yo! I saw you ask Kay-spider about what ships/poly ships they were into and I’m curious so I’m turning the question back on you! What’s your shipping chart like? (Note: literal chart is not required lol)

dude you have no idea how excited i am to answer this question OKAY SO-

I'm a HUGE multi-shipper so I think if we did ships AND poly ships I would be here all day. I'm gonna focus on just poly ships for now since that's what I asked Kay-spider about.

Analogince

Got to be the poly ship I rotate in my head the most. They just have such a symbiotic relationship to me. Roman and Virgil help elevate Logan's experience of life, bringing the passion and emotion. Virgil and Logan help Roman slow down, appreciate the smaller things in life. Logan and Roman help Virgil stay calm, not sweat the little things and stay hopeful. They're perfectly balanced to me.

I also think they are a great balance of "love just existing in each others company" and "constantly get into hyjinks". Between watching Roman and Virgil be a duo in FWSA and all of Logan's detective shenanigans, I think the three of them would make a great dumber-together detective team, solving mysteries sitcom style.

2. Intrumoceit / Moceitmus

I actually started shipping them bc of a post by @belovedroach! (Everyone go check them out their art is so cool.) Anyways I wasn't that into the moceit hype upon re-joining the fandom but this ship made it all click for me. There's just so many possibilities for their dynamic.

Two hyperactive adult men and their long-suffering boyfriend. Two cartoon villains and a man who's trying desperately to rehabilitate them. Chaste philosophical debate husbands and the guy who wants to fuck them so bad he looks stupid. Doesn't matter how you slice it, their dynamic is fascinating to me.

3. LAMP

Literally what else am I supposed to say. She's the goat. She's a classic. She's everything. Star of LAOFT, Powerless and some of the most popular soulmate aus this fandom has. My phone password for 7 years.

I genuinely don't even know how to describe why I love LAMP bc it's just so obvious to me. They're litterally so well balanced that they make up a whole person. She's everything to me.

4. Intruloceit

Okay this is like the opposite of Analogince to me. Instead of calming each other down they all make each other worse. Worst polycule you know type shit.

When Janus and Logan have each other's support they don't feel like they have to be as tough on Remus, which just leads to a cycle of enabling. Remus is motive Logan is means Janus is opportunity type shit. I like to imagine them all posed up around a single throne staring evilly at you.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Anaroceit

With Anaroceit there's a very specific dynamic I like where they're all down bad but refuse to admit it. In my head, Janus and Virgil are both in situationships with Roman and they've both convinced themselves he'll never like them as equal partners. So they bond over their misery while Roman agonizes over bringing romantic feelings into his relationships with these two very hot men that he doesn't want to lose.

I genuinely really love anaroceit, I just don't often publicly interact with it because I'm VERY picky about their dynamic lol.

Analomus / Intruanalogical

Another one I am very particular about only because the Virgil characterization has to be so specific. This polycule doesn't make sense to me unless Virgil has a more jaded, pre-aa attitude. There was some bullet fic I read once where Virge/Logan/Remus were dark sides and Jan/Roman/Patton were light sides and THAT was when it really clicked.

They aren't my favorite but when it's done well I think it's absolutely delicious. Type of couple that argues as foreplay.

And those are my takes! I LOVE poly shipping, and I was so stoked that so many people were still into it in the fandom revival. Thanks for the ask!

Janus…. Remus… God how did it come to this? I spent so long trying to hide them away from Thomas, to protect Thomas from them, but the latest interactions with them just has my heart beating, butterflies in my stomach. It used to be so black and white, but now there’s so much grey area. What would the others think. Sure Janus wasn’t so bad anymore, and he’s proved that he’s trustworthy enough, but Remus as well? Just thinking about them has me smiling.

“Patton? Are you okay? You just stopped in the middle of baking?” Roman asked me. I had been spending quality time with him, Virgil and Logan as none of them were happy with Thomas accepting Thomas.

“Sorry Roman. I got lost in thought. Can you put the cupcakes on? I have to go do something,” I asked him. He agreed and I quickly left the kitchen, going to the dark mindscape.

I knocked on the walls, hoping they’d hear me.

“Oooo what’s innocent, little Morality doing here?” A squeaky voice cackled.

“Remus. Janus. Can you show yourselves?” I asked them, taking a deep breath. I had to be brave.

Soon enough, both of them were in front of me. Remus had blood on him and his morning star, Janus looked bored, and in his usual outfit, minus the caplet.

“What do you want?” Jan snarled, almost glaring at me.

“I have to get something off my chest,” I told them, being completely serious.

“Oh, please fuck, please be your shirt,” The green, blood covered side pleaded, his fingers crossed.

“Uh, no. It’s not my shirt. I have come to the realisation that I have a crush on both of you. I know that it probably won’t happen, but I just wanted to let you both know,” I told them, trembling slightly.

“Oh. Ha, I thought this would be something serious. But instead it’s some… petty crush,” Janus laughed. “Remus and I are already dating.”

“But-” Remus quickly added on, “Polyamory is an option, and… fucking you would be fun. And then we can have an orgy.”

“What Remus is trying to say, is that we totally don’t like you as well.”

“So what do you say Pattycakes? Wanna date us?”

“Yes! Yes, oh, this went so much better than I thought,” I spoke happily, quickly hugging Janus, going to hug Remus before pausing. “Um, maybe you should clean up first.”

“Eh, who cares? Let’s go celebrate,” Remus chirped, grabbing mine and Janus’ wrists before dragging us to his room. This would be fun. I hope Roman could handle the cupcakes.

The entire school had mixed feelings about Janus Sanders.

Some students loved him - he had somehow gained access to the answers to almost all tests, and it was easy enough to persuade him to share: only money, valuables or secrets. And there weren't many students who didn't have one of the three.

Some teachers loved him, too, completely fooled by his charming persona and near-perfect test scores. Few knew the truth, and none could find enough evidence to get any accusations to stick.

Most people thought he was charming and quite the flatterer. Others found him pretentious and deceitful.

His friends called him all of the above.

And everyone knew that he had a thing with Remus Duke. The specific nature of the 'thing' was unclear, though Remus's brash personality and inability to lie meant it had hardly been a secret for long: unlike every other aspect of Janus Sanders' life.

The entire school did not have mixed feelings about Remus Sanders.

He was crude and aggressive, and most did not like him. Only the bold and uncaring vocalised their feelings, though, as Remus was unafraid of violence and detention.

The entire school did not have mixed feelings about Patton Foster, either.

He was sweet and kind to anyone and everyone who wasn't unkind to someone else first. Bullies and bigots were excluded from his cookies and friendship bracelets, of course, which made the rest of the school like him even more.

He was a cheerleader, too, and had somehow gotten all of the popular girls to immediately befriend and adore him.

And anyone stupid enough to talk badly about Patton behind his back ended up with a broken nose and spilled secrets before they could even finish speaking.

It was a miracle that no one - other than their closest, closest friends - had realised how wholly and utterly smitten Janus and Remus were with Patton Foster. And that they were already prepared to do anything for him.

When Patton walked around the corner, entering the hallway that Janus and Remus were stood in, the couple immediately went silent, their eyes landing on him. He did not notice, and instead started up a conversation with the group of people stood closest to him.

Roman laughed, clapping his hand on his twin's back.

"Aww, you two are smitten!" He cooed.

Janus immediately turned to glare and hiss at him. "Shut up!"

Virgil snorted, and Janus then turned his glare on him, too. Remus sighed dreamily, completely unaware of the tension beside him.

"Do you think he's a good kisser?"

Roman wrinkled his nose. "Ew! I don't want to think about my brother and my dear friend kissing. That is atrocious! You silence, right now, peasant."

"If you keep making fun of our crush on Patton, I will kiss your brother on the mouth, right now and right in front of you," Janus said.

"So you admit to your crush on Patton?" Virgil added.

Roman seemed unaware of that comment, and instead gasped overdramatically, his hand over his heart.

"Excuse me? You dare blackmail me, right now, right in front of everybody?"

Logan cleared his throat. "Actually that is a threat, not blackmail. You should use the correct vocabulary, Roman."

"Exactly," Janus said.

"And neither is good!" Roman exclaimed.

Before Janus could respond to that, his eyes returned to Patton as the cheerleader finally noticed him and Remus. Patton beamed instantly, lifting his hand and waving to them excitedly.

Remus immediately waved back, and Janus lifted his hand and waved, too.

"Wow," Remus said. "I want him. I want to kiss him."

Janus hummed in agreement.

So I’ve mentioned the Garden Au in my last two drawings and I feel as though I should expand.

So here’s a character list!

Roman — Monarch Butterfly:

Born in a researches back yard as a tiny green larva. Never knew his mother.

Met Remus an hour after he hatched and because neither of them know their moms, decided they were brothers.

Gathers milkweed for the local monarch community.

Has always dreamed of traveling but can’t leave the garden/won’t leave his brother

The himboest of himbos, has flown into multiple windows

His flock was an experiment on chrysalis and the habits of monarchs

The only one actually supposed to be in the garden

Remus — Ringed octopus

Now you may be wondering, what’s an octopus doing in someone’s backyard? And why isn’t he the same species as Roman?

Because an octopus somehow being in a backyard pond where it definitely isn’t supposed to be radiates Remus energy that’s why

The researcher had brought in an octopus without realizing that she had a baby.

Baby fell out of the tank and into the backyard pond.

When he woke up he started crying, which is when Larva Roman found him.

When Roman went into Crysalis, Remus was alone for months. He ended up becoming friends with some other creatures who Roman definitely doesn’t approve of.

Virgil — Southern Black Widow Spider

One of Remus’ “dangerous” friends

Roman doesn’t approve because spiders eat bugs! Including butterflies!

Virgil won’t eat butterflies because “bright color = poison”.

It’s not until they realize that they aren’t going to kill each other that they become friends

Met Remus after he fell out of his web into the pond and Remus saved him from drowning

Has no other family so he’s very protective

Remus likes watching him web up flies

Incredibly territorial. Mainly because the other spiders are v destructive

Can you tell I don’t like spiders

Janus — Rainbow Boa Constrictor

So you know how a bunch of Boas ended up in Florida because they kept being dumped in the Everglades after people didn’t want them anymore? Janus is one of those snakes.

Doesn’t like humans after the last one dumped him in front of an alligator

Bonded with Remus immediately because neither of them are where they are supposed to be

Almost ate Virgil out of desperation until he noticed that Virgil is very very venomous.

Their relationship is symbiotic. Virgil helps catch mice and crickets. Janus offers protection.

Finds Remus’ “brother” to be annoying and too colorful. Tolerates him at most

But he has an eye out for a particular slimy critter (maybe two slimy critters)

Patton — Green Tree Frog

This is Janus’ and Remus’ crush. He’s amphibious so best of both worlds!

Acts as a messenger for the backyard critters, warning them of danger and updating them with news.

His staff is a stick with a crystal on top. The crystal seems to have some kind of power. After all, a frog can’t possibly be that fast right?

Has known the brothers since childhood. Baby Remus met him when he was just a lil tadpole. Remus was happy to have a swimming buddy that wasn’t scared of him.

Roman was just happy to have a friend that wasn’t totally insane.

Has many many many siblings. They are also messengers.

They are constantly on the lookout for a certain foe

Logan — Great Blue Heron

That’s right, Logan is the antagonist

Owned and trained by the researcher

Keeps test animals inside and backyard animals outside.

Also keeps an eye out for critters that aren’t supposed to be in the yard

Aka Remus and Janus

Widely disliked by the ecosystem

I was going to make him a raven but there are none in Florida so the more you know

Remus’ competitor as he often fishes in the pond

Asexual and Aromantic

Never knew his family or any other animals so he doesn’t understand feelings or empathy. Ended up numb to his own emotions.

Disliked and distrusted by everyone because of who he works for

Don’t worry he gets redeemed

The Researcher

Primary Villian

Owns a massive house with a massive backyard.

Has dedicated his life to researching animals

Started innocently enough but he ended up losing something he loved and then turned to insanity

His work went from research to experiments as he was determined to discover everything there is to know about Floridian animals

His experiments are downright cruel and disturbing but he is good at keeping it secret from his assistant

The Garden creatures (which I’m now calling the Gardeners) don’t trust him and are terrified of him, but most of them were born there and can’t exactly leave due to a certain Heron.

Roman can’t leave bc he’s part of an experiment, Remus won’t leave his brother, Janus has no other home, Patton was born there, and Virgil has no other family

Older fellow so he hired an assistant to take care of his garden

Thomas — the assistant/gardener

Kind man, adores all creatures wholeheartedly.

Works part time for the Researcher and takes care of his creatures and his garden

Doesn’t realize how real and human these creatures are

Basically, humans see them as animals, but the animals see each other like people

Remember Patton’s crystal?

Thomas finds it and ends up becoming the kids from “Grounded”.

Aka, shrunk down to the size of an ant

That’s my plot line and I’m sticking to it

Dexter is peacefully reading his newest case study print out, twirling a highlighter between his fingers as he concentrates. The couch in Remus’s swanky new apartment, he’d found, was the best place to hit that perfect balance of comfort and workability, and he’s been taking full advantage of it since he’d arrived for the weekend the previous morning. 

Remus is currently out picking Patton up from his gym session so they can grab their usual uber-healthy groceries and sneak some junk food from whatever fast food place they pass on the way home. He pretends not to know about their sneakiness because he hasn’t the heart to ruin their childish glee. It can be hard being the only mature one sometimes, but the payoff is usually worth it. 

He glances at the clock, wondering where they are when the car pulls up to outside. Being on the first floor had its advantages and Dex liked it most for spying on people. Well, Patton called it watching the world go by, but Dex preferred spying. It just sounded cooler. 

So maybe he was a little childish too, at heart. 

The door opens and he looks up to greet his boyfriend and his… sort of also boyfriend, only to be confronted by what looks to have been a hurriedly discussed idea. 

Remus steps in first, making and holding eye contact and holding his hands up. Dex can’t understand why until Remus starts sidestepping and making claws with his hand like a crab, head going side to side. He makes his way through towards the couch where Dex is sat and Patton follows behind him doing the exact same thing, but stifling gusts of giggles. 

Dear Lord in heaven give him the strength to put up with these incredible idiots…

They stop directly in front of him, and oh, great, Patton is doing some kind of plie now and Remus is just about managing to copy him despite his significantly lower level of flexibility. Dexter raises an eyebrow at them and puts aside the highlighter and papers, clasping his hands in his lap and sitting forwards to very seriously say, “I love you, but please stop whatever it is that you’re doing.”

Remus immediately opens his mouth and starts chanting, “All hail the mighty crab king” and Patton joins in with him. Despite how it looks Dex is about ninety-nine percent sure Patton was the instigator here. He may look cute as a button but he is often just a bundle of repressed shenaniganery and antics. Remus is a willing and doting follower of most of these plans, and had often taken the fall for some of Patton’s wilder ideas, but since Dex learned the truth he’s mostly forgiven Remus for his part in all of the weirdness he has to put up with. 

Patton on the other hand- well. Dexter reaches out suddenly and grabs Patton by the waist, pulling him into his lap to exact sweet revenge through the medium of tickles. “I’ll show you crab king! Feel the wrath of my crabby claws, peasant!” He crows and Patton gasps for mercy between laughter. 

Remus jumps into the fray to Patton’s rescue and the peacefulness of the spot is entirely lost. No more focusing for Dexter today, but he never minds. Not once.
