Modernettes - Confidential
MODERNETTES-"Barbra" HD restored
The Pointed Sticks, one of the first punks in Vancouver. I guess from the sound you'd be surprised that they got grouped together with the harder sounds of punk, given the punk sound that BC became better known for: hardcore in the 80s, bands like DOA, but this was back in the mid-late 70s, and Pointed Sticks would serve as the inspiration for a number of other rock and blues influenced 70s Vancouver punks who defined that era of punk rock for bands, fans and musicians in Vancouver, by making the first records, doing those first out-of-town shows first to places like Edmonton and Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon; places that nobody else, not American nor Canadian touring bands had previously stopped by regularly, but set in motion the kind of rugged, slogged punk tour that DOA would make their own. They also showed Vancouver artists that they too could start as they did, and then play shows across the border in the US. They were the Modernettes and the K-Tels (later renamed the Young Canadians). And they all took their first inspirations from The Pointed Sticks.

The story doesn’t end there as the various members moved on to play in some of the most influential punk bands to come out of Canada: DOA, the…
