PART 1 - PART 2 - PART 3 - PART 4 - PART 5
It was supposed to be just a simple check-up mission, to see if there was any Demon activity. There had been reports about a stal falling on Earth, and thus, Master Ubuyashiki had sent Giyu, Sanemi, and Obanai to inspect the mysterious fallen object.
They didn’t expect to find what appeared to be a weird ship of some sort.
“Shit, what the Hell is this?” Sanemi cursed as he and his companions made their way inside the damaged ship.
“It doesn’t look like anything we have faced before…” Obanai grumbled as they took in their surroundings.
“Be careful, this might be the Demons' doing,” Giyu nodded silently, successfully pissing of the Wind Hashira, “I don’t take orders from you!”
Giyu ignored him as he inspected the ship further until he came to what appeared to be capsules of some sort. It was absolutely filthy, so he raised his hand to brush off the dust and dirt when suddenly-!
“Tch!” The Water Hashira hissed as he felt a quick sting, like he had been shocked, but when he looked, there was nothing.
“Oi, Tomioka!” Came Sanemi’s voice, “This place is empty!”
“I see…” Giyu nodded as he turned and joined his companions.
“We should head back to the base,” Obanai said, and the other two Hashiras nodded, but just as they were about to leave, a huge downpour came and took them by surprise.
“Well, shit,” Sanemi grunted, “Looks like we are spending the night here.”
“Fine by me,” Obanai said, and Giyu nodded, also, “That would be wise.”
And so, they settled down, their backs against the ship’s walls as they refused to let their guard down. Demons work or not, one could never be too careful.
But unknown to the men, as they rested, the capsule that Giyu had touched started to glow softly like a heartbeat…
The morning came, and the sun shone, not a single cloud in sight. The Hashiras yawned as they woke up almost in perfect unison… And that was when their eyes landed on a small girl, sitting nearby with her knees pulled against your chest.
It was you.
“Shit!” Sanemi and Obanai bolted up, drawing their swords out.
How were you so quiet!? How couldn’t they miss you!? It was like you had no presence!
“A Demon!?” Obanai hissed, and Giyu bolted up also… But when he looked at you, he couldn’t sense any danger.
“Hold on…” The Water Hashira raised his hand, telling his comrades to stand back.
“What!?” Sanemi shouted, “It must be a Demon!”
“Are you able to sense any malice from her, or are you just getting rusty?” Giyu asked, and successfully pissed off the Wind Hashira.
“Haa? I dare you to say that again…!”
“Haa?” You repeated as you tilted your head, “Haa?”
“I hate to admit it, but Tomioka might be right…” Obanai said as he sheathed his sword, “She doesn’t look like a threat.”
“She is so small…” Giyu frowned, “Where did she come from?”
“Who cares?” Sanemi frowned as he put his word away, “We can’t just leave her here. This is no place for a kid!”
“You’re surprisingly caring, Shinazugawa.” The Water Hashira noted, and the Wind Hashira hissed, “I dare you to say that again!”
“Dare…?” You hummed thoughtfully, “Hmm…”
“Either way, let’s get going.” Obanai said, “I’d hate to waste sunlight.
The Hashiras nodded as they prepared to leave, and Giyu turned to look at you, “You better come with us.”
“Come?” You asked, and the man nodded as he offered his hand to you so he could help you up on your feet. You stared at his hand for a second or two before taking it, and he easily pulled you up on your feet.
“Let’s go. Stick close to us.”
You nodded, and you left the weird ship and started to head back to the Corp’s base, where the men would report their mission. You were so small that you struggled to keep up with the men…
So Sanemi grunted and bent down, “Get on.”
“On?” You tilted your head again, and the Wind Hashira snapped, “Get on and I’ll carry you!”
You nodded as you climbed on the man’s back, followed by him getting up and carrying you on his back.
“You’re being very caring again, Shinazugawa.” Giyu noted with a small smile, and Sanemi snapped, “Drop dead!”
And they continued walking and talking… As you were being carried, you looked around curiously, taking in the nature and its many wonders.
But Sanemi soon noticed something crucial. You were getting heavier and heavier with each step he took. Not that he minded, he wasn’t some weakling, but it was unnatural how heavy you were getting!
“Oi, is it me or is she getting heavier!?” The man asked, and Obanai turned to look, and the man’s eyes widened as he noticed that you had changed.
“Put her down.” The Serpent Hashira said, and the Wind Hashira quickly bent down, and you jumped off from his back. That was when they all noticed that you had indeed grown from a child to a teenager!
“How!? How is this possible!?” Sanemi shouted, and Obanai frowned behind his bandages as he glanced at the Water Hashira, “Doesn’t she look a lot like you, Tomioka?”
“She…” The quiet man looked at you, and he couldn’t deny it. You were like a younger female version of him.
“I guess she does?”
“You guess!?” Sanemi frowned, “You two look like two peas in a pod!”
“Tomioka…?” You suddenly said, and to the men’s shock, you stepped closer to Giyu and gently tugged his haori’s sleeve, “I’m… I’m hungry…”
The men shared glances and then looked at you, “We aren’t far from a safe place. There should be some food for you. Do you think you can wait that long?”
You nodded quietly and then looked at Sanemi, “Shinazugawa… Carry me?”
“You have two legs, use them!” The Wind Hashira snapped, and you nodded quietly, completely unfazed by his shouting.
As you were about to continue walking, Giyu glanced at you and quietly offered his hand to you, “Would you like to hold hands?”
Your blue eyes widened slightly as you looked at his hand, then at him, and smiled, “Yes.”
So you took his hand, and the four of you continued walking until you made it to the Ubuyashiki family’s mansion.
The Master of the house and corps was there, sitting by a terrace and enjoying nature when you arrived.
“Iguro, Shinazugawa, and Tomioka,” The young man smiled as he turned his head towards his strongest men, “How did your mission go?”
“There was no Demon activity as far as we could tell,” Obanai said as he and his companions bowed on their knees before their Master, leaving you standing there, confused as you inspected everything around you.
“I see you found someone new?” Master Ubuyashiki smiled, “What is your name, young one?”
“Tomioka.” You answered with a straight face, and the three Hashiras quickly turned to look at you in shock.
“What!?”
“My, what an energetic young lady,” Ubuyashiki chuckled, “You don’t appear to be from around here?”
“I’m Tomioka,” You looked and smiled at Giyu, who was stunned quiet, but the Master of the corps nodded, “I see. Would you care to explain to me what happened?”
So Giyu, Obanai, and Sanemi told what had happened, and when asked what was different, the Water Hashira fell quiet. Others noticed this immediately.
“Oi, Tomioka, what are you holding from us!?” Sanemi snapped, and the quiet man frowned, “There was this capsule I touched… And it gave me an electric shock, but that was it.”
“I see.” Master Ubuyashiki nodded, “There is a chance that she is a product of Blood Art we have never seen before.”
“Then… What are your orders, Master?” The Hashiras asked, and the young man turned to look at you, “Do you have any evil intentions?”
“No,” You replied as you looked at Giyu and smiled, “I’m Tomioka, and I’m not dangerous.”
“She is certainly getting more talkative as she listens to us talk,” Master noted, and then made up his mind. “Then, would you like to stay here in my mansion?”
“Master?” The three Hashiras looked at their leader, but to everyone’s shock, you shook your head and knelt down next to the Giyu, gently tugging his Haori again.
“I’d like to stay with Tomioka.” You said with a smile, “I’d like to be useful.”
“What…?” Giyu was stunned, but the Master just chuckled, “Then, would you like to take this young lady as your Tsuguko, and train her to become strong like you, Tomioka?”
“I…” Did he really have a choice?
“Yes… I’ll train her with the best of my abilities.”
“Good, I fully trust you,” The Master nodded proudly, “You are dismissed.”
And just like that, Sanemi and Obanai went their separate ways, leaving you and Giyu alone.
“What happens now, Tomioka?” You asked, and the Water Hashira nodded, “You don’t need to call me Tomioka. You can call me Giyu.”
“Alright, Giyu.”
“Do you have a name?”
“No.”
Giyu sighed and rubbed the ridge of his nose, “Then, would you mind me calling you Mizuko?”
“Mizuko?” You smiled brightly, like you had just been given a piece of candy, “Please call me Mizuko!”
“Good,” The young man nodded, and speaking of candy, your stomach growled. You looked shocked by this as you looked down and then rubbed your tummy, “My stomach hurts…?”
“You must be hungry.” Giyu said, and you nodded, and he added, “Then, let’s get you something to eat. Would you like some salmon daikon?”
“Yes!” You nodded eagerly, “Yes, please!”
The man nodded, and the two of you started to head towards his mansion, where you would eat. You were eager and curious as you followed him, asking about big and small things.
It became clear that things that should have been obvious to many were new to you… But you and Giyu had a lot to learn about each other, that was as clear as water in a koi pond.
