During the Second World War, all non-essential travel was discouraged to conserve fuel supplies and ensure that train accommodation was available for troop transport. Instead, local authorities encouraged people to take 'holidays at home’. This photo features a family having a picnic on a local farm making use of local facilities.

The Beatles played the Hollywood Bowl on 22 August having flown to Los Angeles the night before after their show in Vancouver. They stayed at a rented house on St. Pierre Road, in Brown Canyon, Bel Air. August 24th was a day off and all four of them visited a ranch and were given guns and holsters, as well as cowboy hats.
