"Dearly Departed"
"I'm sure many of you knew my brother, else you probably wouldn't be here. And as most of you should know, he was an angel. Was as in he had his Grace stolen from him and he became human as you all know." Gabriel frowned, not making eye contact with anyone.
"Castiel, he...he was one of the best brothers I had. He might not have been the most up-to-date angel in any means, but he was kind, strong and caring of others. He desperately tried to understand all he could about humans both to fit in better and just to learn more. He always wanted to learn more," his voice dropped and he paused for a little bit, glancing up.
"Now I know most of you didn't know him when he was a kid, but, as his older brother and mentor, I got to see all of his little sensitive self. Even as a kid, he just wanted to understand, though that usually meant getting himself into places that he wasn't supposed to be or places that he couldn't get out of without help." Gabriel let out a choked laugh.
Then his fleeting smile dropped and he looked back down at the podium, not daring to look at the casket behind him. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss that little explorer of a fledgling." Gabriel's face scrunched up with pain as he continued, words clipped. "I'd also be lying if I said I didn't miss the being he grew up to be. I never thought I'd lose one of my siblings like this. I never thought I'd outlive one of my younger siblings, especially not Cassie." Gabriel's hands gripped the podium as his body shook lightly. "This isn't supposed to happen to angels, especially not to smart ones like him. And the worst part is, I-" His voice cracked with an early sob. He covered it with one hand, tears filling his eyes. "I don't even know where his soul went! I d-don't know where he went and I..." The tears spilled over and ran down his cheeks. He hunched over, gripping the podium so tightly that it started to crack under his fingers. When he continued, his voice was just above a whisper, "I never got to say goodbye to my little brother."
He was unable to say another word as he broke down in sobs and bolted from the front of the room. He collapsed against a tree outside a few miles away, wailing.
