Old Saint Jo

On September 25th, the Old Saint Jo team premiered on YouTube. This was episode one of an ongoing episodic history series about St. Joseph, Missouri. We will also be uploading bonus content like live stream episodes with members of the community sharing various stories about St. Joseph, Missouri. This is a community-based project and the intent is to help facilitate a healthy discussion about the history of our little mid-western town.

We reached a decent number of people on our Facebook account reaching 2,427 people. However, that number faltered quite a lot when only 293 people watched the premiere. 

We’re hoping to increase our marketing tactics for future episodes to ensure that more people will see all of our work. Our main demographic is people from St. Joseph Missouri so we will be reaching out to schools in the area because it may appeal to them and their teachers through its educational aspects.

A student on the campus of #MissouriWesternStateUniversity was recorded confronting a student who was wearing a #MAGA hat.⠀⠀⠀ ———⠀⠀⠀ The #MissouriWestern student #DossouNidaye noticed a person on campus wearing a MAGA hat and asked him to take it off. The disagreement moved to the second floor of the union, and Missouri Western police officers tried to defuse the situation.⠀⠀⠀ ———⠀⠀⠀ “I went up to him peacefully, and I said, ‘Hey, why are you wearing that hat? Why do you think it’s OK to wear that on this campus?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ and took the hat off,” Nidaye told the Griffon News.⠀⠀⠀ ———⠀⠀⠀ “And that was that, and I was going to end like that, but this older white man came up from behind me and was like, ‘Shut up,’ walked past me, got me out of the way and said 'shut up' and told him, ‘No, don’t listen to her – put it back on.’ I turned around to him and I said, ‘Why do you think that’s OK? Why are you telling him that and to put it back on?’”⠀⠀⠀ ———⠀⠀⠀ Missouri Western State University President Robert Vartabedian issued a statement about the incident Saturday.
