I'm Entering A Fiction Contest

Hi!

If you see a reduced presence from me from now until July 1st, it is because I am entering a fiction contest! :D

I have a ton of writing and editing to do on a concept I've been drafting pieces of for a while that I may have [finally] found a home for beyond yelling them at my spouse.

The problem is I only have a little over a month to take a bunch of short stories that live across several notebooks and turn them into an actual formal piece of fiction in a way that is actually coherant.

However, I've been dying to take variations on Norse, Polish, and Irish mythology that I've been writing/ singing/ telling to Spouse Unit 1 and my child and turn it into something read-able for actual humans.

So, wish me luck as I become something of a hermit to complete an interwoven collection of short stories that will eventually - hopefully - become an actual book ... ... in the span of a month.

Feel free to tag me in stuff you want me to see, but I probably won't be *active* beyond a quick like or a comment for the next like month-ish.

Thanks for your continued support on my fics and work that I do have done on AO3. I may still update some of my stuff there from time to time, as I may use them as sort of "warm up" exercises, should I have time for that.

But, don't expect to see a whole lot of me until July 1st because I'm making this project a priority. :)

A Holiday Fable

We’re living in a land where pigs have wings Where people believe all sorts of things

Fish can jog and rocks can swim And folks will do anything on a bet or a whim

But the coolest thing that I believe is The whole world will one day be set free

Only then will all the warriors sleep all guns will misfire all politicians will weep

Santa Claus will finally come down into the ghetto where he is needed year ‘round

He’ll bring clean water and rent free homes He’ll feed hungry children and give every dog a bone

But never mind that it's just my silly dream It’ll never happen because, it seems,

They’ll arrest poor Santa on suspicion of theft Shoot holes in his sleigh and put a knee on his neck

People everywhere won’t look up from their phones Long enough to see we’ve all turned to stone

We’ll never discover we’ve been gas-lit all along Fooled into thinking our troubles are all gone

So, to all I bid you good luck aplenty If we’re ever to make it to the end of 2020!

Modern version of The Boy Who Cried Wolf where a kid randomly texts their parent too many alarming out of context song lyrics like "Mama, just killed a man" from Bohemian Rhapsody, so the parent doesn't believe them when they're actually in trouble

Fables for Our Time by James Thurber

A book of short stories written in the early 20th century. Some are retellings of old fables and fairytales. Others are originals by the author. Each concludes with a moral. Most of them are entertaining.

The second half of the book is full of well-known poems illustrated by the author. I really loved "Curfew must not ring tonight". Which was a new one for me. It reminds me of "The Highway Man" with a happier ending.

My complaint is that the morals tend too much towards the cynical.

Over the last couple days, I have had maquettes of my two characters 3D printed based on my exsiting 3D Models. I plan to finish and paint the two along with adding mockups of the fabric outfits that will be used on my puppets. This process has saved me a lot of time although it does somewhat hinder my ability to iterate without modifying the 3D prints.
