BUT SPEAKING OF WHICH, here are my bird opinions

SPOCK

the obvious choice. Slay bird. I was inclined to give him a spalding peafowl due to the whole hybrid thing but the blue just fits too well .

MIRROR SPOCK

The man is a northern cassowary if I’ve ever seen one. No elaboration

KIRK

Obvious choice again, lutino cockatiel. Charming, pretty, breeds well in captivity, nuff said.

MIRROR KIRK

Yellow crested cockatoo. By nature pretty chill birds, but bad husbandry can make these motherfuckers BITE.

BONES

Yes, the brown thrasher is the Georgia state bird, but it is also a chatty bickering bitch that protects its nests [or in this case his favourite idiots] fiercely <3 could also see him as a variety of owls, but I think he wouldn’t be a bird of prey

northern shrike. Implications are obvious, also being compared to a bird that impales its prey would offend regular bones and I appreciate that.

Also obvious choice. Assigning a hyperpolyglot a lyrebird is mandatory. She gets the superb lyrebird because it’s also elegant and beautiful <3 [I used a male lyrebird because female lyrebirds naturally don’t have the cute tail and Uhura deserves a tail..] it was between this and a secretary bird because those are my favourites, but I didn’t want to assign her that one purely because I don’t want to put her near anything called a secretary, because people that don’t understand Star Trek refer to her as that far enough.

[Six hours after investigating the infected crewmember, Leonard McCoy has finally found a cure, and tested its safety on himself. He prepares a good amount of vials and heads to the bridge, inoculating those he finds on the way.

After preemptively hypospraying Lieutenant Uhura, she informs her that the last information she has on their captain is that he was heading to his ready room with Mr Spock.

Bones has seen the way this virus affects behaviour, so he prepares himself not to react to whatever he'll see behind that door. But his precautions prove unnecessary, as, when he comes in, he only finds them laying on the floor, surprisingly fully clothed. James is sound asleep, and Spock holds him in his arms, watching him closely.

Without a word, not wanting to break whatever pocket of peace they had managed to build there, Bones injects both of them with the cure, and leaves.]

[The following day, Kirk and Spock don't talk about it. They don't, either, the day after that. On the third day, Kirk can't stand it for any longer, and calls Spock to his quarters. But the words don't come out. Instead, he tentatively offers two of his fingers, and Spock meets them in the ozh'esta. Neither of them move.]

*Bones has once again slunk his way onto the bridge despite not having any real reason to be there. Most everyone has learned by now not to tell the CMO what he can and can't do, so no ones called it out even if Commander Spock IS giving him the stink eye.*

*he is, as usual, hovering around the captain's chair like a ghost with poor posture, throwing out snide remarks left and right. Eventually he settles into leaning on a nearby console with a pose that can't possibly be comfortable.*

"...you know captain, s'been about a month of sundays since you've had a proper physical down at my med bay. You've ignored all the reminder messages, and aint listend to me about it being needed.

Hell, you pulled rank to get out of it last time... but before you start bellyaching at me all over again that your fine and dandy, you might wanna get that looked at."

*as he says 'that' he points at kirks right leg, which is perfectly fine. Then as the captain turns to look at it he strikes with the hypo that had before been resting innocuously in his hand, injecting something into the captain's left arm.*

"whoops my hand slipped. Well... now you might wanna go get that checked out too."

[He ignores the sting in his arm for a while. Then it starts feeling worse. Obviously upset, he gets up and follows the doctor to sick bay, while spock takes his place in the captain's chair.]
