Ok so I'm just throwing this out here I'm thinking about cosplaying Merida (and others) as a modern AU and I'm conflicted between - finding modern clothes that look somewhat alike to the canon outfit - finding modern clothes that the character would choose Because in the first version I'd have to find a skirt/dress thing, and it's what I would in general choose for modern AU cosplays, but I feel like Merida wouldn't really want to wear a skirt if she lived today... I'd appreciate your thoughts.

It was raining... not just raining it was pouring as if the Gods had flooded the skies above them. Many had umbrellas while others just ran through the rain to get to their destination as they were caught in the bad weather. It was early in the morning as schools were about to start though some were cutting it close to being late. One of them being Merida as she walked down the side walk her hands shoved in her dark blue jean pants as she walked towards her new school.
She was the new kid in school as she had only started about a week ago and some had already began fawning over her or even attempted to bully the 'poor' Scottish girl. She was in a rich family which put her in the upper class of the cliché's but she seemed to put on a mask in school she was far different than she let on. Letting out a sigh and tilted her head up her blue eyes looking at her school she was heading towards. The hood of her black hoodie was up over her fiery red hair that was pulled back in a loose pony tail; she hadn't wanted to deal with the stress of things today like braiding her hair or wearing 'acceptable' clothing to school she just pulled on what was comfortable to her.
Moving forward she was near the school that was a few blocks away, when she heard the groaning sounds and laughter from one of the alley ways. This stopped her in her tracks as she turned her head in the direction it came from as she adjusted her teal and black backpack on her shoulder. Seeing a boy a grade or two under her being picked on by one of the bullies she had a nice run in before with she narrowed her eyes. Her hood was hiding most of her features and she turned to walk into the alley where where the boy was being shoved and his stuff being kicked around. She had a small temper problem and bullies were something she couldn't stand ever so more often than not that's what got her in troublesome situations.
Picking up two large pebbles from the ground as she walked she made her way to the entrance of the alley way before chucking the rocks at the back of the two bullies that were tormenting the young boy. The pebbles bounced off the back of their heads and onto the ground as they groaned a bit. "Who-" One started to ask as the large jocks eyes landed on the small female figure ready with another set of rocks in her pale hands. "Leave him alone." She stated trying to calm down her Scottish accent in her words so it was harder to place who she was. "Or what?" The other blonde male asked as the dark haired one kicked the boy in the side causing him to squeak out in more pain. Not even a moment after the foot connected with the boy did the rock connect with the side of his head. She had thrown it hard enough to cut the side of his head and a bit of blood rolled down the side of his face.
Merida's voice carried out, "I said leave him alone!" She snapped, "Oh we'll leave him alone." The dark haired male stated as he moved from the boys side and was already coming after her with fire in his eyes. The blonde following in toe. She looked to the boy that was on the ground as he collected up his things and was already running for it. Good. She turned her attention back to the bullies as the were nearing her one ready to slam into her with his weight and the other ready to punch her. Her heart began racing as se side stepped the first one and brought her elbow down on the back of his head knocking him onto the ground knocked out cold. She turned her attention to the dark haired male as his fist connected with the side of her face her teeth digging into her cheek and her head snapping to the side as she stumbled backwards but stayed on her feet.
The metallic taste in her mouth confirmed that she indeed sliced her cheek open by taking that punch. She hissed out and brought her arms up in defense as her body was slammed into the wall with great force knocking the air out of her lungs. She could barely touched the ground with the tips of her black and white converse shoes. She registered that the man was mad and that he was going for the hood that was keeping her features hidden.
Scuffed Up||Modern-Hiccup
Merida couldn't go home like this, no her mother would choose a different thing to pick at her about so here she was irritated as she walked inside on of her more liked stores. She walked inside wearing her white zip up hoodie though her tank top under it was torn so she had to zip up the hoodie to hide it. Her jeans had a tear in the right knee and she was a bit dirtied up for an unknown reason. Her hair was back in a loose pony tail a few strands escaping and falling in her face. She blew a strand out of her face as she began looking through on of the clearance racks; keeping her right hand in her pocket at all times it seemed.
Merida seemed to be a bit scuffed up but hiding it even though she was dirty and there was a few red spots on her white hoodie though one could only tell they were there if they looked extra close to the detail. She could feel her cheek bone swelling a bit but she seemed to not care at the moment to look at it. She didn't care how she looked but she would sooner or later have to take care of it and there was nothing better to do. Hopefully something would come up and she could avoid going home a little longer...

Merida looked at Hiccup and blinked seeing the heart she couldn't help the small smile that came from her. She leaned forward and put her hands around his shoulders. She pressed a very gentle kiss on his lips and held it for a few moments though her cheeks were all sorts of shades of red.
((Just for the record this is AU! Merida))
AU! Modern||modern-hiccup
Merida had escaped her household's clutches again and was walking down the sidewalk her hands in her hoodie pockets. She wore a pair of dark blue jeans with a hole in the knee and a green shirt with a black hoodie over it. Her black and white converse making virtually no noise as she walked down the side walk. She seemed to have a lot on her mind as she walked. She saw a pebble and softly kicked it it jumping a bit down the sidewalk in front of her.
She wasn't paying attention at all where she was going just walking, oblivious to anything around her as she continued to walk. Her bright fiery curly hair pulled back in an impossible braid that took forever to get it into. Her eyebrows were together and she was mumbling to herself as her blue eyes looked up right in time to walk into something or someone sending her back on her butt with a groan.
