I still love seeing comments and replies either there or here, even if I might not respond very fast (if at all, my b!).

~A brief 2024 update~

Hello, it's me, Magpie!

It's been a long while since I was here, writing all these little stories. In the time since I moved fandoms, several jobs, wrote a lot of long and much more mature stories (thanks to the old guard and associated marinelliverse properties), and then had an extended break from writing.

Now I'm back, in the Dead Boy Detectives fandom, over on my new sideblog @magpiemarten. Feel free to come join me there if you're also a fan, while I'm getting back into the swing of things, or just read along on AO3.

I've been so glad over the years to see people still reading my old ficlets, enjoying them, rereading and commenting and kudosing. It's a real joy to look back, and see what I achieved and what I've grown from.

Maybe I'll see you on the other blog, but if not, have as good a 2024 as you can.

Is it true that aspiring writers should first write for themselves?

Aspiring writers should write. I don't think it matters much who they're writing for as long as they're writing. And if they do that, then pretty soon they stop aspiring and just become writers.

Logan and Remus being touch starved Logan isn't a very cuddly person so no one actually thinks he cares, but he hugs his pillow tightly every night in hope of getting rid of this aching feeling that he doesn't understand. Remus being disgusting and stinky to the point that no one would actually touch him. He even tried to rub his skin with soap hard enough to the point of blood trying to be at least enough for a hug. It took so many years for the sides to notice their suffering.

For the prompts thingy: touch starved Remus? Fluff would be preferred but if you want to rip my heart out of my chest that’s cool too - anon

I didn’t manage to include Logan being touch-starved into this other than a throwaway mention unfortunately, you may have to imagine that part!

Warnings: touch starvation, isolation, quarantine/coronavirus mention, negative self-image, obsessive behaviours/slight self-harming behaviours.

Patton and his friends go on a camping trip together. The thing is though, a certain otherworldly being takes a specific interest in Patton... even if Patton can't understand him.

This story's cute and strange and just a lot of fun to read. I keep wanting to go back and write a companion part myself, but after being sidelined for a while because of my wrist, I have some WIPs to catch up on before I can do that. The author has a ton of work up related to sanders sides that's worth checking out too.

So Roman and Patton, where Patton’s a human, and Roman’s a tiny mer. But there’s a language barrier, because mer can’t make human sounds, and humans can’t easily differentiate between mer sounds. Because of this, most humans don’t recognize mer as sentient, since they can’t communicate. I was thinking it’d be really cool to have a story where they try to communicate, even though it’s difficult, and make some sort of way of doing it, maybe through sign language, or writing, or something.

Since I am not currently writing for this fandom I’m going to post up the prompts in my inbox and send them out into the world!
