Raein: What are you doing right now?
Raein: if you're busy it's okay
Raein: I just wanted to talk

It had been forever since Raein had experienced a genuinely good day. Sure, good things happened to him here and there, but at least once a day, something scared him or made him think of something that made him uncomfortable. Or something would switch inside, and he’d have trouble remembering what had happened to him in the hours prior to that moment. No one could know, though. He had to hide it. He had to look happy and put together, because even those who knew about his disorder didn’t need to be worrying about him every second of every day. They had enough to worry about as it was.
That particular day had started nicely; he hadn’t had time for breakfast, but Jaemi had done karaoke with him, and he had decorated flash cards with Seulbi, so his mood was in a good place. But when he saw someone who, for a second, resembled his father, the panic set in. His first instinct was to call James, but he didn’t want to alarm him for nothing; after all, it hadn’t actually been their father. So he backed himself into a practice room and curled up against a wall, staring at his shoes. After a few deep breaths, he decided he needed to talk to someone, and the only one he knew wasn’t busy was Sora. While she didn’t know the details of why he was a mess, she always managed to say the right thing, so with shaking hands, he sent her a text with the practice room number, hoping that would be enough for her to figure out what was going on. His hands were shaking too much to write anything else. He set his phone down, curling up even more, and waiting for Sora to arrive.
dear sora
unsent letter #8,
dear sora,
hey, mom. have i ever told you how you’re actually like a second mom to me? it’s kinda weird, but i totally appreciate it. and i definitely appreciate you and all you do for me and everybody else. it’s admirable, really, how much you go out of your way to ensure that everybody else is doing okay. even when you and i both know that you aren’t doing alright, yourself. and now that i say that, i start to realize that we’re a lot alike, and i’m wondering if that’s why we get along as well as we do. i mean, think about it. we never fight, we always agree on everything, we handle our issues the same way.. well, for the most part, at least. i have a lot of growing up to do before i’m even close to becoming half as great as the person you are, but i like to think that i’m on my way there. you’re really wonderful, sora, and i don’t know if you’re told that often or not, but i really hope you are because you deserve to hear it as much as possible. i love you with every bit of my heart, and i really hope that you love me, too. i’m sorry if i ever both you. please just let me know if i do. and know that i’m always here for you, yeah? forever and always, i promise. i aim to make you really proud one day. i hope i do.
love always,jace
