I've found that there are more creeps at anime conventions than at comic cons. There are also more weirdos at anime cons. Anime cons are kinda the reason why I'm not into anime so much anymore

“Anime” con tends to draw in the weeaboo/tumblr audience of teenaged idiots. Anime is cheap, if not free, so the audience doesn’t have a monetary investment in it. When these idiots (who generally have no social skills and spend hours in mommy’s basement streaming anime) get together, it’s not pretty. At my hotel, we take more grief from these over-entitled snotty kids than we do anyone else. There are tons of stories I need to write up from this year’s con and they all center on the teenage/college group. Because these people don’t fucking understand consequences or just the concept of being NICE to people.

“Comic” cons often host an older crowd because comics are fucking expensive as shit. Most people who collect comics are working adults who can afford their comic habit. Working adults know how to behave in public and how to treat front end employees. So, there are less creeps.

what about people cosplaying as video game characters? also, would somebody be kicked out for accidentally looking like harry potter? how about comic book characters? is everyone who is in cosplay kicked out of disney world? what if someone just so happened to be wearing a homestuck shirt and had hair to match the character? would that unfortunate accidental cosplayer be arrested as well? i need to know.

For the 1000th time, because you people won’t read the blog or search the damn tags, here’s an answer from a Disney CM.

Basically, a Homestuck t-shirt and wig won’t bother them, but a Harry Potter robe would probably cause problems.

What tips do you have for a somewhat low-functioning autistic person for conventions? I really want to make new friends and talk to people but I don't really know how.

Submit Anon: Idiot Broke My Cosplay

I was at my hotel checking in before the convention, and had carefully set my costume in an unused corner; literally no doorways or other reasons for anyone to go anywhere near it. As I’m in line, I catch out of the corner of my eye some manchild (aged between 16-20 if I had to guess) run and JUMP on my costume, breaking it to the point it was unusable. He then ran off, and what I assume was his mother came over and hastily apologized, claiming he had autism (I’m skeptical, and even if that were true it’s not a free pass to trash people’s stuff).

I spent around 5 months, well over a hundred hours, and at best guess around $300 in materials on this costume. Ruined, couldn’t wear it at all. No offer to even pay for the damage.

I was in shock and didn’t actually react at all (my friend had to help me sit down, she says I was pale as a ghost). By then mommy and her special snowflake had disappeared. I asked the hotel for their contact info but they refused. Even if it was a privacy thing, shouldn’t they have called the police or kicked them out of the hotel? They wouldn’t help at all except to offer me a free breakfast, which really doesn’t fix my costume.

What can/should I do (or have done)? Is there a way to force the hotel to give their contact info, as I’d seriously consider suing them for the damages. I had no costume all weekend and had to walk around in street clothes, through no fault of my own.

I’d love any helpful advice or suggestions. No rush, I still have 11 and a half months before I get another chance to costly.

MOD A ANSWER: The hotel will not release someone’s personal information to you, but if you file a police report, they could release it to the police. (Depends). Anon, you can always call the cops--never assume that the hotel will, because unless someone is trashing hotel property, they probably won’t. The last thing management wants is cop cars out front. It doesn’t make for good publicity, y’know.

If you can get a name for the offending parties through the police, I say file a small claims case against them. Heck, you could try to drag them onto Judge Judy or something and let us all see what a douche the guy was.

I'm going to Disney soon so like I'm not allowed to cosplay (hiro Hamada) down there right cause they have a rule or something?

That’s right. If you are on an adult park ticket you cannot wear a costume in the parks.
