even longer answer from the last ask (realized i'm assuming basic knowledge about how ringing works. if you are unaware, you can look for it on my blog!):
this is how it works here, and is def not universal, but we have three levels of licence: C, B, and A (and also trainee, which is a precursor). You start off by taking a ringing course, which takes 2-3 days and happens twice a year. In the course, there's time dedicated to theory, and you start with the basics - the basic anatomy of a bird, how to recognise birds in the field etc etc. there's also time dedicated to field work - you get to practice how to open and close nets, and you come to a ringing to get your first taste of taking a bird out of the net. However, you don't learn the part of the *ringing itself*, that comes much later.
After this course, you are considered a trainee, and can open/close nets and release birds from the nets, under general supervision from the head ringer. at the beginning you are still supervised in the field as well, but that is mostly until you get confidence and there's no specific time when this stops. it mostly depends on the head ringer of the day.
After you have taken 300 birds out of the net, you are eligible for a C licence. This can take anywhere from 6 months to a couple of years, depending on how often you come to the ringing. This will allow you to do the actual ringing, again with supervision. there's no test, it's mostly about catching one of the (nice) ringers and asking them to show you the ropes. at first they're going to be double checking your measurements and everything, but after a while you are trusted to just ring alongside them.
Next level is a B license, which requires ringing 2000 birds, from 80 different species, passing a written test and a field inspection, having at least 2 years pass since your C licence, and (I believe) being above 18. This allows you to be a head ringer aka being in charge of the ringing (this, btw, is the only position where you are getting paid. Everything else is voluntary). Here you are in charge not only on the birds, but also the volunteers and guiding guests, so it’s a big responsibility that not everyone is interested in.
Lastly, there is the A license. I believe there technically *are* specific requirements for this, but generally it’s more of a “when you’re ready” thing. There are very few A license ringers (I want to say 10-20, but I’m not sure), and the only one who can attest to you being eligible is another A ringer. This level allows you to be a “ring owner,” aka you basically have a permit to ring wherever you want whenever you want. You need an A license in order to conduct a field ringing or be the head of a ringing center.
I think that’s pretty much it, feel free to ask anymore questions!
this might be difficult because they did the graphics on those fat fucks called "geese" quite good, but perhaps you can find some anyhow? If you're not sure what a goose is I can give you a link to the bestiary?
oh, they did do the graphics on them spectacularly, but I was still able to find a few bugs!
hope I figured out what a goose is, though feel free to correct me 😊

Hello! I hope this doesn't bother you, if it does, please ignore! But. May I ask what achillean means? :0
of course, no bother at all!
Achillean is a term that is similar to mlm (men-loving-men) but has less of an insinuation on the gender of the person. It's the guy equivalent of sapphic, if that helps!
According to LGBTA wiki, it means " man or man-aligned person who is attracted to other men or man-aligned people."
I personally use it to signify that my attraction to men is tied to my genderqueer identity, and my connection to boy-hood :)
Hey Deer! Not a request, just checking on you to make sure you’re well.
Hey there!
First of all, thank you for asking!
I'm well, or actually, better then well. I'm great!
Truth is, things have being doing so well for me, that I just can't find time to dedicate to this blog. I'm really busy, and probably only going to get busier. So it's good for me, but for the blog not so much.
Though I'm not gonna abandon it just yet! I still hope to be back here soon.
In the meantime, I'm way more active on my bird blog @tomodachibirb! And of course you can always find me on my main @devotedlyrainbowcollector.
