It's Artemis who's there first as Baby touches down on Earth soil. And it's Artemis who walks halfway up the ramp toward a M'gann who looks as if any moment she will fall on her knees, as if Earth's gravity is too heavy to let her take another step. And it's Artemis who reaches out a hand, because it's Artemis who knows exactly what M'gann is going through.

M'gann lets Artemis pull her from the hatchway and into her arms. She leans her weight against her, with her head in the crook of Artemis's neck and her shoulders tucked under Artemis's arm. Her hip bumps Artemis as the walk clumsily from Baby's shade into the sunny May day. The grass is green and soft, the air smells faintly of the apple trees Snapper tends, and the house looks disjointedly the same when M'gann's entire world has changed.

Many people come by or call that first day, and in the days to come, but Artemis is the first to hold her hand and walk her upstairs. When Wolf raises from his nap to press his nose into M'gann's side and whine in distress, Artemis wipes tears from her freckled cheek and nods. She understands this too. It's Artemis who cradles M'gann on the bed she'd meant to share with another, and she knows all the things to avoid, his side, his night stand, his dresser. It's Artemis who, through the night, strokes M'gann's hair and whispers all the things she wished she'd heard in between bouts of sleep or sobs. It's Artemis who's the first to visit and the last to leave.

zatanna/artemis is really cute even though i hate the ships name a lot. unless you hc them both as lesbians (which most of us don’t), it really doesn’t make any sense. i call it magicarcher instead
