"I said STOP!"
The clearing went quiet, and Sunny and Kel looked over at Basil.
Basil was shaking, and crying. Sunny's eyes widened and his ears drooped even further. Kel glanced between the two of them, not sure what to do.
"Basil, I- I'm sorry…" Sunny took a step closer to Basil, and he flinched. He stepped back.
Basil shook his head and stood.
"I- I just- I can't- you-"
"Basil-"
Basil flinched again and ran, heading into the forest and away from them.
Kel stood there, glancing from the direction Basil had gone to Sunny, standing frozen a few feet away from him.
Shit.
What now?
"We- we have to find him." Kel looked over at Sunny, who was looking at him now. "He could run into something in the forest, esp- especially with his- emotional state."
"Okay- which way do you think he would've gone?"
Kel nodded slowly, processing everything, and how weird Sunny was acting.
"This is taking so LONG!" Kel sighed, kicking a rock in front of him. "Are you sure we're going the right way?"
Sunny looked down, tapping his foot. "Hm.. I have an idea. Let's go."
•••
Sunny glared at him, and Kel cheered internally at the familiar look. "Yes, I'm sure. Calm down."
"Ugh, fine." Kel sighed, glancing at Sunny again. "It just feels like we're never gonna get there at this rate, and I'm getting tired, but whatever I guess-"
"Will you please shut up!?" Kel jumped as Sunny's eyes flashed even redder, and his fists clenched. He stopped for a second, and sighed, rubbing his arms. "No, wait. Sorry. Snapping at you won't help right now. Just- stop complaining. It's not helping."
"Here it is!"
Kel nodded and followed along quietly, disconcerted.
•••
Kel snapped back into the moment, following Sunny as he sprinted through some trees.
They came into a clearing and Kel sighed in relief when Basil was there.
He was sitting on a rock, arms wrapped around his legs and curled into himself. He was shaking, and there were flowers surrounding him.
"Basil!" He said, and Basil flinched, looking up at them.
Sunny moved forward some, his hands held out in front of him.
"Basil, I- I'm sorry… we shouldn't have started arguing like that." He said, and Basil pulled closer into himself.
"Y- you've really been sca-scaring me lately, Sunny." Kel heard Basil mumble, and Sunny froze.
"Wh- what?"
"Yo- you've been so- so weird lately and i- it's been scaring me. I- I didn't kn- know how to say-" Basil cut off with a yelp and fell, and Kel ran forward when he saw a hand wrapped around his friend's ankle.
"Basil!"
Kel and Sunny both moved back when the thing that grabbed Basil came into view, a giant demon coming to stand in front of them.
"Now what do we have here?"
