In the readme.txt of ver. 0.02 of Imperishable Night, a note was added saying that the file still contained stuff from ver. 0.01, therefore it might be inacurrate. At the end of the file, some information about existing bugs was also added.
There was a small change in the おまけ.txt of Imperishable Night:
ver1.00a: 取得するたびに訳の変わらない補足が追加されて、
ver1.00b: 取得するたびに訳の判らない補足が追加されて、
A symbol was changed in the readme.txt of ver0.03a of Imperishable Night.
ver0.03: 弾は絶対に当たってはいけないもで、
ver0.03a: 弾は絶対に当たってはいけない物で、
Also, the readme of ver0.03 still said ver0.02 at the top.
The readme.txt of the full version ver1.00 of Imperishable Night still said 体験版Plus (Trial Plus), but it was corrected in the file of ver1.00a.
The MIDIs from Imperishable Night ver. 0.01 and 0.02 sound normally in game, but if you extract the files and listen to them with a music player, they will behave very oddly.
The MIDIs from ver. 0.03 onwards sound normally in a music player. They do not display this behaviour.
Strange numbering of “volumes”
I just recently noticed a strange numbering of the games while looking through the txt files that are in the folders. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is called “vol.1″, but Perfect Cherry Blossom is called “vol.3″.
I was a bit confused at first, because to my knowledge, there were no games released between EoSD and PCB. But it seems that the trial versions of Perfect Cherry Blossom were called differently. PCB trials 0.01~0.04 were called “vol.2″ and the 0.05~0.11 ones were called “vol.2.1″.
Going further, I found that Imperishable Night trial versions were called “vol.3″ like Perfect Cherry Blossom full version.
The full version of Imperishable Night is named “vol.4″.
Phantasmagoria of Flower View trial version is called “vol.5″
And Phantasmagoria of Flower View Full version is called “vol.6″.
Shoot the Bullet is called “vol.7″
And Immaterial and Missing Power full version is called “vol.5″ like Phantasmagoria of Flower View trial version. There is no such file in IaMP trial.
After StB, there are no more volume numberings.
In conclusion,
vol.1 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
vol.2 - Perfect Cherry Blossom trial ver. 0.01~0.04
vol.2.1 - Perfect Cherry Blossom trial ver. 0.05~0.11
vol.3 - Perfect Cherry Blossom full and Imperishable Night trial
vol.4 - Imperishable Night full
vol.5 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View trial and Immaterial and Missing Power full
vol.6 - Phantasmagoria of Flower View full
vol.7 - Shoot the Bullet
In addition to the volume numbering discussion, twitter.com/SCDictionary sent me this picture of the Imperishable Night announcement paper. It was distributed at ComicMarket 65 (30 December 2003). Recently, it was sold for 350,000 yen in Japanese net auction.
Towards the end of the picture, it says “ver 2.7″. The person who sent the picture told me that it might be a mistake and it should have been “vol.2.7″ instead.
