Moral relativism

She had played a dangerous game for some days now. Why was she so reckless? She risked her cover everytime she shared her emotions with him. But... She had never met another immortal besides Dimitri before. She had never met someone that could understand. He had known the pain of loss, the loneliness, he had known the way your vision of the world starts to shift as you get too old to be fully human anymore. She felt this strange attraction, something ancient and deep.
In the silence of her small office, Fish could almost hear her thoughts. Sadness, guilt, and yet... She was anxious to see him again. She was wondering, what would they talk about? Would they talk about the exhiliration of being alive? The sadness of witnessing civilisations fall? She sighed. It was a one way relationship anyway. She could not tell him how she had stopped aging. She could not share with him the fear of seeing her humanity fading. It was her weight to carry, and she could not burden him with it. For he was not a friend, of that she was sure. At the slightest opportunity, he could betray her. Would he, though ?
She was lost in her thoughts when she heard a high pitched noise. A phone notification. She grabbed it, to see an email from Jeremy Murray's assistant. Jeremy Murray... Wasn't he the head of the foundation?

Subject : Meeting at 11am
Good morning,
You are expected in Mr Murray's office at 11 am for a last minute meeting. Please confirm as soon as possible. Best regards, Joanna Smith, Mr Murray's assistant
A last minute meeting? That was the understatement of the year! It was almost 11 already! She replied quickly that she would be there, and grabbed her coat as she left her office hastily. She tried not to overthink this, but wasn't it odd that the head of the foundation would want to meet a simple PhD student? Perhaps it was protocol... But if it wasn't, this was a bad omen.
She arrived panting at Mr Murray's office, trying to gather herself. She caught her breath for a minute and went to the assistant desk. With a smile, the lady grabbed her phone to let him know she was ready to see him.
Fish arranged her hair, hoping her cheeks were not too red. “It’s probably nothing” she repeated to herself like a prayer.
