This past Friday’s music releases weren’t that plentiful so I had time to really scour my DSP to find some music that I probably wouldn’t have stumbled upon otherwise. Luckily, I came across this British-Jamaican singer who just released her album, Modern Dread. I didn’t know anything about her so I went into listening to the album completely ignorant. It is a really easy listen and this particular track was one of the stand outs for me. I don’t know how to quite describe her sound or style. This song gives me R&B, but some of the other songs on the album could border on soul and some on pop/funk. Despite me being new to her, she’s been at the music thing for quite a while now. Though she’s not quite mainstream here in the US, nowadays that holds a little more weight to me. I feel like some of the best acts are the ones undiscovered by the general public. The album is definitely worth a listen if you’re unfamiliar and she’s officially on my radar from here on out.
