"Beck, mi amor, I have something for you!" Adriana called to the woman, a small wrapped box in her hands.
The witch instantly stirred at the sound of her name; her eyes intently watching Adriana approach. A warm smile curled her lips at the words mi amor, and she fought the ridiculous and childish urge to blush like a school girl.
She gingerly took the box from Adri and explored its edges; where the paper creased, where the tape secured it into place, the tiny bump where the ribbon interrupted the smooth texture of the paper. Gingerly, carefully, she began to unwrap the gift. Magic dissolved the tape and adept fingers worked their way around silken ribbon until the paper was neatly unfurled around the tiny box. Her eyes flickered up to meet Adriana’s, excitement twinkling in her bright blue gaze, and then she lifted the lid.
Between thumb and forefinger she examined the cool metal before dropping it into her palm. What did this mean? Was this a key to Adri’s home? It wasn’t like Beck needed a key to anywhere; a simple spell unfastened the most complicated of locks.
Choosing not to spoil the Christmas spirit, Beck adopted a cocksure grin and looked back to her girlfriend. “If this is the key to your heart, I thought I’d already picked that lock.”
