ML: Parallels [Structure Practice]
"I'd do anything for you."
His eyes twinkled. He looked at her, admiring the way she towered over him. Protective yet firm, she loomed over him with a fierce glow, and the stars in his eyes shined brighter with every passing moment.
With the villain defeated and Paris returned to normal, he watched her earrings flash. He looked at his fist, reminiscent of their fist bump moments earlier, and saw his ring flash too.
"I know," her voice responded, pushing him further into himself.
His shoulders sagged as he turned around. The response was always the same. They had played this game for months now, but she would never open up. The things he learned in his civilian form threatened to spill with every passing second, but she somehow always found a way to never hear the truth.
She could toe the line of lie and truth so naturally, while he barely kept up.
Always one step behind. Always out of the loop.
"Stay safe, Kitty," she said, the metal of her yo-yo whizzing as she anchored it to a nearby building.
His mouth twitched as he angled his metal staff.
"You too, M'Lady," he muttered as he launched himself in the other direction.
He didn't wait to see her answer.
They hadn't anticipated this.
An Akuma, an amok, it was all routine. But Chat Noir had a world of pain in his shoulders, and one hasty decision led to the Kitty lying on the floor, writhing in pain.
The akumatized person said nothing, their feet planted a few feet in front of him.
"I have nothing left, and now neither will you," The Akuma roared, their voice distorted.
DeMotivator, they called themselves. It took their passion and would gradually dwindle it to nothingness.
"Focus, Chat Noir!" His lady called, dodging the cloud of mist that shot from the sentimonster.
He obeyed, using his staff to propel him out of the way of the akumatized victim's incoming fist.
"I'm trying, but this DeMotivator is too mist-erious," he said, wiggling his eyebrows.
She paused, the mist hitting her square in the chest. Chat demeanor darkened as her shoulders began to untense.
"It's no problem!" she said, swinging her yoyo, "let's just finish this before I don't feel like doing this anymore."
The black-clad hero shivered. It was creepier to hear her not be as on edge.
A jump rope appeared and fell into her hands.
"A jump rope? Is this a joke?"
Chat frowned. It was definitely kicking in. Luckily, her eyes still darted around, looking for objects to defeat DeMotivator. Her eyes locked on the jumprope in her hand, the tennis-ball like sentimonster, the akumatized victim, and a nearby building all in the span of a second.
"Chat Noir," she called nonchalantly, "Let's retreat for now."
Chat turned towards the sentimonster, which no longer targeted Ladybug but was shifting towards him as DeMotivator went on a monologue about how they successfully hit Ladybug.
Chat ran to his partner, and pulled her closer with his left arm as he prepared to extend his staff in his right. She didn't make a move to stop him as her earrings flashed. Four minutes left.
"Hold on," he said, grinning, pushing them in the alleyway between the building she found and another one.
Her eyes locked with Chat Noir's frame, still putting the pieces together. Her eyes lit up for the first time since she was hit.
"Of course," she said. "Come here, Kitty."
He came closer and she looked him in the eyes, "I don't feel like I can carry this out, but as long as you aren't hit, we'll get through this."
He nodded as her earrings flashed again. Three minutes left.
"Alright, Chat, here's what we're gonna do..."
The plan had gone without a hitch.
Originally, Chat disagreed, having decided that Ladybug putting herself in even more danger would have disastrous consequences. But one look at her demeanor changed all of that, she was second guessing even going through with such a simple plan.
"You've won, DeMotivator." She said, the jump rope wrapped around her wrists like handcuffs, "Untie me and I'll give you my Miraculous."
DeMotivator looked at her, eyes squinting. "No," they said with a grin," I'd rather take it myself."
Chat smirked. They took the bait.
"Cateclysm," he whispered, the mass of black aura swirling around his right fist.
The sentimonster continued to shoot, changing direction to accommodate Chat. The cat-like hero dodged on his hands and feet, making sure to keep his right hand up so he could make contact. He continued scampering in zig zags before his hands touched the cool metal of the sentimonster, setting it up. As Ladybug predicted, the sentimonster's sense of direction malfunctioned, shooting one bag of mist towards where the villian and his Lady stood.
"You might want to turn around," Chat said teasingly, and as DeMotivator did they and Ladybug got hit with the cloud of mist.
The red-and-black heroine's double exposure became apparent as she crumpled to the ground. Her earrings flashed. One minute left. He seized the bracelet from the villian, cracking it's heart-shaped charm in his fist as his ring flashed. Four claws meant four minutes left to spare.
A purple haze came over the villian as they returned to normal, the black butterfly retreating. In the place of DeMotivator sat a brown haired college student, clutching their head in pain.
Chat Noir disregarded them, focusing on his Lady. They had no time to waste, not even for a fist bump. Thirty seconds left at most.
"Now Ladybug!" He shouted.
They were running out of time. His partner got up, turning around to face him. Her expression was unreadable. Sweat dripped down his forehead, and as she opened her mouth he realized too late that perhaps they should've called for backup.
"I shouldn't have to do everything," she said apathetically.
He ran before he could even see her detransform.
