Bone King AU by @ninjasmudge. So this is my ending: NON-CANON, from this interesting AU (I mean, it's just canon for me... but if the original creator gives me permission *cough* hi :D)😄😄
I was thinking about how Macaque, now that he's gone deaf (or so I understand), started living with the MK team for a while while they communicated with pencil and paper (until he recovered) and well (I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY AHAHSDHABDHA)😗😗😗
I imagine that Macaque would have a trauma with being petted on the head and even worse around the ears, I also plan to explain later why both Macaque and MK have dark circles.😗😗😗
Anyway, enjoy this little comic that took me 3 DAYS to create (it's the longest I've ever gotten)

have part of a red son design for your troubles, as well as a bit of a lore dump: (how they met nezha under cut)
mk and mei met because meis family own a huge amount of resources. shes in charge of a lot of the systems and kept noticing glitches in the system where produce amounts weren't adding up. when she went down there to check, she caught mk stealing engine parts to sell off and get food to feed himself and the other orphan kids around the area (quite a few since it was a mining colony). they ended up friends all the 'glitches' mysteriously disappear after that.
after that she started covering up slightly larger stuff for him, and helping him out, bc usually he stole resources from people hoarding them.
thet meet red son after mk goes to a huge meeting and conference that the bull family are attending to steal the high end parts from the private spacestation.
somehow, mk ends up stealing red son too, bc red was fucking around in the engine room and neither of them wanted to get caught by security.
they met nezha later after he’d been caught by the mayor. him and lbd were trying to force nezha into making a weapon for them that could take down swk.
obviously he was not doing that, bc swk is like a dad/older brother to him. so hes kind of resigned to being there for a long time
imagine then, all of their surprise when red and mk crash their ship into the side of an old spacestation, only to find some guy chained up and hurt in there.
they hurry him to their ship right as the mayor comes back and as soon as nezhas awake, he contacts swk
you better believe swk fucking smashes that whole place to the ground in kaiju form, and then goes after lbds main base for dareing to hurt nezha
its actually all this that allows maq to escape lbd with his new robot body, so even though swk doesnt actually find her base of operations, she does lose one of her most valuable assets in his rampage

THE COMEDY OF TWO LITTLE CURIOUS GREMLINS going into swk’s storeroom and one of them picks up something thats very obviously cursed (im talking like. radiating dark energy and puffs up a skull of dust when its moved) and just. staring at it for a beat before shoving it in her mouth is hysterical to me
OK SO I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW IF ITS A TOUCH SCREEN BUT IT WOULD BE REALLY FUNNY. i think he tells people its a touch screen and then zaps them with an electric shock when they try
also funny story, mk and red son stowed away on swk and maqs ship while they were looking for things to steal, theyve been living in the walls since then. they both think theyre VERY clever and sneaky, but swk and maq have known theyre there since they got on
since neither maq nor swk really need to eat there isnt usually much food on board, so they keep stopping to stock up with meals specifically so that mk and red can 'steal' it and feel very sneaky
Okay I don’t mean to intrude but the last ask/replies abt Macaque’s dynamics with BK inspired me
So we talked abt behaviors Mac exhibited to stay alive and the cues that triggered them based off of BK’s behavior.
Now most of that would go away when Wukong separated again, like the mist and stuff.
But some of it didn’t.
Way later in the au ofc, but Macaque finds himself accidentally falling into the familiar pattern with Monkey King. Maybe SWK has a moment of anger about something else entirely and Mac does something he used to do in front of the BK to avoid his wrath and both monkeys freeze with the realization of what just happened. Mac probably runs off.
also! absolutely no pressure on answering this! I just got overexcited and wanted to share.
honestly this sort of thing is the reason the more i think about the end of the au i think both swk and macaque would need some time apart before anything. which obviously would make it difficult because they also need to talk about things. swk is going to be feeling so much guilt from everything the bone king did. and macaque is going to be. so edgy. and so fucked up. i think... he is probably is a little more predispositioned to deal with the kind of mind games the bone king uses, partially because hes familiar with them (this wont stop it, he may be able to recognise the behaviours in himself) but mostly because it takes a LOT more to completely change the behaviours and disposition of characters that live thousands of years, theyd go insane otherwise, they’d need a little more....mental elasticity to deal with just how much theyd experience in that time.
but this being the bone king and a horror au, after maqs third escape attempt, you know whatd add another layer to the horror potential and really fuck the six eared macaque up?
…how did macaque and the twins escape lbd? bc in light of RECENT COMICS. it looks like it was a tough battle to say the least
A WELL
maqs fight to escape lbd went pretty much how youd expect, considering how long he lasted against swk. the kids start crying while hes out (because it was the first time hed left them alone for over a couple of hours), and the mayor finds them in maqs room.
maq SHOWS UP in the first ep of s3 but then dips literally half way through before even crashing his vehicle on the airship bc he can feel something off with the kids
he shows back up in his room, to find them gone and skids into the main room, finding lbd floating savage and the mayor still holding a wailing rumble
he tries to reason with her but she says they arent part of her destiny and dont need to exsist
lbd grabs him with the chains but as soon as she starts to hurt him with them, the kids start freaking and rumble escapes the mayors hold and rips up one of the chains up from where its holding him down (since rumble inherited parts of lbds magic, shes able interact with the chains a limited amount)
lbds actually so shocked, she releases the other chains on maq, and he immediately grabs the kids and runs, the mayor and lbd take chase and its a pretty high impact fight, where maq takes a bunch of hits bc hes trying to protect the kids too, and lbd knows how he works so she keeps ripping him up from the floors and walls before he can create a shadow portal
yeah basically the only reason they all escape is because lbd aint expecting the twins to have that much power and she does think its....interesting, possibly worth further investigation
they have to travel mostly on foot to get to ffm because hes worried putting them in his shadow dimension to portal out would actually dissolve them back into shadow magic, like when his usual clones poof
(worth noting that... this means maq still has the chains on him after he escapes)
