Amber woke with a pained gasp. She stared wide eyed at the cave ceiling as she gulped down breaths of air, her heart pounding a mile a minute. It was dark—only the dying glow of the simmering campfire illuminated the otherwise pitch-black cave, and Amber hugged herself tightly, the darkness swallowing her whole and crushing deep into her bones.
She barely registered her surroundings. The cave walls kept closing in on her, the sharp outlines of the hanging stalactites becoming blurred. Still struggling to breathe, she pinched her eyes closed tightly, trying to focus on her breathing—in, out, in out.
“Hey,” a muffled voice called out to her. “Am—ber. Can you—”
In. Out. In. Out. In—
“Amber!”
Amber’s eyes shot open when a large, warm hand grasped at her shoulder. The hand on her shoulder gave a tight squeeze, and the sensation was enough to ground her—just a little.
She blinked a few times until Coda’s sharp features peaked through the darkness. She tried to open her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. It was like her mouth had been stuffed full of dry cotton balls.
“Shit, uh,” Coda fumbled. “Hey. Just breathe, okay? Like this.” He made a show of taking a slow, deep breath in before letting it out in a shaky exhale.
Amber mimicked the motion, albeit clumsily with her still frenzied breathing. Coda continued to coach her through it, but it was his frazzled demeanor that slowly brought her back to reality. It was somehow calming to see Coda almost as worked up as she was.
When Coda was sure Amber could breathe on her own, he leaned over towards his sleeping bag to rummage through his messenger bag. He pulled out a half-drunk water bottle, lukewarm from a day’s worth of travel, but still better than nothing. He unscrewed the lid before gently holding it up to her lips.
“Drink this,” he instructed. “Slowly.”
Amber closed her eyes as Coda tilted the bottle. He watched attentively as Amber wordlessly gulped down the water, panting slightly when he pulled the bottle away. He gently ran a thumb under her chin to wipe away an excess dribble of water.
“You’re okay,” he assured her, voice hushed in the quiet of the night. Allie was sleeping peacefully just a few feet away from them. “You’re safe now.”
Amber hesitantly glanced down at her sprawled legs, but relief soon washed over her face when she felt her toes wiggle.
“Did you… want to talk about it?” Coda asked, somewhat awkwardly. “Or did you want to try and go back to sleep?”
“... I’m sorry,” Amber finally spoke, her voice small and raspy. She hugged her knees to her chest. “It’s been a while since something like this happened, so I thought I would be okay, but…” Her voice trailed off as she looked around the cave. Her eyes soon found Allie, who was sleeping not far from them, her sleeping bag pulled up to her chin.
“Allie was right,” she finished, sounding miserable.
Earlier that evening, when it became apparent that the three wouldn’t be reaching the next town before dark and alternative sleeping arrangements needed to be made, Coda made the suggestion of holing up in a nearby cave to escape the impending rain. Allie had protested, and Amber meekly stood by as the two argued on the ideal place to sleep.
It wasn’t until Amber quietly agreed to Coda’s plan that Allie finally relented.
“No, I wasn’t thinkin’,” Coda said, voice laced in frustration. “I shouldn’t’ve–”
“It’s not your fault,” Amber interjected. “I—”
“Listen,” Coda said, interrupting Amber’s interruption. He placed both hands on her shoulders and gave her a firm look. Amber blinked owlishly back at him. “Just let me talk, okay?” Amber, stunned, could only nod in response. “It was my idea to sleep in this stupid cave. I was just tryin’ to look out for everyone, but all I did was make you…” He huffed and shook his head. “Y’know what? You should just hit me.”
“I couldn’t do that!” Amber said, mortified.
Coda sighed, dragging one of his hands from Amber’s shoulder down the length of her arm. She stiffened as he did so, her tension only rising when he grasped one of her hands and brought it to his face. He gently rapt her knuckles against his cheek.
“There,” he said, letting her hand drop. He still didn’t look satisfied.
Amber quickly snatched her hand away and frowned at him. “You’re being way too hard on yourself.” She rubbed gingerly over the knuckles that were just against Coda’s skin mere moments before. “I’m… I’m used to it, okay? It’s really not as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.”
“You shouldn’t be used to it,” Coda countered.
“I know,” Amber agreed quietly. “But I am. And… it’s probably going to happen again.” She lifted her head enough to offer Coda a small, feeble smile. “So the next time it does, will you be there for me again?”
Coda pressed his lips tightly together, clearly conflicted. He probably wanted to keep pushing her, but Amber could tell that her earnest request was enough to completely disarm him. He then let out a sigh, his shoulders sagging as he did so, and the back of his head thumped against the cave wall behind him.
“... Yeah,” he said. He lulled his head to face her, and despite everything, he offered her a tired smile. “Yeah. ‘Course.”
Anybody want a snippet of mouse-themed hunger fic? I have a few of these floating around, though I haven't managed to tie them up into a proper story yet.
(WARNING: this is capital-k KINK, so the situation does turn sexual near the end, in case you're not into that)
(Brain hasn't eaten all day because he's been too busy. When his concentration finally collapses, he somehow lets Pinky talk him into listening to his hungry tummy in bed.)
Pinky ran his little claws through the fur of Brain's tummy, directly over his stomach. Brain groaned, the touch only calling more attention to how hungry he felt.
"Well, you were perfectly happy to work through breakfast and lunch..." Pinky asked without stopping stroking and touching Brain's midsection. "How come it's only bothering you now, hmm?"
"Because you're making me lie here and think about it!" Brain pouted. "You've taken away whatever distractions I had, and you keep... teasing me..." He squirmed, his belly and cock both responding to the attention to an embarrassing degree.
Pinky grinned; he leaned in to whisper in Brain's ear, pressing his fingers into the empty softness of Brain's abdomen. "Deep dish pizza."
Brain gasped at the sudden, sharp ache that surged forth. His stomach begged loudly, and Pinky relished the depth of vibration under his palm.
"I can let you up to get something to eat, if you want. Or, I can just rub those hungry knots out for you... what do you think?" Pinky squeezed a palmful of Brain's tummy.
Brain swallowed. Up until now he'd been itching to put something in his stomach, but something about this strange game made him want to put it off. The attention, bizarre and embarrassing as it was, felt very good.
"I, uh... maybe a massage would be... nice?" He almost seemed surprised by his own answer.
"Want to watch some TV on the couch while I do that? I can put on something with lots of yummy food," Pinky beamed.
"You're too kind," Brain said flatly. Pinky helped him up off the bed, and walked him over to the doll-sized sofa they'd placed facing the TV.
Brain laid with his head against an armrest, and Pinky curled up alongside him. He laid his head on Brain's tummy for a moment, pleased to hear it churning away at nothing.
"Ooh, your poor tummy does need a rub. It's awfully worked up..."
Pinky worked the empty pocket slowly under the heel of his hand. The knot of hunger seemed to work loose a bit, but at the same time it made Brain's stomach rumble even more insistently than it had been.
Brain's head swam. He wasn't sure if this was helping or making him more hungry, but having his body manipulated this way by Pinky was... oddly thrilling.
As soon as Pinky stopped rubbing to listen again, the ache in Brain's core returned, so sharp and demanding that he couldn't help but moan a bit. Without thinking, he pressed Pinky's head into his belly as it growled again. "God, I'm starving..."
Pinky shivered, surprised but delighted by the sudden response from Brain. "Ohh, you ARE, aren't you love?"
He sat up to look at Brain. He lay there, a bit flushed, glassy-eyed and fully hard.
Pinky cocked an eyebrow. "Want to eat yet?"
"No," Brain answered earnestly. "I think I understand why you like this now... it's overwhelming, and distracting, and even painful to be denied this way, but... it's exhilarating. Needing something so badly, and... letting you decide when I get it... I don't know. It's very hot."
Pinky kissed Brain deeply, and Brain returned it with a drooling eagerness. Just tasting Pinky in his mouth was enough to make his stomach clench.
"I'm so glad you're enjoying it," Pinky said between breaths. "I knew you'd love it if I showed you how."
Brain's head lolled back onto the cushion. "Ohh... I don't know what happens to my mind when I'm with you... suddenly I can't think of anything except food and sex."
Brain's system was so confused, he did things that didn't make sense. He pressed his body closer to Pinky's, kissing him hungrily again, almost as though he thought Pinky's closeness would satisfy the empty ache within him. The warmth of their bodies almost felt like fullness, and it frustrated him.
"Mmm, I want foood," Brain moaned into Pinky's shoulder as he ground against his fur.
"Sure you don't need to stop?" Pinky stroked the back of Brain's head. He didn't want to push Brain beyond his limits, delicious though they were.
"N-no..." Brain answered, still rubbing himself into Pinky's abdomen. "I WANT to want food... I want you to make me want it... until I go crazy..."
Pinky held Brain tight to his body; Brain's stomach roared against his own, in a way that even left Pinky feeling a bit hungry. "Ohhh, you're so hungry it's contagious," he murmured, kissing Brain's savouring mouth again and again.
Pinky's stomach rumbled back into Brain's; Pinky smiled at him, squeezing their bellies tightly together. "You know, I missed lunch too, because I wanted to play with you... I think my tummy's really starting to miss it."
Brain groaned, more blood rushing to his crotch as Pinky's own hunger communicated itself to him. He swooned.

"When was the last time you had a drink, Tenzo?"
The question startled the ANBU operative for two reasons. One, this was such a random question from Kakashi, and two- but more importantly- Yamato was currently on a stealth patrol, and being snuck up on was not expected.
Immediately, Yamato glared at Kakashi. "Must you sneak up on me in the middle of patrol? I don't pop into your apartment and ask you random questions." He countered, to which Kakashi held his hands up in surrender.
"I just ask because I was removed from the ANBU before I could buy you your first. Call it a belated birthday celebration." Kakashi offered, giving the younger man a smile, which was only visible in his one uncovered eye.
Yamato considered the offer, before shaking his head. "Duty relief happens at nine. I'll meet you at the bar?" Before the question was even fully posed, Kakashi was already off, giving nothing more than a wave and an affirmative.
You have survived the attack on the Mechonis, on your home. You have survived the abandonment of life as you know it, the loss of normal traditions as Agniratha become a dead land.
You live out your life, working in a village hidden from ite or monitoring the Mechon on the world you once called home. You watch as debris and Homs alike fall and save what you can.
You may travel to Mechonis, to places once filled with life. You gather what you can, you swear to remember what it was like before Mechon swarmed everything.
You are greatful that most Mechon do not seem interested in attacking Machina. At least Egil has not turned on his own people, you think to yourself.
It's a sad life, living trying to hide. Trying to pretend you do not exist in order to survive.
You look up and you see the Bionis. A world surely full of life that thrives where it can, as happy a can be. A world that looks like nothing more than the rotting corpse of a monster that wanted your people dead.
You look up at the Bionis and you remember Meyneth's warning. That Zanza will return and restart what he began. That even hiding here may not be enough. You can see the Bionis, after all, who is to say it cannot see you?
You are a Machina, and every day you are faced with the threat of the end of your people.
((Mod wanted to so some story stuff but for some reason can’t get it down as a drawing.. So here it is in writtien form instead lmao. It’ll be under a cut because it’ll probably be pretty long))
Alex tugged at the end of his sleeves. He could feel his heart beating fast and heavy in his chest. They all wanted him to make amends. They were all expecting him to… But really, how could anyone forgive him for what he did..? He wanted to see Patryck again, he had always wanted to go back but… He was so scared. He could barely breathe whenever he just had the thought of going back. Of seeing Pat again. Of hugging him…
“Alex?” a voice called out for him, making him jump. For a second, he thought it was Patryck, but then his eyes settled on Tom, and the werewolf took a deep breath.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you,” Tom sat down on the ground next to Alex, “you just looked upset. Has Tord done something to you?”
Alex looked down into the dirt. His heart went even faster. How was he gonna tell Tom how he was feeling? He was gonna sound like an idiot. This was all stupid. Why was it so hard to talk to Patryck?? Pat was his brother after all!
“N.. No, it’s not… Tord…” he managed to say. His voice was raspy. More than usual. It was hard to talk since his thoughts were distracting him, but he didn’t want to be rude.
“Then what’s the matter? It’s alright, you can tell me, I won’t bite.” He smiled, showing his perfectly normal, flat teeth. Alex sighed and pulled in his sleeve again.
“It’s.. Patryck…” He pulled his shoulders up to his ears as if he was trying to hide “I want to go see him but I’m.. Scared”
Tom looked as if he was thinking. Alex sighed and looked away. If Tom, the most level headed person here, wasn’t even sure then what hope was there for Alex himself?
“What if I go with you?” Tom finally said. Alex looked over him, confused, and Tom chuckled.
“I can help explain everything, and tell them that you’re alright. I can help calm you down if you get too panicky, and I can make sure you don’t stick your tail between your legs and run away.” He winked. Alex gave a small smile
It was a long walk. Alex wanted to give up many times on their journey. But Tom forced him to keep going. They had to walk around for a bit before Alex could pick up the scent of his brother.
But now they were finally there. Right outside the house.
He wanted to run away.
He wanted to run away so badly. Tom had linked his and Alex’s arms together, but Alex just wanted to run as fast as his legs could carry him. He was terrified of Pat’s reaction. He was terrified of Paul’s too. He was gone for so long. Would they have forgotten about him?
With a steady hand, Tom rang the doorbell. Alex whimpered and hid behind Tom. It felt like an eternity passed as they stood there and waited. Then the door finally opened.
“Alex!?” Paul didn’t believe his own eyes. It couldn’t be.. Alex couldn’t be standing there, he died!
Adele often comes off as a joke. Which she’s fine with, she treats herself as one half the time. But even if she doesn’t realize it herself, there’s a lot more to her.
Living the first 5 years of her life in Pallet town did a lot of shaping of who she was as a person. Both of her parents were busy most of the time. Her dad was often in and out training to become a Pokemon Master. He was working really hard at that all of the time. It was clear that that was his number one priority. Her mom was working two jobs to try to help them be able to afford to move out of her mothers-in-law. Adele didn’t understand why she would want to move out though. Grandmas was the best! All three of them shared a room and Grandma was a really good cook and Mimey was always home.
It’s not that Adele was lonely. She just wasn’t very close to her parents. Adele spent most of her time at either at her grandma’s restaurant, the lab, or the Oaks. The Pallet House was great! Sometimes Grandma let Adele give people their orders if she promised to be really careful not to trip when doing it. Plus whenever she was there she got to spend all day with Grandma. Adele learned a lot of things from grandma there, like how she was an accident or how her dad needs to rethink his priorities unless he wants to end up like his father. Adele didn’t know what any of this meant but she knew Grandma was right because Grandma is never wrong.
Spending the day at the lab or the Oak’s meant Adele got to spend time with her friend Jean. She and Jean were besties. When they went to the lab they got to go hang out in the fields and go on adventures. Jean would always freak out saying there were going to get hurt but Adele insisted they would be fine. After all, Bulba was here with them and always saved them if they needed anything. Bulba is one of her dad’s Pokemon’s. Adele doesn’t know what type of pokemon he is but she asked him his name and he said “Bulba” so that’s what she calls him.
The Oak’s was the same except they had to stay inside all day. This is boring but if they were there it meant Jean’s mom was home and she’s the coolest. She’s a “poke stylist” which means she makes super cool clothes for pokemon and is super fashionable and cool. Dawn could work from home most of the time and since she already had Jean at home she said it was fine if Adele came over. Sometimes another boy would be here too but Adele didn’t know who he was. He kinda looked like Gary but only if Gary wasn’t really cool.
Often a lot of people would visit. The most common one was a guy named Bridge, he was more of Jean’s friends then Adele. But there were others too! Like Eclair, or Charlotte, or Elise. Adele didn’t really know to consider any of them her friends but her dad said they were her friends. Since he was friends with their parents she should be friends with their kids. It’s not that she disliked them, she just wasn’t close with them.
One day Ash came up to Adele and said they were going to move. Adele never understood why they needed to move. Apparently, it was because her grandpa (Norman) was moving up to the elite 4 and he needed someone to take over the gym. He was going to give it to Max but he already settled down and took over the Mauville gym. So that meant Adele had to move. Away from her grandmother and the Oaks.
When they settled down in Petalburg, the first thing Adele did was try to go back home. She went down to the port to try to take a boat back. None of the sailors would let her on though. She did end up making her first friend in Hoenn though! He was a sailor who worked down there. The two of them talked ‘like sailors’ till the end of the day. Her friend ended up bringing her before he had to leave for the day. Apparently, he was friends with her mom. Adele did go to see her friend at the port often though.
Adele did become a tiny bit closer to her parents when they moved. She eventually gained a younger brother and they at the very least tried (and failed) to spend every Friday night cooking together (an idea Ash got from Misty). Adele even joined her mothers coordinating course since she ended up becoming a teacher. That being said, Adele still had a clear gap between her and her family.
If anything Adele preferred it when her family was busy and she needed a babysitter. Before he left to go to ranger school, Adele’s neighbor Gale used to watch her and her brother. Adele thought he was really cool! They went on adventures in the wood and played pirates and sailors. One time he even saved her from trouble. He was like a real hero!
Eventually, Adele left to become a coordinator. She doesn’t want to admit it, but she’s like her mom in the sense of she loves to travel. Adele took coordinating very seriously. She even had a rival! Her name was Autumn and she was really mean for what Adele assumed for no reason other then to just be mean. The two were rivals fighting together at almost every contest for the entirety of Hoenn and Johto and then the ended up temporarily splitting paths.
Sinnoh is when Adele gains her first traveling partner. His name is Len. The two meet by being paired up together in Hearthome’s double contest and ended up clicking. The contest they participated in was Len’s first contest so Adele was like his mentor in a way. They decided after the contest they should travel together. After all, Adele always heard from her dad that traveling with someone else made it more enjoyable.
Adele also reconnects with Bridge and Jean in Sinnoh. It was the first time she’d seen either since she left Pallet. She was really happy to see them again. Well, she was really happy to see Jean again, Bridge will always just be Bridge.
After Sinnoh Adele and Len decided to go to Kanto together. Everything starts fine. Adele and Len travel together, they do contests, Adele reconnects with Autumn, they catch pokemon, typical stuff. But around the end of the year, Adele gets a message saying that Gale passed away during a ranger mission.
Adele’s upset to hear this news. But she manages to still get her last ribbon and participates in the Grand Festival. After the Grand Festival Len tells Adele they should take a break from traveling together because he wants to go home for his sister. The two ended up getting into their first fight. Adele tells that's stupid because “his sister is fine" while she lost someone. Len says that she wouldn't understand because she and Gale aren't related like he is to his sister. It gets pretty ugly. Adele ends up deciding to go home to mourn and spend some time alone.
Adele spent a large amount of time mopping around not doing anything. Eventually, Adele’s sailor friend from the port came to check up on her. Which only made logical sense. He was not only friends with Gale’s dad but also is Len’s dad. He was bound to hear something. Brendan set Adele aside and they talked about Gale’s death. He told her to bring her head up and gave Adele his personal swamperite.
Adele started to feel a little bit better and then Jean and Bridge ended up being in town to challenge her dad. At first, she was happy to see them but all Bridge did was yell at her for how she was “mopping around”. She didn’t want to admit it but he was right. She ended up traveling with the two of them for the rest of the region. Traveling with them was kind of weird at first because it’d been so long since she last spent large chunks of them with the two of them. She didn’t know what to talk to them about anymore. Eventually, she got used to it though and started to enjoy their company.
During Grand Festival time (which neither Adele or Len were participating) Len messages Adele to apologize for what he said. Adele apologizes back and the two decided to head to Kalos together. Though you can tell there’s some distance between them. Thankfully they two of them gained two new traveling companions, Charlotte and Elise, to help with that.
Contests Spectaculars are much different from regular contest and super contests. In Contest Spectaculars there’s the third round where the trainers are supposed to perform. Adele’s really not suited for that type of stuff. It was the first time Len had a clear edge above Adele since he has some performing background. Adele thought at least she and Autumn will be on even playing grounds but it turns out Autumn did Contest Spectaculars in the past. Adele was really behind. She was fine during the typical contest parts (the appeal and battle round) but the performance round was put right in the middle so if she messed up she couldn’t make it ahead.
Adele tried her absolute hardest to try to get used to it. She thought it was unfair and stupid contests in Kalos decided to merge with poke performances. After a lot of hard work, Adele managed to get her 5 ribbons for the Grand Festival. She was all ready to try to perform on the big day but she tripped and fell flat on her face. Adele thought it was over from there but everyone started laughing. Apparently with the reputation she built everyone thought she was intentionally being comical. It hurt to see all of her hard work was pushed aside. But it did get her to just barely making it to the battle round.
The battle round has Adele had the edge. A lot of the people participating were only into Contest Spectaculars for the performing aspect and not the contest aspects so battling isn't their strong suit. But Adele has been doing the battle aspect for years and feels she has a good understanding of it. That's not to say it wasn't an easy task. A lot of the trainers she was up against, Len included, put up a good fight. The final round ends with Adele verse Autumn. It was a close match but Adele did end up on top winning her very first Grand Festival.
Everything was going great! Adele was super happy to win, Afterwards, they went to the Kalos League to support Charlotte competing. Huh, it seems like Bridge has something he wants to say to Adele?
(I’m very surprised I never got a request for this but worry not, I’m going to give them to you anyways, regardless of whether or not you asked, ASDFGHJKL)
Alma still hates the Order with a passion, even though the execution ordered for Kanda didn’t work. He loathes it just as much as Kanda does, but he’s a lot better at not showing it (though the unmistakable fury is obvious in his eyes when he faces down people like Lvellie).
A lot of his cheerfulness is just a part of his facade. Ever since the incident at the Asia Branch, he has had a hard time experiencing a lot of true, genuine happiness. However, he’s a really good liar in this regard.
Because of this, him and Lavi get along pretty well, though there was a rocky start to the relationship after Alma made a comment in private about how Lavi acts.
Speaking of his and Lavi’s friendship, they both adore teasing Kanda, much to the swordsman’s vexation.
He was a good catalyst for Kanda and Lenalee’s friendship when they were all younger. They did pretty much everything together when all three of them were at the Order at the same time, though at the beginning Alma was dragging Kanda along with him. They were the “We Hate The Order” trio, haha
Alma’s immune system is still pretty messed up, so he can still be seen with his signature dish of pills and mayo. A lot of people don’t seem to want to be around him when he eats it for some reason (perhaps because it looks absolutely disgusting).
He has really bad motion sickness--like, borderline Dragonslayers from Fairy Tail bad, but not quite. He’ll give his travel companions puppy eyes until they either make room for him to lay down or until they let him use their lap as a pillow. It’s for the best to let him lay down because he’ll whine for a bit depending on his company, and then he’ll sleep for the rest of the journey. He looks...very at peace when he sleeps like this, assuming he isn’t having a nightmare.
Speaking of which, he suffers from horrible nightmares. It’s not uncommon to find him wandering the halls at odd hours of the night.
He, like a lot of the Order, sees some of the members as his family, even if he hates the organization itself. These people would include most people from the science division, his fellow Exorcists, and the Finders. Upper level staff members are on thin ice.
He’s the type to throw himself in front of fatal blows to protect his comrades. He figures, “hey, the Innocence treated me a whole lot worse than this, so it’s fine, and I gotta keep my friends safe”
// Me every night: I really should work on my writing, as I want to be a novelist some day and have ideas for original novels and have a current project I’m working on.
