I don't think you guys understand that they purposefully made a famous Byler scene more rewatchable.

They could have done new memories with Mike and Will, still emphasizing queerness and their relationship. But they referenced something. They referenced a specific, pre-existing, commonly taken by shippers as laying romantic foundation, Byler scene.

Mike's shed speech genuinely soooo much more romantic than it was now because like actually seeing it, that meeting was SO casual and fast it was not dramatic at all or a big deal and Mike was CRYING and shaky breathing thinking about it. Told a full story and everything. For a two-second event.

Great example of POVs. His description of his experience is so deeply emotional, dramatic, full of love. The event was extremely cute and beautiful! It was also two sentences and then it was done.

It was just a funny wakeup call. "Do you wanna be friends?" ":)" is what happened.

And thinking about in the context of how much he loved Will seven years later looked like this.

There's just such a contrast in a way that reminds you. In the same way that the 8mm filter, narration, and music made it as beautiful as Will saw it, it wasn't the event itself that made it beautiful, it was Mike's perception of it. The event itself looks like a normal day.

Just the reminder that all that emotion, all that internal world and reaction to the memory, it was all him. All his inner workings, retrospect, and lens he sees it and Will through. Just how different it looked reminded me just how much of that emotion was all just Mike's feelings for Will at 13, looking back saying "and now look how much I love you, all because I did that".

But at the time he, of course, wasn't feeling that. And seeing that just called out to me how much that speech wasn't a recounting of a memory. It was Mike telling Will how much he loves him now, for that to be the lens through which he sees their first meeting.

The Miwi Flashback in S5 is Will's 8th Birthday when he drew his Rainbow Ship

Will is 8 years old in the miwi flashback.

Joyce in season 2:

"When you turned eight, I gave you that huge box of crayons. Do you remember that? It was 120 colors. And all your friends, they got you Star Wars toys, but all you wanted to do was draw with all your new colors. And you drew this big spaceship, but it wasn't from a movie. It was your spaceship. A rainbow ship is what you called it. And you must have used every color in the box. I took that with me to Melvald's and I put it up and I told everyone who came in, "My son drew this." And you were so embarrassed. But I was so proud. I was so, so proud."

Because everyone forgot Will's birthday in season 4 due to Vecna possibly manipulating memories, Will has a flashback to when he drew his rainbow ship on his 8th birthday. And Mike and Jonathan are there. (Byler moment with the rainbow ship drawing??)

It would be cool if Will has the power of creation and his rainbow ship comes to life and becomes real once everyone's memories are restored.

Maybe this flashback helps to save Will from Vecna and sets up/foreshadows Byler becoming canon 2 episodes later, "Escape from Camazotz" (5x06.)
