Since my rewatch finally got to The Hunter's Heart, I thought I should update my Arthur/Mithian fic that had been on my wip list over 2 years 😂

They still haven't got past the pre-slash phase but they had their first night 🙃

Merlin rewatch -- S4E11: The Hunter's Heart

It's even less popular than Merlin x Mithian judging by the number of fics on AO3, but I think given time Arthur x Mithian will be a good pair, no? (I do also love Arthur & Mithian brotp~~)

Mithian is so pretty~~~ 🫠🫠 She actually had far less screen time than I remembered in this episode, yet her presence was so strong. Thank god she had a second appearance in s5.

Arthur was so worried xd and then completely fell for the beauty <3 (They put so much work on Mithian's beautiful costumes and they put Arthur in chainmail and that ugly crown??)

(It's funny that in the reaction shots that were supposed to show how Mithian took everyone's breath away, these two knights looked bored out of their mind 😂What's the intention, director??)

Always love this little cheeky flirting and Arthur's stupid face~ Possibly no one tried it on Arthur before. Not on first meet, at least. Gwen was awkward at the beginning, and they had huge power difference, so Arthur usually needs to be the one who takes initiative. Elena was bad at it and didn't have the heart to do it anyway. Enchantment was involved in Sophia and Vivienne's cases so put it aside. It's a nice and rare dynamic for Arthur.

Mithian had one line in the scene, and then just smiled prettily at Arthur, and I ship them so hard. The way they smiled at each other~~

It's especially precious because after Gwen left Arthur had been very tensed. I don't think he got to relax and laugh a lot.

He was even relaxed enough to he could poke fun at Agravaine~

Arthur's so happy that Mithian like hunting🥹precious. Merlin hated it and I think Morgana and Gwen were the same 😂

Then he just drowned in Mithian’s brown eyes lol He had such a crush on her <3

(It's really impressive that this is as believable as it is. It'd be so easy to make it feel shoehorned and make Mithian unlikeable.)

Really nice to see Mithian's face contorted a bit xd Oh Arthur. You're still cute though. This is what you get when you push your romancing helper (Merlin) away.

The only thing that's not perfect in this is that Arthur’s being a prat again... Why does he always do that when he wants to show off in front of girls? Hasn’t he learned from Gwen?

Mithian was so good at it, saving face for Arthur effort effortlessly. And the giggle afterwards was just adorable 🥰

I like Mithian's show of competitiveness. She's not as vicious as Morgana, but she has edges. She really suits Arthur well.

Very sad that she became background noises soon after... and like, I'm not opposed to Arthur and Gwen getting back together eventually. They had strong bond that was built over time, which I like in any kind of relationship. But I really like Arthur and Mithian because it showed that political marriage didn't always bring bad ending, and the possibility of happy marriage without destiny and true love.

However petty Merlin was in this episode he too could not resist Mithian's charm, as it seemed.

Kind of cute that Merlin was so ready to hate Mithian but was stunned by her beauty instantly. Then he looked around and tried to pretend he wasn't xd It's very in character though. He always got taken in by good-looking ladies. Morgaa, Nimueh, Catrina...

His magic eyes were so red for some reason. Morgana's too, in one scene. I think it’s the CGI department’s fault, but I’m all down for the headcanon that it’s because Merlin’s is doing something bad XD

It makes me feel a little better that Merlin seemed a tiny bit guilty that his hostile attitude (for no good reason) was noticed by the very person.

Merlin was totally smug that Mithian said Arthur valued his opinion the most. The smile could be just sarcastic/incredulous, but to me it looked like he couldn’t help but smile at the thought that Arthur did value him.

It's actually not that hard to catch Merlin's heart, is it? You just need to 1) say that Arthur likes him the most, and 2) say that Arthur is really nice and cute. lol. Now Merlin’s happy. Though tbf, he’s mostly mad that Arthur changed target so fast, not so much Mithian herself.

I do wonder how Mithian noticed that Arthur valued Merlin’s opinion more than others, seeing that they were NOT in good terms this episode... we just have to headcanon that Arthur spent over half of his date with Mithian talking about Merlin <3

This “for love I can give up everything” sentiment...

Mithian's question was completely valid. Arthur had agreed on this alliance and the terms, and he rebuked it for his selfish desire. There wasn't any indication that his marriage with Mithian would bring the kingdom harm. If Arthur was so determined to pursue love and damn the consequences, he should just give up his kingship.

I don't want Arthur doing that. Arthur had always taken his duties seriously, and was extremely selfless when it came to his kingdom. Gwen was similar. That's what made their romance difficult. Fighting for Gwen once he became king was one thing, risking angering a strong kingdom in favour of someone who he himself has banished was another entirely.

Mithian's face here was great lol It's reacting to Arthur's "I have no desire for war." It's probably the most eye-roll-ish thing she was allowed to do.

No, it's not the right thing to do. It's what you want to happen, Merlin.

Merlin should make Arthur grow out of his spoiled prat persona, not encouraging the concept that he could do whatever he wants because he's the king. Or worse, manipulating Arthur to do his bidding.

I think the whole map subplot also increase my annoyance at the true love bit of the story… Arthur made zero clever decision regarding protecting his kingdom this episode, short of agreeing to ally with Nemeth (which he did before this episode).
