alongside classic/revisionary identity alignments, alternates also have the more well known alpha/beta/omega and sigma dynamics.

the base dynamics

Alpha: usually experience rut cycles and denning instincts, with rare exceptions Omega: usually experience heat cycles and brooding instincts, with rare exceptions Beta: don't have a cycle, but experience ruts or heats in response to the heats and ruts of others, can have both brooding and denning instincts Sigma: has no cycle, does not experience rut or heat, has no brooding or denning instincts

heat, rut, and cycles.

rut: A period characterized by increased libido, desire to impregnate humans or other alternates, and desire to build a den or nest. Can also cause aggression, dominant behavior, sadistic behavior, withdrawal, isolation, moodiness, short temper, mood swings, wandering, territoral behavior, parental instincts, temperature fluctuations, cramps, and loss of appetite.

heat: a period characterized by inscreased libido, desire to be impregnated by humans or other alternates, and desire to brood or nest. Can also cause aggression, irritability, submissive behavior, masochistic behavior, neediness, moodiness, short temper, mood swings, lethargy, melancholy, agoraphobia, parental instincts, temperature fluctuations, cramps, and increased appetite.

hex: a sympathetic reaction a beta has towards a mated pair in its pack. hexes are periods of increased affection, social behavior, desire to make/organize a haunt, and desire to take care of the mated pair.

circuits (for rut) and rhythms (for heat): also known as non-cyclical heats/ruts or sympathetic heats/ruts/hexes. experienced by betas, often in reaction to an alpha/omega experiencing rut/heat. circuits/rhythms have fewer secondary effects and last for shorter periods of time.

phantom heat/rut/hex: experiences by mixed sigma dynamics, in which the sigma experiences secondary symptoms of a heat/rut/hex, but no primary symptoms.

atlas⚰️: a bird's eye view of an alternate haunt -- aka the dwelling that a group of alternates (a haunting) build and live in.

this example is a subterranean burrow located in a forest that would house about 3-8 feral adult alternates. burrows like these can be expanded as cambions grow and mature. every haunt will look different, but will often feature a communal area, sleeping quarters, a brood nursery, and dining area.

typically dug/scavenged/built by one or more alphas, a haunt is the protected and secretive lair where alternates sleep, mingle, rear their young, mate, and sometimes eat. in this example, everything aboveground in a certain radius (typically a few acres) is the alternate's general territory.

alternates are typically solitary until they mate, at which point they may become more gregarious as they are often polyamorous. however, even mated alternates keep their preference for solitude, which is why a haunt of only 3-8 would have so many rooms.

someday we'd like to make more diagrams like this, and make them prettier too! but i think this gives a good enough idea of what a dwelling for feral alternates may look like.

Mortimer🪞: Feeling the strong urge to den. I yearn to dig burrows, drag large tree branches into the twisting tunnels I've dug, and secure earth and branches with webbing to create a safe residence. Or to scout for abandoned dens and human buildings to either scavenge from or repurpose into a haunt. Need to rake my claws through dirt and wood, bend it to my will, until it serves our pack; A beautiful foundation for my mates to turn into a home.

It's quite unfair to be stuck in a sterile apartment building in the city.

in addition to the classic a/b/o dynamics, alternates have three main groups of identities that comprise their concept of "gender," which are as follows:

Sexual/Sadistic Action incubane: takes a penetrating role in sex. succubane: takes a penetrated role in sex. luvarne: sexually absent, but may or may not be sadistic/masochistic concubane: takes a penetrating or penetrated role in sex.

Sexual/Sadistic or Domninant/Submissive Role asmodine: sexually dominant/sadistic paramourine: sexually submissive/masochistic rosine: sexually switch, can be both masochistic and sadistic

Social role satene: socially dominant lithene: socially submissive verrene: socially versatile

additional notes on classic dynamics: -satene is seen as the most important and ideal "gender" for an alternate to display traits of. lithene is an accepted identity so long as they submit to satene alternates and uphold the status quo. -both asmodine and luvarne are seen as respectable sexual orientations, with paramourine being repspected slightly less. -both incubane and succubane are respected sexual orientations. -parcubane, rosine, and verrene are stigmatized identities because they defy the dichotomy of submissive and dominant (or aggressor and victim) so they are seen as unnatural threats to the status quo. -sado/masochism is used to describe an alternate's aggression, prey drive, and behavior relating to the purpose of eradicating humanity.

in revisionary alignments, all identities are treated with the same respect, can apply to human-alternate relations, and dynamics can be more fluid.
