Shout out to mixed kids who didn’t get to learn the language of half their family members.

Shout out to mixed kids who don’t look mixed and were raised by their white parent and therefore missed out on a lot of their cultural heritage.

Shout out to mixed kids who were raised around primarily white people and had to endure the racism and xenophobia of their white family members.

Shout out to mixed kids who got teased for looking too much or not enough like their actual race.

Shout out to mixed kids who get mocked when pointing out appropriation of their culture because they “don’t look like they’re [insert race here]”.

Shout out to mixed kids who feel like they don’t have a place anywhere because they’re too POC for white folks, but not enough for the other half of their heritage.

Just a small reminder to my fellow mixed woc/poc living with racist family members that it isn’t your fault or your job to correct them when they spew hate. When living with toxic family members your safety is more important than trying to change people who likely will never be willing to change. Instead of risking your safety just privately try to unlearn any racist beliefs and support your mixed friends who are likely dealing with the same issues. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your culture or your history.
