Keith rounded the corner in the apartment, coming to a stop quickly when he found who he was looking for. Impatiently, he crossed his arms and let out a sharp sigh through his nose, drawing the attention from his partner. They looked up at him in confusion, setting their phone aside. “Something wrong?”
“Something wrong?” He repeated, raising his eyebrows. “Did you seriously ask me that?”
His partner narrowed their eyes, still not moving from the couch. “Well, considering you came stomping in here, I feel like it’s a valid question.” Keith only glared harder, so they continued, “Did something happen?”
“Did something happen?”
“Is there an echo in here?”
Keith threw his hands in the air. “I’ll tell you what’s wrong! You ignoring me for the past week and running around with Lance at night is what’s wrong!”
Keith continued into the room, still gesturing angrily while he walked. “You come back to our room so late, you never tell me what you’re doing, Lance looks at me like I’m some pitiable idiot, and on top of it all, you’ve been ignoring me!”
They remained silent on the couch, eyes wide during the whole rant. Keith’s angry steps had taken him so he was only a few feet away, just beyond the coffee table. He held his hands out, “Well?”
They put their hand in front of their mouth, saying quietly, “Keith, it’s nothing.”
“It’s obviously not nothing if you’re keeping something from me!” He countered. “We said we weren’t going to keep secrets, especially after everything that’s happened!”
“Keith, I–”
“Just tell me what’s going on with you and Lance!” He finally shouted, voice breaking on his name. He ducked his head, trying to get his breathing to slow down. He had been so paranoid, but they had convinced him it was nothing, and now here it was again, his worst fears come to light–
“Keith, listen to me.”
He looked up at the sound of their voice, dark eyes searching theirs. They reached out, taking one of his hands. “Look. Sometimes, lying is the right thing to do, and that’s why I lied to you.”
Keith’s heart dropped. Oh god, this was it, this was everything he had never wanted to hear–
“–And that’s why I didn’t tell you about the surprise party.”
Keith paused.
Keith waited.
Their face slowly spread into a grin.
Keith thought about it.
The late nights with Lance, the way everyone but Shiro gave him odd, laughable looks, the way even Allura seemed to be keeping a joke, the weird influx of baking from Hunk, the ungodly decorations he had caught Coran unearthing last night–
“A surprise party?!”
“Well can you blame me?” They laughed, leaning back on the couch. “You’re a terrible liar, you never would have been able to keep it from Shiro!”
“I–I just–What?!” Keith shook his head. “I was all worked up over that?!”
“You do tend to overthink things,” they grinned, then pulled him down onto the couch, wrapping their arms around him. “Come on, admit it, it’s funny.”
Keith grumbled something decidedly rude, burying his burning face in their shoulder. Definitely not funny. Not at all.

-first off, DYED RED HAIR. he’d 100% think that was attractive and wonderful even though he would never ever admit it. (except eventually, he’d be like “y’know…is the red hair because of me?” im dying this poor cutie) also he would loooove love love looking at your green eyes!! after being in the desert for so long, i’m sure seeing green things brings him just a lil more inner peace!
