Had a bit of free time this morning, so rare these days. Then I think of Georgia and how she'd roll her eyes at me because there aren't even any zombies to contend with here, what am I complaining about?? #doodlesofinstagram #doodle #sketchbook #georgiamason #feedseries #miragrant #miragrantfeed #pencil https://www.instagram.com/p/BqSzRCEhgiQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5233m99nxdxa
…reading Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire’s new viral disease thriller Kingdom of Needle and Bone may not have been the *best* idea when sick…and yes, that sign does read “Attention All Patients: if you have any type of respiratory issues you need to wear a mask while you are in the office AT ALL TIMES!!!” #miragrant #seananmcguire #kingdomofneedleandbone https://www.instagram.com/p/BsJocjAFdgMhpNZphIQLQPOWKIwzm5wsdZdN7o0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mzwvksjqgdd0

Oct 3: Believe Me I Am Here
Believe me / I am here / I answer an echo / I hear my own voice / like a conversation while drowning / you are already turning / I hear the pounding of my heart / take me home.

IT’S ALMOST TIME TO SIGN UP FOR THE POEMING III!
HELLO WRITERFOLKS! It is only June, but as is customary for THE POEMING, Sarah, Samantha, & I (EKA) want to get y’all signed up and ready to go early so that y’all have some time to find your book, read it, flip through it, prepare, and start making poems over the summer! We will open up sign-ups for THE POEMING III: THE MENACE OF MCGUIRE on June 15. Books will be assigned as quickly as possible. What we are looking for when you fill out your sign-up sheet is a willingness to work with the technology we’re using (Tumblr and Facebook) and a til-death-do-us-part commitment to the project. If we get more sign-ups than we have books, we will be taking into consideration things like participation history (whether folks have done this before and finished the project), experience with found poetry, and, mostly, who showed up first. (We will make a waiting list in case someone drops out before October.) It’s very important to us that we have 31 poems for each Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant novel. That’s part of why we assign early! You are totally going to be allowed to work ahead. We just want everyone to post their poems daily in October. So if you sign up, make sure you can commit! We are requiring a blood oath from all participants. Those who break the blood oath will be sacrificed to the sinkhole on the White House lawn. Nobody wants that. The list of McGuire/Grant books that we will be assigning is here in this convenient Google Doc. We will only be working with novels. Seanan McGuire (Grant is her penname) is extremely prolific, and does have novellas, short stories, and collections. But as with past POEMINGs, we are only looking at the novels. Get in touch if you have questions! Can’t wait to start this TERRIFYING POEM JOURNEY with y’all! xEKA
October 2: The Tyrant Shoves and Chews
a Bay Area mover and shaker
the picture of health
looked thoughtfully at the Governor’s Mansion
always room for another million dollars
appreciated a good Bible reference
owned two shaggy dogs
a place in the American heart
gave people time to snap pictures
the little cracks let in
born of hubris
bit by bit
the world drew out of focus
bit by bit a long
journey ended
aides couldn’t see the problem
a sign of something going on
no one had power to stop things
it was too late
only his arms outstretched
reaching for people
in the front rows
to bite throats,
the flesh of the world

I don’t read zombie books. This is not what I call a “zombie book”, though there are usually quite a few, right around the corner, for our beloved Shaun to poke at 😉 This is a book (/series) about truth and justice and morality and humanity. It’s about biohazards and journalism and politics and suspenseful adventure and courage. It’s a story about friendship and blogging and trust and heartbreak, with just a pinch of silliness on some character’s part and plenty humour to keep us entertained.. this story is about (oh!) so much more!
