I need to hear more about the Kindy/Martone thing. what's up with them

omg hii @0shark-yaps, Kindy/Martone (or Kintone as I have named them, but i'm taking suggestions) was born because my brain desperately needed a break from studying, but now i'm running with it

i'm a big kindy fan (i love that boy so much) and i saw some ppl editing him and ryan leonard (who i have a love-hate-relationship with (i once wrote you an anon about werewolf!leno)) so i decided i needed something better because there's a distinct lack of kindy in hrpf yaoi but i dont want it to be with THAT man. Martone just happened to be the first one I could think of that didn't create a weird agegap, him being a flyer is just a bonus (i am very intrigued by enemies/rivals-to-lovers)

(for the next part, please keep in mind that i don't know shit about hockey (working on it) and i live nowhere near canada and i am not immersed in hockey culture in general so all i can do is scour the internet for information)

now for what's up with them: not much, i fear. there's not a lot of crossover for them, as Kindy played in the WHL and Martone in the OHL so they never played against each other. Concerning national teams there's always a split between them (Martone being born in 06, Kindy in 07) so they never played on the same team, the only team they both were on was the 2024 CHL USA prospects challenge (Martone was captain; they played on different lines). During the draft, Kindy got up to congratulate Matthew Schaefer (they won the Hlinka Gretzky cup together in 2024) but not Martone. In the NHL they only played each other during the playoffs and they were part of a scrum(?) at the end of game 3. So they know (of) each other, but more as acquaintances than anything else.

but the beautiful thing about rpf is that i can make stuff up (i first have to learn more about the flyers tho (the pens too but not as much)) because at the end of the day, everything is fictional :))

ohh, I love the Sidney Crosby of it all. It's one of my favourite things. They obviously all grew up idolising SidCros (I don't think you can do anything different if you're Canadian and into hockey) but Porter has said in an interview that SidCros was his favourite player growing up (Idk about the other two, but I know that Kindy wore 11 in the WHL because of Brendan Gallagher).

Ben gets to play with SidCros the whole season and sit next to him in the locker room. SidCros is described to have "Dad Energy" (put the website in reader mode to read (also I'd argue that SidCros is Mother)) and the whole team does feel like a family so they had a lot of fun this season. He hasn't been at any big events with SidCros, but he gets that kind of mentorship the whole season and theres no better way for a young player to come into the league, as he said (around 2:35).

Macklin is a generational talent, beloved by everyone (see the Olympic team). They play well together (I think, I know nothing about hockey) and Macklin gets to pick SidCros' brain (he also say's the very orange/light-red couch is pink, kinda concerning) when they do. SidCros also likes him and has nice things to say about him. Obviously at Worlds this year SidCros let Macklin keep the C (which I'm sure was a hilarious conversation) (also coming over to play Worlds when you could be resting after Playoffs (because you're 38?), I think he likes playing with Macklin), and they played some nice games together and had (as the Swiss commentators would say) excessive Ipad use during the games. (Also them cheesing at each other after Sid's goal was gold.)

Porter played with SidCros the World Championships in both 2025 (i was not a hockey fan then, idk what happened) and 2026 (i lived this one, Switzerland not winning wrecked me). He was drafted to the Flyers in 2025, so when they play each other in the NHL it's very intense (esp playoffs) but they seemed to get along well at Worlds. They played on the same line for some of it and it was a bit surreal for Porter, as SidCros was his childhood hero. Apparently Sid can get over his Flyers hate if it's a child/(his sons bf)/for Canada.

So it really is the Sidney Crosby thing from all angles because you get as a mentor (Kindy and Mack), a teammate (all of them at some point, Kindy at all times), an opponent (Marty and Mack) and a hockey legend to aspire to (all three of them). (And also a looming presence over the Kintone relationship because that is his baby and what is the Flyer doing here.)

Macklin really is a SidCros daughter, like genetically. (For more SidCros-Mack relationship, watch this interview)

SidCros tries to figure out how to shovel talk Marty about Kindy and Mack at the same time without it becoming any weirder than necessary. He has a lot of things to say to that flyer, but he needs to structure it because he can't go around scaring the crap out of young players, that wouldn't be very SidCros-like of him and they do need to be able to play together at Worlds. It's all peace, joy, pancakes under the maple leaf (or whatever you say in English).

I think SidCros delivers the Kindy-Shoveltalk when he first arrives at worlds. The Kintone thing is very prominent on his mind, and he needs to say something because he needs a clear head to play well. He had planned to give the Mack-Shoveltalk later, but he's on a roll now so he just goes on with "talking about not hurting feelings, don't you dare do that to Macklin". He's for sure telling Porter that he'll keep a close eye on him, so now Marty feels like he's under constant observation. This is not the kind of attention he wanted from SidCros, but you get what you get.

I love a protective mama bear Sid, like, those are his kids and he's protecting them with everything he has.

I'd argue that macklin has a littel bit less of the wet eyes, be-cheeked look and has lost some of his cheekes since entering the nhl

both michael and macklin have more (proven) hockey chemistry with marty, which I'm basing this on. Other chemistry I can conjure up for all of them. Also Macklin's eyes carry tragedy well (as we can see) but i wouldn't really describe them as particularily wet.

Cheesing at each other, sitting next to each other, playing (good) hockey (with SidCros). There's also the video of them walking (with Sam and someone else) through Zurich (? I think?), and the team on the Jungfraujoch, where they're sort of next to each other.

So if we broaden the harem description to (hockey) chemistry, I feel like Mack's definitely a part of it. Like I said, he doesn't quite fit the physical descriptions but he doesn't not fit them, so I'd say it's acceptable. Also, there's no one with cheeks quite like Kindy's.

first of all, i watch that clip a lot, so one more time is nothing, but also literal excerpt out of my ideas document:

Ben presents at some point before the 2024 USA CHL Prospects Challenge. He's an omega, but he's determined to not let that sway him from any of his goals. He's still a damn good hockey player and he will make it to th NHL.

At the Prospects Challenge he feels weirdly drawn to the (still unpresented) Porter Martone, but the guy's his captain and projected top pick in the draft, so it's not particularily weird that Ben wants to be in his vicinity. Porter presents after the Prospects Challenge, but 18 is a normal age to present, nothing weird about it. (He's an alpha btw, if that wasn't clear)

At the draft, they don't really meet. They're in each others vicinity from time to time, sure, but everyone is wearing heavy duty scent blockers, running purely on adrenaline and also they have things to do. They don't meet again afterwards until they play each other in the playoffs.

NHL players are only mandated to apply scent blockers at the start of the game. Of course, players are welcome to reapply as much as they want, but it's completely their choice. The scent blockers get worn down by sweat (even the heavy duty stuff) so by the end of the game, there's a lot more scents flying around than at the begining but it's all one soup of scents.

Except for when you fight someone one-on-one and even initiate skin-to-skin contact. It makes your opposing players scent much more present, in a way. So when Ben's omega suddenly begins to scream 'Mate' inside of him when Porter rips at his helmet he just gets more angry, because Why is his life like this? And who does this guy think he is?. And Porter's alpha also tells him 'Mate', but his supposed mate is currently trying to punch him in the face and he won't stand for that, the alpha inside him be damned.

Ben goes through a breakthrough heat afterwards (it's like 12h long and they have an off-day anyways, it's fine) but he won't tell anyone why. He knows exactly why but he's prepared to take it to his grave. He's not gonna have a soulmate on the Flyers, they can wait with that until they retire.

Porter goes into breakthrough rut. He tries to play it off as shit happens, you know but he spills after 36h because he's a yapper and likes to use Denver Barkey as his soundboard. They both don't know what would be the right thing to do in this situation, so they just carry on as if nothing happened.

(I love suzufield, it's definitely one of my comfort ships because, like natecale, i can genuinely be chill about them.)
