I name him? Or is it a she? What breed are they?”
“Jas,” Octavia said wearily
“Yeah Octavia?”
“Shut up.”
“Noted.”
As Raven pulled Jasper, Harper and Octavia away to look at the new BBQ that she’d made for the occasion, Clarke and Monty sat on the deck chairs and watched their boyfriends as they played pool volleyball.
“So how are you and Miller?”
Monty watched as Miller did an impressive spike as he answered, “Nate and I are good, really good actually,” and thinking for a moment, he paused before continuing, “It’s weird.”
Clarke looked at him with her oversized sunglasses perched on her nose, “What’s weird?”
Monty smiled, “That everything is amazing. Like sure, we argue over little stuff from time to time, but we don’t make the same mistake twice and it makes us stronger ya know?”
Nodding in understanding, Clarke smiled and answered, “As long as you’re both happy, even though I’ve known Miller since we were in grade one, you’re still one of my best friends too okay?”
As a shadow passed across Monty’s face, he looked up to see Miller sauntering over towards him, still wet from the pool. Almost as if he knew what Miller was going to do, Monty’s eyes widened, “Nate, Nate don’t,” he said warningly, “Nathan Miller don’t you dare-,” before Miller plopped himself down on top of Monty and pulled the snapback off of his head.
“Thanks,” Monty said dryly, “Now I’m all wet.”
Miller grinned, “That was the plan.”
Arching his neck up, Monty kissed his boyfriend on the lips before reclining back on the deck chair with his hands behind his head, “You’re lucky you’re cute, it makes it too hard for me to be mad at you.”
“Damn right I’m cute,” and as he put all his body weight onto Monty who tucked his chin on Millers head, Monroe walked past holding her phone, “Say cheese!” and promptly took a photo of the two cuddling without waiting for them to pose.
“Monroe why,” Monty groaned as he tightened his grip around Miller.
“Because not only are you two super cute individuals, you’re a super cute couple, and that needs to be documented.”
“I hate you.”
Grinning as she walked away, she called out, “No you don’t!”
Rolling his eyes, Monty tilted his head back as the sun bathed him and Miller in light. Stroking Millers back with his thumbs, Monty reflected on the past four years with him, and looking at Miller, seeing him lit up and practically glowing from the sun as he dozed on Monty, made him smile at how much his life had improved since he realised that he loved him.
“Nate,” he said softly.
“Yeeah T?”
“You know I love you right?”
Propping up on his elbows so he could see Monty’s face, Miller replied, “Yeah I know. I love you too. A lot.”
Frowning slightly he asked, “T, what’s this about?”
Lowering his voice even more he looked directly into Millers eyes, “Marry me.”
Miller’s eyes widened and his face went slack for a moment before replying, “Is this real?”
“This is real. I was just looking at you and thinking about the past, and I love you so much I just decided we should get married.”
As he started nodding, Miller lent down to kiss Monty slower and deeper and after a moment, they broke apart, “So will you marry me?”
Staring down at Monty Green, the person who has been there for all his happy moments and sad moments, Miller let a smile envelop is face and as he lent down again to kiss him once more, he whispered against Monty’s lips.
I know I’m super late with this and I skipped a prompt, but it’s been a busy week + writer’s block.
“Come on, Miller, aren’t you even a little bit excited about graduating?” Clarke asked from beside him.
Miller’s eyes paused on a particular someone before he turned back to Clarke. “No. Everything is so…unsure now. Like I don’t know what I want to do. I know where I’m living, but not for how long. And I have an internship, but what if it doesn’t go well for me and then I can’t find a job? Or what if I get a job and I hate it? It’s easy for you, you’re going to be a doctor, you’ve gotten into med school and you’re ready to go. You always have been. You don’t even seem a little bit nervous. But I always thought I wanted to be a cop and now that I know I don’t, it’s kind of all up in the air. So, yeah, I’m not enjoying this whole graduation thing.”
“But, like, you’re done with college now. It’s four years of horrible professors and too much drinking and not enough fun time and now that’s done.”
“Clarke, you don’t get it. I can handle college. It’s not stress-free, but it’s safe. And I’m not going to have this net anymore. And not to mention I have to start doing adult things now, like paying my own bills and doing taxes. I was lucky enough to have my dad for all of that through college, but I’m on my own now.”
“Yeah,” Clarke replied nodding. “I guess that is a bit scary.”
“What’s scary?” Monty asked, sitting down next to Miller. “Actually I know the answer to that. It’s that the two of you are sitting here, at the biggest party I’ve ever thrown, and yet neither of you are even the slightest bit drunk.”
“You aren’t drunk either,” Clarke pointed out.
“Yeah, but it’s my party. As the host, I need to make sure everyone else is having fun.”
“Isn’t this Jasper’s party too? Shouldn’t he be helping?” Miller asked, frowning.
Monty rolled his eyes. “He’s already wasted, no point in asking him to do anything.”
“That’s not fair.”
“Yeah, well, it’s Jasper.”
“Do you need me to help?” Miller asked.
“No, I’ve got it covered.”
“Are you sure? Because I kind of feel like a terrible boyfriend for sitting here and complaining about graduation while you’re going around making sure everything is going okay.”
Monty pecked Miller on the cheek. “You are the best boyfriend-”
“Monty! There’s no more moonshine at the table!” someone yelled.
“And, duty calls, I’ll see you two later.”
Later turned out to be after the party was over, most everyone had gone home.
“I’m going to head out, Monty,” Clarke whispered. “Got some errands to run tomorrow, but I’ll see you at graduation, okay?”
“Okay!” Monty gave Clarke one of his world-famous hugs before turning back to his task at hand: cleaning up.
Miller had already grabbed a couple trash bags and was putting cups and plates into it. Monty grinned at him before clearing the main table, sticking things in the dishwasher. Monty was really glad that Miller was helping, because it only took them about twenty minutes.
“Hey, thanks for sticking around and helping out,” Monty said, sitting down next to Miller on the couch.
“You do not have to thank me for helping you clean,” Miller replied, resting his head on Monty’s shoulder.
“I know, but I’m not used to having someone help me.”
“Yeah, you should really talk to Jasper about that.”
“It doesn’t matter. After graduation, we’re not living together anymore. It’s going to be you and me, in our own little apartment, trying to be adults.”
“Don’t remind me.”
“What, you don’t want to live with me anymore?” Monty teased.
Miller groaned, turning in towards Monty so that his face rested against Monty’s neck. “I’m not ready to be done with college.”
Monty wrapped his arms around Miller. “It’s going to be okay, Nate.”
“What if it’s not, though? What if I never find a job? Would you be okay with me being a househusband? Wait, shit, I mean house-boyfriend. Whatever, point is, what if I fail at being an adult?”
Monty laughed. “Being a househusband does not mean you’ve failed at being an adult. I know, I know what you mean. You don’t want to stay at home all day. But you’re going to be okay. You are going to find a job, Nate. You’re going to be the best at whatever it is you decide to do. I promise.”
“How are you so sure?”
Monty half-shrugged, “I just am. I believe in you.”
Okay first I apologise, I know I am way too late for this, but I have skipped one date and I thought at least I’d get this one up. Also this got so incredibly cheesy in the end it is the cheesyest cheese in the world so I apologise again for the sappiness!!
Nathan Miller was not easily scared.
He was a strong and confident person. If he was scared or nervous about something he liked to address the problem because he really didn’t like feeling threatened or nervous or scared. He talked to the people trying to intimidate him (although the number of the people who wanted to scare Nathan Miller were rather small), and if something made him uneasy he thought about what scared him and he changed the situation.
But that morning, Nathan Miller woke up with a overwhelming sense of dread. For a moment he actually didn’t know why, too groggy still from sleep to conceive what day it was. But then realisation came crashing over him and he pulled the sheets back over his head and tried to push the nagging thoughts away until his father knocked on his bedroom door.
“Nate, you awake?”, he asked, “come on, get up, it’s your GRADUATION !”
Miller groaned quietly. He checked his phone. He had several messages waiting for him, all with excited emoji and a lot of exclamation marks. He clicked on Monty’s: ‘oh my god Nate today’s the day, the beginning of our new lives!!!!! I’m so excited, I’ll see you later! xxxx’ He felt a warm feeling spread in his chest as he read his boyfriend’s words and felt a bit more at ease.
He got up, showered and got dressed. When he finally stepped into the kitchen his father was already waiting for him. “Look who decided to drop by”, David Miller greeted his son with a broad smile.
“Hey Man, you all set?”, Murphy came seemingly out of nowhere as he threw one arm around Miller. “Yeah, you?”, Miller forced a smile.
“Best day of my frickin life”, Murphy beamed.
They left the house about an hour later, driving to school one last time in David Miller’s pick up truck. The school was a bustle of excited parents and students in red regalia. When they arrived at the main building their friends were already waiting for them. Miller approached and saw Monty, currently giggling at something Clarke hat said, looking unbearably cute in his outfit, the graduation cap sitting a little askew on his black mop of hair.
He met Miller’s eyes and smiled that special smile that he only ever gave his boyfriend and that made Miller’s heart flutter and stepped out of the circle and towards him.
“Hey”, he greeted, quietly as he took in Miller’s appearance.
“Hey”, Miller retorted and Monty was already reaching out for him to tug him closer by his tie. They kissed, long and slowly until Murphy made retching noises behind them. Pulling back, their lips only inches away he was met with Monty’s intense stare searching his face.
“Are you okay?”, he asked, his eyes searching his. Miller smiled, “yeah, of course! It’s our graduation, can you believe it?”. Monty smiled too and precked him on the lips. Then he pulled away completely and tugged his hand towards the group.
“Well are we getting smashed tonight or what?”, was the first thing Murphy stated. The others rolled their eyes but grinned excitedly, they most definitely were going to get smashed tonight.
The ceremony was relatively short, Miller had heard from Bellamy that when he graduated the speeches lasted for almost three hours and Bellamy almost starved to death because he didn’t have any breakfast. Bellamy was now sitting in the audience, next to Miller’s dad and Clarke’s mother, all three visibly glowing with pride.
Clarke got up on the stage for her Valedictorian-speech and she shot her boyfriend a short grin when he stood up and wolf whistled loudly. The speech was touching, remembering all the stages of high school they had went through and Miller felt his throat grow dry.
Monty beside him smiled up at his friend while squeezing his hand tightly. He met Miller’s gaze every once in a while, who seemed unable to take is eyes off the younger boy. What if he’d be freaked out when he told them. What if he wouldn’t like it, or felt too pressured? He was unable to shut off the nervous voice in the back of his mind, starting to doubt if this really was a good idea.
When it was time for collecting their degrees Miller could feel his hands grow sweaty and his mouth was suddenly dry as sandpaper. How would he react? The thoughts were swirling through his head as his friends stepped forward to collect their degrees, everybody clapping and cheering.
Monty stepped up, receiving the certificate and stating his next step in life: “Stanford University, California – Computer Science”. Miller’s heart was racing in his chest. What he was about to say he hadn’t told anybody. Not even his father knew, who was smiling so proudly in the audience, waiting to hear the words “Springfield University, Illinois – Baseball Scholarship”.
Monty returned to his seat, beaming at Miller on his way back. Next up was Clarke. She accepted her degree with a smile and a wink in Bellamy’s direction. Then Miller’s name was called out and for once it didn’t annoy him to head somebody beside Monty or his Dad call out his first name.
He stood up and stepped forward. He didn’t really fully realise he had taken the certificate and shaken Principal Kane’s hand until he was met by a sea of expectant eyes looking up at him.
“California State University Fullerton – Baseball Scholarship”. He heard clapping and cheering, but all he could see was his dad’s confused face. Turning around he met Monty’s gaze and he was pretty sure he saw tears in his boyfriend’s eyes.
He was about to return to his seat when the other boy crossed the stage and kissed him, right there in front of everybody. The teacher at the mike cleared her throat awkwardly, “well.. um.. it seems somebody is happy about that choice”, she tried to explain the situation.
“I love you”, Monty breathed against his lips so that only Miller could her it and when he looked into his boyfriend’s eyes he knew it had been the right decision.
“I can’t believe you actually changed University to be closer to your boyfriend”, Murphy stated when they met after the ceremony, having all received their certificate and thrown up their stupid caps, laughing, clapping, cheering, some even crying. “That was literally the sappiest thing you have ever done my friend”, but he clapped a hand on Miller’s shoulder, grinning.
“Shut up Murphy, it was romantic”, Octavia emphasised, wrapping up Monty in a hug. “You just couldn’t stand being away from him couldn’t you”, Harper teased.
Miller shrugged, “long distance is really difficult, and I mean, we’re still like five hours apart..”
Monty linked his fingers with his, “five hours is better than thirty hours”, he murmured and everybody smiled. Miller froze when he saw his father approach the group, nervous how he had taken the news.
His heart sank when he saw the grave look on him but then a wide smile spread across David Miller’s face and his eyes twinkled.
“I am very happy for you”, he said and Miller sighed in relief. “Monty I hope you know what you have in my son”, he clapped both of them on the shoulders.
“I most certainly do Sir”, Monty grinned up at Milelr. “I think it’s time to call me David”, Miller’s dad offered and Miller felt giddy with happiness and relief that he couldn’t find the right words, so he hugged his dad tightly. “Thanks Dad”, he murmured and David Miller squeezed him back.
“Well, I guess that’s settled then”, Murphy said after the Sargent had left, “now let’s get fucking wasted”.
They drove to their favourite spot in the woods in Bellamy’s truck and Clarke’s Camaro. They arrived and jumped out immediately starting to put up a new fire at the cold fireplace. Miller was about to follow them when Monty held him back.
“Nate I…”, he started, “I have no idea what to say…” Miller smiled and pulled him close, pressing a kiss on the top of his head. Monty wrapped his arms around him.
“Are you sure about this?”, he mumbled, his face buried in Miller’s neck, “I mean, it’s college, what if we break up and you would have changed college for nothing and…”. He was rambling, so miller intercepted, holding him by his shoulders and pushing him back so he could look him in the eye.
“Monty relax”, he told him, “the course at Fullerton is just as good at it would have been at Springfield, it’s going to be great. And besides, I’m not saying it wouldn’t happen, but I’m not planning on breaking up with you very soon, or at all, for that matter”. Monty beamed and leaned up to kiss him.
“You are amazing”, he mumbled against his lips. “I know…”, Miller grinned back. They kissed slowly. When Monty pulled back and started to head after the others Miller called after him, “hey.” Monty turned around.
“I love you too, you know”, he explained, answering to what Monty had said on the stage. For a second Monty’s smile was the only thing Miller could see and the next second he was back, crashing his lips against his, pushing him back against the car.
This kiss was something very different entirely, and Miller tugged his boyfriend closer by the waist, moving his hips and evoking a sharp gasp from Monty. He fumbled around behind his back until he found the handle and quickly opened the door, stumbling backwards onto the backseat, Monty following, already pulling off his shirt.
He straddled his hips with his while impatiently pushing up Miller’s shirt, kissing a trail up Miller’s abdomen and chest that burnt on his skin. Next thing Monty’s lips were back on his, his pushing playing against his and Miller was just reaching for Monty’s belt when he heard Clarke’s voice: “Ew, NO, not in my car”. Miller let out a frustrated groan when Monty reluctantly pulled back.
“Clarke you’re supposed to be a supportive friend”, he complained.
“There are limits”, Clarke retorted, unfazed, “besides, it’s our last night together, you have plenty of time for that later, come on”. She disappeared back into the woods and Monty looked back down at him, “you know she’s right”, he smiled, “we can see each other so much more often now”.
Miller smiled back, “man and I was so looking forward to all the video-sex”, he joked.
“Aw well you know”, Monty lowered himself down into him, his hot skin brushing ever so lightly against Miller’s chest, “we can always do that anyway”.
A mischievous smile played on his lips as he kissed him once more, excruciatingly slow, all tongue and teeth and Miller thought he would dissolve right there on the spot.
“Jesus Monty”, he panted out with a ragged breath. Monty grinned, his teeth catching his lower lip.
“Tell me again what you just told me”, he demanded and in that moment he knew he was completely and utterly beyond return.
“I…”, he sucked in a breath when he felt Monty’s hand wander down his abdomen, “I’m looking forward to having video-sex with you?”, he replied, as confused as he could be in his current state.
Monty huffed out a laugh, his breath ghosting over his neck, “no you idiot, before that”.
“That I love you?”, Miller felt that thinking was incredibly hard. Monty nodded, grinning widely.
“I love you Monty”, he said, honestly, and Monty kissed him again, “I love you”, another kiss, “so”, kiss, “much”. If this there was a heaven, Miller knew, it would be nothing compared to this.
Finally, Monty pulled back, Miller emitting another reluctant moan.
“Come on, we should head back”, Monty said, sitting up, running his hand through his hair and searching for his t-shirt, his hips still holding Miller down.
“Yeah, just… we have to wait a minute”, Miller sat up too, gesturing towards his middle and Monty grinned like an evil troll, obviously very pleased with himself, “or two…”, Miller finished.
Obviously they got smashed.
Monty and Jasper had brought Moonshine, Bellamy and Murphy beer, Harper and Monroe had baked some brownies and Octavia and Clarke had brought food for the predicable hunger.
Everything was perfect. Monty was leaning against Miller, who had both arms wrapped around his boyfriend, drinking in his scent until Murphy pointed out he should stop smelling him since it was creepy and Monty not a steak.
They decided to head back when the dark started to dissipate and the sky above the trees grew faintly lighter. Lincoln collected them at four thirty and dropped them off in front of the school, where they stood for a moment, just taking in the view of the building that had become such a great part of their lives.
The sky was of a purple shaded grey when the climbed over the fence and ran towards the football pitch. When they climbed up the stands it was already turning pastel colours, pink, orange, gold and colours that they didn’t even have names for.
Everything was quiet when they stood up on the highest rank, looking over the back across the school grounds, at a part of their lives that was now over. Monty was squeezing Miller’s hand tightly and even though he didn’t look at him he felt his smile.
They stood there until the sun appeared over the trees, flooding the grounds and turning the morning mist into golden vapour above the grass, drinking in the sunlight like nectar and squinting into the light that washed over their faces. Nobody said a word.
Miller would never forget this moment.
In a some years time he would bring Monty back here to kiss him and pull out a simple, golden ring from his back pocket, holding it up against the sunlight. Monty would make a Lord of the Rings remark and laugh and kiss him breathless.
It’s nearly the end of summer, and Miller is stuck in a hot car being driven by Clarke who is arguably the worst driver in existence. The only saving grace, is that Monty is sitting next him holding his hand even though he laughs at him every time Clarke turns a corner and Miller winces.
The reason he, Monty, Raven and Bellamy are suffering through Clarkes terrible driving, is because she and Maya organised a whole day trip to an Amusement park to celebrate the last few weeks of summer before they have to start classes again.
Arriving at the park, Miller could not get out of the car quick enough would’ve nearly fallen on his face as he toppled ungracefully out of the car if Monty hadn’t been there to catch him.
“Aye, good thing lover boy’s there to catch you Miller, that could’ve been embarrassing!” Murphy called from near the entrance.
“Don’t be a wimp Miller, my driving wasn’t that bad,” Clarke laughed and patted his shoulder as she walked past with Bellamy and Raven.
“She is the she-devil, we are not driving back with her okay Monty?” he said firmly as he grabbed Monty’s hand and followed them to meet up with their other friends by the entrance.
“Yeah yeah, don’t be a baby Nate, you gotta live a little.”
“That is exactly what I am trying to do by not getting in a car with Clarke again.”
Coming to stand with Harper and Monroe, Jasper and Maya, Murphy, and Lincoln and Octavia, they all exchange hugs as though they hadn’t all seen each other the previous day. After they all went and paid, they decided to split into couples and to wander around but meet back up for lunch in two hours.
“Where should we go first?” Miller asked Monty, looking around at the park in anticipation, “Bumper cars?”
Grabbing onto Millers hand Monty grinned, “Bumper cars sounds great! And then we can go get fairy floss, and go on the Ferris wheel!”
Searching the park for the bumper cars wasn’t as easy as they thought, every now and again they came across some of their friends, Harper and Monroe were playing on the Clowns, Clarke and Bellamy were sharing a plate of curly fries and by the time they found the bumper cars, Murphy and Raven were having an intense match against every other person on the track.
After their sojourn on the bumper cars in which they fully decimated Raven and Murphy, they walked hand in hand to go buy some fairy floss and sat on a grassy hill basking in the sunlight.
Every now and then, they would look at one another and smile lazily, both thinking about how lucky they were to have each other when Monty stared at Miller, not even looking away when the beanie clad boy looked back at him in suspicion.
“What?” he asked, “Is there something on my face?”
Monty shook his head, “Nate?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
Miller looked at Monty as a smile lit up his face, “Really?”
“Yeah, yeah I do,” Monty nodded with renewed confidence.
“Fuck yes!” and Miller lifted his hand for a high five, and after receiving one, he pulled Monty into a hug, not noticing his disgruntled face, “You’re too cute,” Miller says happily.
“Yeah, sure,” Monty replied monotonously.
.
.
.
After finishing off their fairy floss, Monty had become increasingly quiet and Miller had no clue what was wrong.
“T? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Miller frowned, confused, “You sure? You’re being really quiet?”
“I’m fine, lets just go do something okay?”
“Well if you’re sure?” Miller was confused but grabbed Monty’s hand nonetheless.
Walking past the games to get to the rides, Miller noticed a huge rainbow stuffed Gorilla and pointed it out to Monty.
“You want it?”
Monty looked at the Gorilla and shrugged, “I guess, if you want.”
Miller for the life of him could not imagine what the matter with Monty was, but he kissed him on the cheek and said with determination, “I’ll win it for you.”
As he stepped up and aimed the gun and promptly shot down all the tins, he turned back to Monty as he grinned and threw his thumbs up while his boyfriend tried hard not to smile.
After winning the gorilla, Miller made it his mission to win Monty as many prizes as he could which eventuated in Monty carrying around about eight or so stuffed animals while still acting like a grump.
Miller had given up trying to figure out why Monty was mad and not talking to him, so he tried to make the rest of the day as happy as he could possibly be and three hours later had not succeeded so he suggested the go on the Ferris Wheel.
Lining up in the Ferris wheel line, he noticed they were behind Raven and Murphy, who turned around after Miller flicked Murphy on the back of the head.
“Yo Miller! Hey Monty, why the long face?” Murphy asked, frowning at Monty’s frown who just shook his head and replied with a muttered, “nothing.”
“What happened today bro?” Murphy asked Miller quietly, “He was fine earlier, even on the bumper cars he was fine, what changed?”
Miller shrugged, his expression confused, “I don’t know why he’s upset, I mean, I’m on, or I was on cloud nine earlier,” and smiled as he continued, “He told me he loved me today.”
“He what?!”
“Yeah!” Miller glanced at Monty who was deep in conversation with Raven about chemical engineering in relation to botany, “We were eating fairy floss and he told me that he loves me!”
Murphy stared at Miller for a second before asking, “and you said it back right?”
Miller’s eyes grew wide and looked at Murphy in panic, “No?” he said hesitantly.
Murphy slapped Miller over the head, “The fuck Miller? Nearly every week you bore me to death while you harp on and on about how much you love Monty and when he finally says it to you, you don’t say it back? Really?”
“I don’t know, I was just so happy!”
Murphy groaned, “Well what did you do instead?”
Miller grimaced, “I may have said ‘fuck yes,’ high fived him, then given him a hug?”
“You didn’t, please tell me that’s a joke.”
“No?”
Once again, Murphy hit him on the head, “Here’s what’s going to happen dumbass, Raven and I are going to let you and your poor nerd on by yourself, and you’re going to fucking tell him that you love him back and fix your goddamn mess. Got it?”
Miller nodded, “Listen, thanks man-,” but Murphy cut him off just as Monty and Miller were about to walk through the barrier, “Don’t thank me yet, fix his broken puppy face, and then thank me.”
.
.
.
.
Sitting across from Monty in the Ferris Wheel cart, Miller racked his brains as he tried to find an opening sentence but then sighed and settled for, “I’m sorry.”
Monty looked up sharply, “What?”
“I said I’m sorry, for not saying it back.”
Monty shrugged stiffly, “It’s fine, and I can’t pressure you into what you don’t feel.”
“But I do feel it, I do love you T.”
Monty smiled wryly and shook his head, “you’re just saying that because you’ve figured out why I’m upset.”
Miller sighed internally, “Monty, I’m not lying, I swear to fucking God that I love you.” He said urgently as he tried to put his point across.
Monty looked at him cautiously, “You do? Why didn’t you say it back earlier?”
“I was too excited, I got so caught up in the fact that you actually loved me that I sort of forgot that I didn’t say it back to you out loud.”
Monty rolled his eyes and grinned, “You’re a fucking idiot, you know that right?”
“I’m the idiot?” Miller laughed, “as if you thought I didn’t love you! Seems to me you’re the idiot in this equation.”
“Oh of course,” and moving over to Millers seat, Monty sat next to him and held his hand as they looked out over the skyline, “I’m glad you love me Nate.”
“Me too T, me too.”
Unfortunately, the cart below them ruined the moment, when Murphy decided to call up to them, “OI MONTY, DID THE IDIOT PULL HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS AND CONFESS HIS PROFOUND LOVE FOR YOU YET?”
“SIT DOWN MURPHY!”
“RAVEN SHUT UP, IM TRYING TO TALK TO MONTY!”
Monty looked at Miller and laughed as he rolled his eyes and tuned out Raven and Murphy, “Why do we have such annoying friends?”
Miller grinned, “Bad life choices.”
“Am I one of the bad choices?”
Miller turned his head to face Monty and looked at him and smiled, “Nah, you’re the best.”
Miller is graduating from the Police Academy, but he and Monty are both shocked when his estranged father comes to support him.
This is actually kinda crap but oh well, my brain wasn’t working like it normally does, sorry!
Today was the day Miller graduated from Police Academy and Monty could not be prouder. Driving to the Academy with Murphy and Miller had been an unusually quiet affair, the two police officers-to-be were normally more boisterous and amusing to be around, however with pre-graduation nerves setting in, the two best friends were silent as Monty drove and fiddled around with the radio.
Getting to the venue with only two minutes to spare, Monty pulled Miller aside and fixed his tie. Smiling, Miller pressed a quick kiss to Monty’s lips and said, “Wish me luck!”
Monty looked up at him and cheekily grinned, “Good luck thief boy, go out there and steal my heart alright?” to which Miller just rolled his eyes and pecked Monty on the cheek as Murphy groaned, “Ugh, you guys make me sick.”
“Oh shut up Murphy, you love us.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever, c’mon Miller we need to go.”
As the two went backstage to join the rest of their graduating class, Monty waved and said good luck one last time before going to find his seat.
His seat was luckily reserved next to Clarke, who was also sitting next to Octavia who were both there for Bellamy. She turned to him and asked, “How’s Millers nerves?”
Monty shrugged, “Alright I’m guessing, neither he or Murphy said a word on the way here, they were so quiet it was weird.”
“Same with Bellamy and Wells, even when Octavia and I tried to get them to interact it didn’t work. Although, Wells could just be missing Fox.”
“Yeah, I was wondering where she was?”
Clarke grinned, “She’s in Australia, for University. Crazy huh?”
“Seriously,” and turning his head to see the empty seat next to him, he frowned as he saw the reserved sign resting on it.
“Clarke,” he asked getting her attention, “Why does this seat say ‘Reserved for Miller’?”
Clarke’s head looked over past Monty and saw the sign and looked confused, “Why would Miller be sitting down here? That doesn’t make sense, Octavia, is Bellamy sitting down here with us too?” she asked, directing the end of her question to the brunette.
“No? Why would he? They sit up on stage don’t they?” Octavia answered while crinkling her nose in confusion.
“I’m not sure, Monty has a seat next to him saying it’s reserved for Miller.”
“What the fuck?” Octavia wondered, “That’s so weird.”
Just as Monty was about to reply, a man brushed passed him to sit down in the reserved seat, and as Monty got a good look at his face, his eyes widen and he stared at Clarke in shock who shrugged in bewilderment as she piped up, “Hey Chief Miller.”
Millers dad, Police Chief David Miller, who had kicked Nate out was now at his sons graduation looking as though he had no care in the world.
Clarke, whose Dad used to work with David and who had grown up with Nathan along with Wells, had known David since she was a child, but hadn’t seen him since he’d kicked Miller out, and Monty, who had met him on the night Miller was kicked out, were now unsure on how to approach the situation they were now in.
“Hello Clarke, Monty,” David replied, looking slightly nervous.
“What are you doing here?” Monty asked him with thinly veiled hostility.
His eyes downcast, Millers father answered, “I found out about the graduation at the station, I just needed to come, to see him graduate.”
Monty saw red, this man had thrown out Miller like he was trash and hadn’t made an effort to speak to him for nearly a year, and now he wanted to turn up like nothing had happened?
“I want you to know, Sir, that you should be really proud of Nate, he’s put himself through the academy all by himself, with no help from you. He trains hard and he studies hard, and he is going to be the best goddamn police officer in this district.”
Chief Miller started saying, “I know- -,” but Monty cut him off.
“No you don’t know, because you weren’t there for him, I was, and that’s the whole reason you kicked him out wasn’t it? Because of me?” Monty asked glaring at him.
But as Monty looked at Chief Miller, the older man had tears in his eyes, “Please,” he said, “Please forgive me for what I did, to you, to my son. I made a mistake, a terrible one and I’m here to fix that, please believe me Monty.”
Monty scrutinized him and nodded once, “I’ll let you talk to him, it’s not my forgiveness you need to ask for,” and as all the cadets walked across the stage to take their seats, Miller a part of them, Monty continued, “It’s his.”
Monty didn’t speak to Millers dad for the rest of the ceremony. When Bellamy, Wells and Murphy all walked across the stage as they graduated, Octavia, Clarke and Monty stayed in their seats clapping and whistling as they took photos, but when Miller walked across across the stage, grinning bashfully, Monty stood up and wolf whistled the loudest as his boyfriend accepted his award.
After the rest of the cadets had walked across the stage, the head of the Academy said a few words and then the ceremony was over.
As Miller jumped down off of the stage along with Bellamy, Murphy and Wells, Monty, Clarke and Octavia’s little group made their way to their friends, family and partners.
When they got there, the boys were grinning from ear to ear as they laughed and play tackled each other. Monty walked up behind Miller and snuck his arms around his waist and whispered in his ear, “Congratulations Officer.”
After Miller spun around, showed Monty his certificate and posed for a photo with him, he sneaked a kiss onto Monty’s cheek who turned to face him.
“I’m so proud of you Nate.”
Miller grinned and wrapped his arms around Monty’s neck, “Yeah? How proud?”
“Hella proud.”
Laughing, Miller kissed him again then said, “You’re a fucking nerd.”
Monty shrugged nonchalantly and then bit his lip, “Uh, Nate? Your dad’s here.”
Miller stopped laughing and stared at him, “What?”
Monty turned Millers head so he could see his Dad, and he felt his body tense up.
“Son,” Chief Miller started cautiously.
Miller, who grabbed Monty’s hand and laced their fingers together looked shocked as he replied, “Dad?”
Chief Miller took another step forward, “I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I love you and I am so so proud of you. I’m sorry,” and as his voice broke, he paused for a second before continuing, “I am so sorry for how I treated you, I made a mistake and now I’m here to fix it.”
Miller looked at Monty questioningly who nodded.
Letting go of Monty’s hand, Miller threw himself on his dad, squeezing him in a hug, “I missed you Dad,” he whispered.
“I missed you too son.”
Monty and Murphy looked at each other in surprise and Monty was pleased to see that Millers best friend wasn’t going to make a scene with Chief Miller, however, all the emotion was getting to him.
“Alright everyone, lets ease up a bit and I vote we all go for a drink.”
Octavia and Clarke both groaned as the two Millers broke apart from their reunion hug and Monty cuffed Murphy around the back of the head, “You’re an idiot Murphy, they were bonding! Just because you’re emotionally incapable of letting other people have emotions, you can’t just ruin father and son bonding times!”
“Oh uh, it’s okay, I need to get back to the station, Monty, Nathan, I’d like you both to come for dinner some time this week, if that’s okay with the both of you?”
Monty and Miller looked at each other and answered at the same time, “Sure dad,” “Of course Mr Miller.”
Chief Miller smiled and hugged Miller one last time and shook Montys hand and left.
Murphy sighed heavily, “Thank fucking God, can we go get our celebratory drink now?”
Octavia nodded and looked at Wells thoughtfully, “You know, Lincoln’s working at The Dropship today, maybe we should go there?”
“Lincoln?” Bellamy asked sharply, “You’re still seeing him?”
Clarke groaned, “Leave Lincoln and Octavia alone, don’t be a bully,” and speaking to Murphy she said, “We’ll take you in our car, I think the two lovebirds want some time alone.”
Flashing Clarke a grateful look, Miller confirmed, “Yeah, we’ll meet you guys there alright?” and as the five walked off, Murphy called out, “See you there! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!”
Shaking his head, Monty remarked, “Your friend is an idiot.”
“He’s your friend too.”
“Don’t remind me,” and moving closer to Miller he hugged him and whispered into his neck, “I’m really proud of you.”
Miller huffed bashfully and hugged Monty tighter, “No matter what happens I’ll always have you right?”
“You know you do.”
Kissing Monty on the forehead and resting his chin on Monty’s head he said, “I love you,” and pausing for a moment as he chuckled he continued, “Even though you’re a fucking nerd, I still love you.”
OKay this didn’t turn out the way I wanted it at all, this was the first time writing an omniscient narrator so this kinda blows a little, I apologise for the sucky writing but I have the feeling this wouldn’t get any better no matter how much I edit it (also I’ already one day late bc of finals) so here you go, have some pining and the group shipping Minty harder than us (jk, that’s not possible..)
The day was bright but calm, the waves rolling onto the shore with perpetual rhythm. The sun was smiling down onto the campsite, heating up the air, promising a perfect summer ahead.
The car park was situated in the countryside in perfect tranquillity, peaceful and quiet. That was, until two cars came roaring down the road, loud music blasting from the open windows, both exceeding the speed limit by at least 40, breaking the relative silence of a lazy summer afternoon.
One was a red truck, engine roaring like an angry animal, the other car was a slick black Mercedes that looked like it had cost an immense amout of money. The two vehicles came to halt on the empty car park, tires screeching and the noisy engine sighing with relief. A moment of silence, then the doors of the cars were wrenched open and a hoard of young adults jumped out, cheering and taking deep breaths of summer air after an almost four hour drive.
“Uh I can’t believe we made it”, Octavia groaned, rubbing her backside, “my ass hurts so much I can barely walk”. “Smooth”, Monty comments and Octavia kicked him playfully.
“This is going to be so rad”, Raven stated, grinning and everyone agreed. They had finally managed to organise their long planned camping trip and after a few complications they had actually made it to at their destination. Harper was jumping a up and down to have some feeling return to legs and Monty was stretching his arms above his head, groaning happily when his muscles answered.
They all watched amused when Miller swallowed hard and tried to look anywhere but the lean boy in front of him.
Monty’s crush on Miller had been an open secret to everyone but Miller himself since the first day the two had met each other but they had only learnt about Miller sharing those feelings when he had made the mistake of calling Monty “adorably hot” on a particularly moonshine-intoxicated night (luckily not in the presence of the other boy).
Up until then he had never shown an interest in the Monty (or so they thought) but when they finally found out they had collectively decided to do something about it, especially after watching with growing incredulity how the two men danced around each other with constant heart eyes and still both seemed to remain blatantly ignorant of the other’s interest.
The long-awaited camping trip seemed to arrive rather conveniently for that matter.
“Okay tent rules: No Sex, No Snoring, No going to bed without a shower”, Bellamy declared and everyone agreed. “Now, who goes with whom?” Clarke rolled her eyes at her boyfriend’s correct grammar and fondly wrapped her arms around him from behind. Raven and Wick had organised the tents, two four persons tent and one double.
“We’ll take the double”, Monroe piped up with a grin, linking her girlfriends hand and pulling her away towards the car. “No Sex”, Bellamy repeated with raised voice”, “we can hear everything”.
Monroe just rolled her eyes and Harper shot Monty an apologetic look. “Traitor”, the boy murmured to himself, watching his best friend take off.
“Come on Monty, I will sleep with you”, Octavia joked, obviously referring to their sleeping arrangements. Monty snorted, “yeah we’ll make up the single-tent”.
Octavia frowned at the mention of her current relationship status that she was not happy about at all, but her face quickly lifted when she suggested: “Miller is single”. She didn’t even try to hide her grin and it was quite impressive how she didn’t even flinch at the furious scowl Miller sent in her direction.
“No I didn’t…”, Monty began, panicked. “I’m already going in a tent with Bellamy and Clarke”, Miller hurried, blushing even more furiously. Both boys seemed utterly shell shocked at the thought of sleeping with in the same tent.
The others exchanged looks, weighing up the situation. Maybe forcing the two to sleep in the same tent was a bit much for pushing their friends together.
Bellamy sighed, “fine”, he relented, “if you really want to be in the same tent with us... If you haven’t noticed we are madly in love with each other”. He grinned down at Clarke who was cocking an eyebrow at Miller, who seemed unfazed. Shrugging, he replied: “I thought you said no sex”.
His relief was barely hidden and Monty too seemed to be able breathe again. “Well then I guess Wick and I will have to destroy your singles only policy”, Raven sighed, “that means you’ll have to sleep in a tent with Murphy Miller, I hope you know how cuddly he can get”. Miller snorted, “I do”, he replied drily and they went to setting up the tents.
“What the hell was that”, Octavia hissed at Monty as soon as they were out of earshot. Monty’s ears were bright red when he tried to act oblivious, “what do you mean”.
“Don’t do this Monty, you’ve been wanting to bone Miller for the last few years, why on earth would you turn down an opportunity to sleep in his next proximity?”
Monty groaned, “exactly Octavia, I’d constantly be in his personal space do you know how hard it is to act normal in Miller’s presence, do you?” Octavia shrugged. “Exactly”, Monty emphasized, “and I don’t want to bone him”.
“No, you want to hold hands with him and snuggle up with him and have meaningful conversations with him at 2am in the morning, that is even worse Monty!”, she accused.
Monty had turned a deep red and seemed very interested in the dusty ground they were treading. “Besides, you saw how he reacted, he quite obviously doesn’t want anything to do with me in that way”. Octavia rolled her eyes dramatically, but Monty didn’t see it.
The boy was probably the smartest kid she knew, but right now he was acting like the biggest idiot.
On the other end of the parking space Bellamy hit Miller on the back of his head. “OW”, Miller complained, “what the hell Bellamy”.
“You’re an idiot”, Bellamy stated. “What why? What did I do?”, Miller replied angrily, “you would have had to share the tent with somebody anyway”.
Bellamy let out an exasperated sigh, “not that you twat! Why didn’t you want to sleep with Monty”, he was of course referring to the sleeping arrangements, everybody knew how much Miller really did want to sleep with Monty. Miller didn’t answer, he just scowled at Bellamy.
“What is happening”, Murphy had finally managed to end his phone call with Emori, Bellamy had already been planning on stealing his phone and drowning it in the lake.
“Miller just missed the opportunity to share a tent with Monty”, Bellamy explained. “DUDE”, Murphy exclaimed, “are you serious? The fuck is wrong with you Miller”.
They wouldn’t have thought it possible, but Miller’s frown deepened even more. “I am not having his conversation with you two”, he decided and fled to unpack the cars instead.
“This is going to take a lot more work isn’t it”, Murphy asked, still watching his friend shuffle around and avoiding even looking into the direction of Monty.
Bellamy just nodded.
By the time they had set up the tents they were all soaked and sticky, the unforgiving sun burning down on them without mercy, making it almost impossible to move.
They thanked whatever gods responsible that they had found one of the last free spots on a campsite located directly by the sea. The second everything was set up they were already pulling off their clothes whilst running into the ocean, screeching and yelling, delighted when the cool water finally delivered them from the unbearable heat.
“I thought I would have to die in this heat”, Harper groaned happily when they finally came out of the water. Monty sighed contently, refreshed, the water running down his lean body and Octavia caught Miller staring at him with a dark fire in his eyes. She kicked him when she walked past him and he quickly turned back to the others.
This was seriously getting ridiculous. There was only so much pining a person could take.
They sprawled out onto the sand, drinking up the sun and finally feeling the last bit of stress draining out of them with every deep breath they took.
Monroe, Miller, Murphy and Clarke started to play a round of beach volleyball, while Monty and Bellamy were content reading the books they brought along. Harper was just lazing around in the sun, Raven and Wick were off god knows where and Octavia was currently busy watching the extremely hot and extremely tattooed lifeguard, appreciating the way his red trunks contrasted with his dark caramel skin and how his eyes would flick towards her every once in a while.
All in all it was a very good first day of vacation. Monty could be seen sneaking glances at Miller regularly, who’s grey tank top was sticking to his body, making it impossible for Monty to keep his eyes off the other guy.
One time the ball rolled right in front of Monty who was leaning against Harper and before he could reach for it Miller was already there, locking eyes with Monty when he leant down to take it, the ball momentarily forgotten in his hands. Octavia scoffed audibly and Miller quickly returned to the game.
When he finally got rid of his top that was soaked with sweat (who played beach volleyball in a top anyway, it was almost painful for Octavia to see Monty ogling Miller’s bare glistening torso and she could feel herself snap.
“Oh come on Monty get your shit together”, she hissed at her friend who at least had the decency to look a little bit ashamed and buried his nose back in his book.
“I am serious”, Octavia continued, “if you two don’t make out by the end of this week I swear to god I will strangle someone”.
“He is not into me like that Octavia”, Monty tried to tell her again, but she scoffed, “oh please!”
When her friend just looked at her petulantly, she threw her hands in the air, “okay, okay I give up because you two are just ridiculous. We said we wouldn’t be this blunt but come on, even the greatest idiot could see what is going on between you two, open your fucking eyes Monty”.
Monty looked stunned at her sudden outbreak. He risked a glance at Miller who quickly averted his gaze from where he had been staring at him. For the first time Monty looked like he actually considered what Octavia said.
“When you say ‘you said you wouldn’t be this blunt’…”, he began and Octavia rolled her eyes.
“YES I have talked with the others about this, you two are so bloody obvious how could we not”. Monty paused, a mix of emotions on his face.
“Did you…”, he finally began, “did you talk to Miller too?”
Octavia sighed, “no, of course not, we’re not that bad friends. Monty looked relieved and after another short pause he turned back to his book. “What, you’re not going to do anything?”, Octavia asked incredulously. The boy just shrugged, not looking up.
“I can’t take this, I’m going for another swim”. She got up and left him, fuming in exasperation about those two.
“You know she’s right”, Harper piped in from behind Monty’s back. She couldn’t see his face but she could basically hear the wheels turning in his head, “you two are being incredibly thick.”
Monty didn’t answer and Harper, being the best friend that she was, didn’t push it any further.
That evening they set up a campfire and gathered around it, roasting their food, sausages and marshmallows afterwards.
Octavia had informed the rest of the group of her little outburst, telling them to lay low on the match making for the evening, so they were even more astounded when they noticed Monty and Miller suddenly sitting noticably closer to each other, their thighs and shoulders deliberately touching. They exchanged disbelieving glances but they chose not to say anything and to not ruin the moment.
It had grown completely dark, they’re faces only illuminated by the red light of the fire while they competed over who knew the best campfire story. Harper was snuggled up with Monroe, Clarke had her head in Bellamy’s lap and even Raven had stuck her feet under Wick’s back, claiming they were getting cold. Murphy was sulking ever since they had taken away his phone when he wouldn’t stop calling his girlfriend and Octavia had wondered off at some point, throwing Monty a wink while she went off looking for the lifeguard who had to be around somewhere.
You could basically see everyone wondering about what had happened between their two friends who were both glowing, not just from the fire, and occasionally exchanging a few words, silently.
When it got late and the conversation grew more and more personal their friends couldn’t believe their eyes at the sight of Monty leaning against Miller who was not so subtly burying his nose in the other boy’s hair, a small smile playing on his lips.
When they went to bed that night Harper pulled her friend aside and hissed at him, “what the fuck Monty!! When did this happen and how could you not tell me”, she seemed rightly upset and Monty didn’t make it better when he just smiled happily and shrugged.
“Nothing happened Harper”, he tried half-heartedly. Harper just gaped at him for a moment, then she shook her head, “I can’t believe you two”.
It wasn’t that they weren’t happy for the two, it was just after almost two years of silent pining on both sides the sudden change in the relationship of the two boys was somewhat startling to the rest. They didn’t really know what to make of it.
When Bellamy woke up the next morning, the other’s still fast asleep, he noticed that Miller was missing from the tent. Peeking outside he saw Monty and Miller sitting in the early morning light at the cold fireplace, talking quietly, huffing out laughs.
He started to shake Clarke in excitedment and when she let out a frustrated groan he motioned her to be quiet and pointed outside of the tent. When Clarke caught sight of the two men she started to hit Murphy enthusiastically and the next thing all three of them were gaping through the gap. Miller actually reached out and brushed something off of Monty’s cheek, who ducked and smiled.
“Is this really happening”, whispered Octavia in the other tent, where the rest of the group was sitting in the exact same position as their friends, watching the two men outside.
“What on earth did you say to him O”, Raven asked. “I really didn’t know it would have this effect”, Octavia replied, not entirely sure it had been her words yesterday that had set this new development into motion.
“Are you guys planning on coming out soon or are you waiting for a show?”, Miller suddenly raised his voice, seemingly aware of the eyes on them and everyone scrambled back from the flaps.
“What is happening”, groaned Wick and they all just shook their heads, clueless.
The rest of the days went by in a blur, swimming, playing volleyball on the beach, sunbathing, reading, eating ice-cream… It was paradise, and the new development on the Minty-case just made it all the more perfect.
Octavia had went off to go get the hot lifeguards number and when she returned with a triumphant smile she declared that she sure as hell wouldn’t be single very much longer.
On their last evening they were again seated around the fire, Monty wearing Miller’s jacket which was way to big for him and made him look even more adorable than usual.
Monty and Miller had been obnoxiously cute the last few days, sharing personal moments and firing off flirty comments at every occasion until Murphy complained loudly that maybe he preferred the pining to this.
They hadn’t seen the two kiss though, and so, as one last act of friendship, they had all silently decided that this was the night when they would learn the truth. That was why when Octavia proposed a round of Truth or Dare nobody except for Miller and Monty objected to the idea.
“Okay, Miller”, Monroe started the round, “Truth or Dare?” Miller looked doubtful and admittedly a little scared when he said: “Dare.”
“Is there anyone you like at the moment”, Monroe began and was met with a collective groan from the group, even her girlfriend rolled her eyes at the needless subtlety of the question. Monroe shrugged, she really wasn’t one for scheming anyway.
Miller huffed out a laugh, “I think that’s kind of obvious isn’t is?”, he answered, side eying Monty, who was looking down at his hands with a red tinge on his cheeks and a happy smile.
“Me next”, Octavia shouted and Monty interjected, “hey that’s not how this works”.
“Shut it”, Raven ordered and Monty looked at his friends in disbelief.
“Monty, how long has this really been going on”, the younger Blake asked and when Monty didn’t answer the whole group started to complain loudly.
“We have a right to know”, Bellamy yelled while the others nodded in agreement. Miller and Monty exchanged incredulous looks at their friends’ behaviour and finally shrugged.
“Since we came here”, Miller admitted. “Why all of a sudden”, Harper wanted to know. Monty blushed and when he didn’t answer Miller nudged him, “because Monty couldn’t take me without a shirt”, he grinned and Monty hit him playfully on the arm.
“Is that true?”, Octavia demanded. Monty shrugged, “you kept telling me to go for it”, he explained. “This is fucking tragic”, Murphy commented and the others snapped: “shut up Murphy”.
“Okay fuck this”, Murphy answered hotly, “Miller, have you kissed Monty yet”. Everybody grew quiet at this as it was Miller’s turn to blush. “Um I really don’t think that’s any of you’re fucking…”, Monty started but Octavia cut him off.
“Oh please”, she retorted, “we have been taking both of your ridiculous behaviour for almost two years now, first the pining, now the flirting, I can’t even believe that we are still your friends, so answer the fucking question Miller”. Monty searched for Harper, pleading with his best friend, but she just crossed her arms and met his eyes with a stern expression.
“No”, Miller finally admitted, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“Well then, Nathan Miller”, Bellamy began, slow and meaningful.
“No”, Miller interjected.
“I dare you”, Bellamy raised his voice, “to kiss Monty Green, on the mouth, right here and now, or I swear to god I will withdraw all of the best-friend-privileges from you forever”.
“I second that”, Murphy threw in.
Miller looked at Monty, who was looking at him. “You don’t have to…”, he began.
“I swear to god I will fucking force their faces together”, he heard Octavia say, but Miller had already leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the other boy’s lips.
For a moment Monty just revelled in the feeling, then he opened his mouth and pulled Miller closer by his shirt, shifting into his lap and was met with cheers from the group.
“Fucking finally”, Harper said in the background but the two were to invested in the each other in that moment to really care. The kiss grew hotter, heavier, Monty unconsciously tugging at Miller’s collar and Miller’s hand slipping under Monty’s shirt to graze over his back and all of a sudden the cheers turned into loud yells and complaints. Someone made a retching noise and Monty grinned into the kiss at the sound. “That’s enough, that’s enough”, they heard Raven with a panicked voice and Murphy groaned, disgusted.
Monty finally pulled away, tugging on Miller’s lower lip one with his teeth last time and settled back down beside him. They were met with the furious stares of their friends, who seemed too upset and Miller grinned, pulling Monty close to his side, the other boy wrapping his arms around his waist.
He snorted when they continued to glare at them, scandalised, “you guys are absolutely ridiculous”.
