George Spence's WORKING MODEL Spence owned an architectural precast concrete plant outside of Atlanta for about 40 years and, in an economic dip, built his own precast concrete house inspired by Corbusier's Villa Savoie, with ramps, elevator, and roof decks. The model his architect made became a communication tool with the precast plant: "The plant office and setup crews were struggling to understand how the pieces all fit together, so I picked up the model from Jack [the structural engineer] and placed it in the plant manager’s office to help them visualize the design. They would find the piece on the model and mark it with the panel number. It was a tremendous help to them in understanding the geometry of the structure."
