Thoughts on Astrid having a Septum Piercing
For a punkstrid situation? Hell yeah! (photo manipulation of this perfect photo with perfect piercing for perfect punkstrid)
I'm just curious about something... I've seen good arguments for both sides, so out of Hiccup and Astrid, who do you think would be more likely to wear glasses? or both? neither?
Astrid.
100% Astrid
Here’s the thing:
A. I don’t think Hiccup would need glasses as much as… pretty much any of the HTTYD cast. Physically. He spends a lot of time observing/writing/drawing/mapping/etc. He has no problem. He doesn’t suffer headaches or struggles. Characters like Tuffnut or Snotlout who claim they ‘hate reading’ or act like they can’t do it? That’s a great in to say they have naturally poor eyesight. A great transfer to modern times. Hiccup thrives on his eyes. Sure, people can make half-assed arguments along the lines of “he spent so much time on a computer/it deteriorated/its strained”… not buying that. It has to be pre-conditioned in the first place to deteriorate by 20. Readers when he’s in his forties? Sure. Not before. That’s a stretch and a half.
B. Astrid is easier to see wearing glasses. We don’t see her employing her visions/study half as much as Hiccup. She shoves the BoD away from her with a short “read it”. She relies on reflex and senses more than anything. Her sight having a pre-disposition to deteriorate, having it go a bit by the time she’s in her twenties/thirties, but still acting as she always has… That works. And in a modern setting? With more screens and text and forced study? Yeah, she probably was given glasses in elementary school. It started out slow, and her desperation for image having her head straight to contacts as soon as she was allowed, but needing adjustments as she aged, hating this one physical weakness about her… #glasstrid, kids.
C. Glasses = Nerd is a common aesthetic theme and that’s what really killed it for Hiccup for me. The transfer of “nerd” to modern Hiccup and highlighting that with weakness and glasses? Did you not…? Understand the character or time…? There was so much OOC… I can’t go into this now I’ll just lay out a couple links: x x x
D. Astrid looks better in glasses. I won’t even say its a personal opinion. Fact. Fight me.
E. Astrid is a “jock with glasses” to go screw your stereotypes.
idk what the scenario would be
but modern!httyd au where ruffnut and tuffnut are the computer hacking experts
