HeadCannon: Chat and his Lady visit hospitals to cheer up the kids at least twice a month. Marinette brings cookies from the bakery and even makes some dolls. Chat Noir has made a few anonymous donations to pay for surgeries the family couldn’t afford.
It has its ups and downs. Seeing the kids faces light up with joy everytime they show up is life-changing, but returning to the hospital and being unable to find a familiar face is always hard on the hero who have become friends with all the kids.
One day they get a strange request. A little girl is dying to meet her hero.... Lady Wifi. Alya is more than willing to help, and the next time Chat and Ladybug visit, the kids get the surprise of not only Lady Wifi, but The Bubbler too! Following their visit, the kids suddenly want to meet all the other akumas, and thus Marinette somehow starts an organization that gets in contact with former akumas and arranges the visits.
Nathaniel like to draw with the kids.
Chloe likes dress up as princesses with the little girls
Alix and Kim have both lost arm wrestling competitions to them
Mylene likes to braid their hair
Ivan gives piggy backs
Max has lost a few pokemon battles
Rose and Juleka have become like a set of parents to half the kids
And Lord....... Excited doesn’t even begin to describe how happy the kids were to see THE jagged stone to show up one day and put on a private concert!
Feel free to draw or write any of this! I don’t need cred for the idea or inspiration. Tag me tho, just cause I want to know so i can go look at it immediately and worship it!
Adrien knows he's made a mistake as soon as the words leave his mouth. She blinks up at him, and her eyes go cold. "What do you mean, not me? I think I just made it pretty clear who I am, Chat. What's the issue?"
"You're... I mean, it isn't that I don't believe it, I'm just surprised, and-"
Marinette Dupain-Cheng folds her arms, pinning him with a severe look. "Who were you expecting then? You pushed for this. You said you wouldn't be disappointed."
"I'm not!" he throws his hands up, eyes wide. "I just... maybe this wasn't as good an idea as I thought..."
He hand strikes his face instantly, and she spins around. "Last time I give into you then. Don't follow me. I can't believe this," she muttered, storming off.
He closes his eyes, and begins to realize just how bad he's fucked up. He rejected the love of his life twice in as many days.
...
She clenches her fists and punches her pillow. How dare he? She lets him in, tells him who she is, and what's his response?
"No... no, not you..."
Like it could have been anyone else, and he'd have been happy. Like she was the absolute worst case scenario. Well, then screw that stupid cat! It was clearly a mistake to trust him, to believe him when he said he loved her.
He said he loved her. Why would he say that? He didn't even know her! She looks at the ceiling, feeling like the worst kind of idiot, believing something that couldn't have been paw-sib... possible in the first place. God, he even puns in her thoughts now?
She knows why she did it, too. She was heartbroken, from Adrien's awkward rejection, and admission that he loved somebody else. When Chat said he loved her, not anybody else, but really her, she wanted to believe him. She wanted to believe so badly that she forgot to think, and realize that all he knew was Ladybug.
Tears blur her vision, and she grabs the pillow, letting them fall. Is Marinette really that unlovable?
...
"How do I fix this how do I fix this how do I fix this?!" he pulls at his hair, desperately. "She is going to actually kill me!"
"She's not going to kill you, kid. She's just going to go home and probably cry a lot, and never treat you as more than a coworker again," Plagg offers. "Hey, at least she's not bleeding out on the streets while you cry over her broken body, right?"
Adrien takes a slow breath. "Plagg. That isn't helping. At all."
The kwami cackles at his holder's predicament. Adrien scowls, and begins thinking.
"I have to make it better... roses? Candy?" he bites his lip. "Both?"
"Sure, kid."
Adrien nods, and practically runs out the door.
...
She looks up to the window, and blinks. He's standing there, in the rain, with... are those roses?
She raises one eyebrow, and crosses her arms. He knocks again, and god, he looks miserable... but there is no way she's letting him in. She's not getting hurt again. She's sick to death of getting hurt by pretty blondes with sweet smiles and some serious issues. Even if he did bring roses. What was he thinking, a few flowers would make up for...
For what?
Being disappointed by her? That isn't his fault. He probably wanted to love her, and thought he did. Chat is the kind of person who runs headfirst into things without thinking. It isn't his fault he was disappointed when the amazing Ladybug was a person. Not that she's exactly average, but maybe... she's just not his type?
The point. There has to be a point.
She opens the window. "Don't bother with the flowers. I'm not mad, it just kinda... stung," she admits quietly. "I'm really not ready to talk to you. Please go home, Chaton."
He shakes his head. "No, I need to explain. Please, you have to let me explain, I wasn't disappointed with who you are, I just..." he looked away. "I messed up."
"A little bit." She folds her arms, eyes flashing, but steps back from the window. "Try not to get the carpet soaked."
He comes in, running a hand through his hair. "I think... it's only fair to show you who I am. It's the only way to explain, too."
She tenses, but nods. "If you really want to show me, of all people."
"That is not what I meant by that. I just meant that I'm stupid."
"No, no, not you? That means that you think you're stupid?" she laughs, sarcasm dripping from her lips.
He looks down. "When I show you, you'll understand."
"Then by all means," she gestures. "I'm not stopping you, Chaton."
He closes his eyes, and... lets it drop. And Marinette feels herself break for the third time. "My Lady?"
"...Did you come here to taunt me?"
"What?" he blinks. "No, why would I?"
"Because clearly, you don't like me. That's been made obvious over the past two days. Why are you here?"
"I... I love you..." he stammers, but she won't look at him.
"Leave me alone, Adrien."
"I made a mistake, please give me another chance!" his hands clasp together, the roses discarded. "Marinette... Princess..."
"You hurt me pretty badly, Adrien," she meets his eyes. "I'm not angry. I have no right to be. But I don't want to see you right now."
He looks down. "Alright then. I... I'll see you in class." He turned, and she didn't watch as he left.
*walks into ML Angst Week three days late with zero chill* Angst Week Day 1: Mistakes/Aftermath.
~*~
After hugging and kissing Emma, Hugo, and Louis good night, Marinette and Adrien transformed and made their way to the Eiffel Tower.
It had been an exhausting week. Paperwork, meetings, more paperwork and more meetings, long discussions with Alya over how the Ladyblog’s official statement would read. At one point, Marinette laughed and told Adrien she regretted not having tried writing sooner---she wasn’t half bad at it.
Now Adrien released his transformation as he sat on a steel beam with his wife’s head resting on his lap, their fingers intertwined. It wasn’t the most comfortable place, but it was their place. They’d watched countless sunrises and sunsets from that same beam, spent so many nights trying to find stars in the Parisian sky that Adrien couldn’t remember them all.
But he remembered the love, and that was all that really mattered.
Marinette’s grip on his hand tightened. Tightened. Tightened. Then loosened. They’d done this before, too, when she’d given birth to their children.
She wasn’t pregnant this time.
“That one was a doozy,” she said with a hint of humor.
Adrien stared resolutely ahead. He didn’t find it very funny.
“Adrien. Talk to me, please.”
He wanted to. Really, he did. But his words were trapped behind a knot of memories:
His father, unmasked, kneeling before him. Adrien running at him with tears in his eyes and a cataclysm in his hand. A flash of red as Ladybug threw herself between them.
Master Fu had given her ten years at best.
“Adrien.”
“Sure is a nice view,” he said, and he felt her shift in his lap so she could admire it as well.
A minute passed. Her grip tightened. She curled in on herself. Tightened. She whimpered. Tightened. If she’d broken his fingers, he wouldn’t have cared. And then she relaxed.
Adrien was almost too afraid to look. But she was still breathing, still gazing upon the city she loved, and the skin below her neck remained that same hideous purple. A tear slid down Adrien’s cheek and dripped onto hers.
“Don’t cry, chaton,” Marinette murmured. “It’s going to be okay. You and the kids, mama and papa, our friends, Paris... you’re all going to be okay.”
“But you won’t be,” Adrien whispered.
Marinette smiled. “I will be more than okay.” She turned her head to look at him. Her eyes shone in tower’s light. “I got everything I ever wanted,” she said. “Every single one of my dreams came true. What’s there to be sad about?”
Adrien was beyond the power of speech. Now it was his grip on her hand that tightened, tightened, tightened. He’d killed the love of his life in the slowest, most painful way possible. That’s what there was to be sad about. “I’m s-sorry,” he whimpered.
Marinette reached up and wiped his tears as they fell. “I told you to stop saying that already,” she chided him.
He clasped her hand and held it to his cheek as he cried. Beyond the tower, the night went on peacefully, quietly. For once, all was well in the city of Paris.
“Adrien,” Marinette said after some time, “I need you to do me a favor.”
And then she gasped, her face contorted in agony, her grip on his hand tightening.
“Marinette!”
Tightening.
“Marinette!”
Tightening.
She looked into his eyes. Her lips parted.
“Forgive your father,” she whispered.
And her fingers slipped out of his.
In the weeks that followed, Paris would mourn Ladybug. The fashion world would mourn the loss of a promising designer. Classmates would mourn the loss of their friend. Two bakers would mourn the loss of their daughter. Three little children would mourn the loss of their mother. And a grieving husband would take the first painful steps towards fulfilling the love of his life’s last wish.
But that night, it was just one lonely cat, howling at the moon.
Finals week is coming, so I’m almost back! Have some Greyling AU as a taste of the summer.
This whole au is kind of angst fodder if you haven’t noticed, so consider this my well-meaning attempt to join the fun on day 5 (victory/defeat) of ml angst week if I’m actually capable of counting.
You’ll get more information on Gabriel Agreste, the one and only Tuxedo terror, when I get to his sheet. But for now take the knowledge that Viva La Vida is a very fitting song to his cause, and watch as the whole world blames him for the one bad thing he actually doesn’t do in this au.
(Disclaimer: one can fill entire novels (and they have) with the amount of french I don’t know, so I’m sorry for every error that exists in the like 23 words of french in this thing.)
EDIT: fixed the transparency and hopefully the scaling too. Also for some reason tumblr thinks this is “”””Adult”””” content? IDK but aside from violence I’m not gonna post anything questionable in the tag.
