Headcanon: US Papyrus Soul Sickness
Refer to Sickly Sans, Monster Souls, Health of Underswap Papyrus, Physicality, and Soul Sickness Headcanons.
Underswap Papyrus gets Soul Sick very easily. With a damaged soul and physical body, and no magical store-up, his depression often leaves him bed ridden, too weak to do much of anything. During these times, Sans is taking care of him 24/7. After Papyrus has recovered, he always gets a lecture from Sans (who is usually in tears from how passionate he gets about the topic) about how he needs to be more physically active just to counteract his damaged soul and physicality. The brothers have a borrowed wheelchair from Undyne, that Papyrus sits in, when he’s sick, that Sans rolls around fro him. They’ve mastered the art of pushing a wheelchair up and down stairs. While Papyrus is sick, he shivers a lot. Even if he’s not cold. His soul’s strain is putting strain on his body too. It’s hard for him to stay still and coordinated. When he can walk, he’s wobbly and needs things to support his weight. He can’t stand upright and will easily topple over. Papyrus has to be moved from his bed to the couch, and vise versa, on a regular basis. The air in his room is warm (which is good), but it doesn’t circulate well. Still air can make his condition worse. In the living room, on the couch, the air is circulated well, but it’s cold and drafty. There isn’t really a “perfect” spot for him at the skelebros’ house. You can watch Papyrus rapidly go from being “healthy” to being Soul Sick within seconds. His face will start out with a light flush, that will quickly engulf his face as he starts tiredly gasping for air. His shoulders will raise and his eye lids will droop. And depending on how quickly, and how intense, the Soul Sickness hits, he can either stumble his way to a seat before his legs give out, or he will collapse right on the spot. It doesn’t even have to be depression. Just any intense emotions (excluding positive emotions) can get him Soul Sick.
Headcanon: Sickly Sans
Sans and Papyrus come from a very tall family. Papyrus is the normal height of the typical family member for them. However, Sans was born a sickly child, and because of that his magic spent more time, and energy, trying to keep him alive, than it did growing his physical body. Once he got older, and was no longer constantly ill, his excess magic (that had been used to quickly building up so it could be spent just as quickly) had no where to go. This causes Sans to have a mass storage of magic, ready to expend in large amounts at a time. But his sickness as a child prevented, not just his physical body from growing, but his HP as well. Which is why he naturally only has 1 HP.
Hey, guys. I’m sorry for the lack of.. everything. I’m sick. And in a lot of pain. It’s kinda draining my energy. I’m trying to get to asks and stuff, but I might end up just replying to them with comics. For some reason drawing takes a lot less energy, on my part, than writing. Hope you guys are okay with that.
Headcanon: Origin Of Sans Puns
Sans gets uncomfortable easily. He feels anxiety a lot, but he’s long since come to understand that getting out of a lot of these anxiety-starting situations is near impossible. So to satiate himself and put his anxiety at ease, he turned to humor. More specifically: puns. It’s a nervous habit of his to rattle off puns and other jokes when he’s feeling nervous, or when he’s trying to gather his thoughts. Besides the fact that he finds it fun, it helps relief a lot of pent up stress from emotions he has to deal with a lot. Like anger or depression.
Misophonic Sans
(Before the fic begins, I’d like to say that the following is based off an actual mental illness. It’s an extremely dangerous, and fairly unknown illness. In fact, it was only recently recognized less than a decade ago. There is no cure, and the only treatment facility is in California. Because of this, it’s commonly misdiagnosed and treated improperly. Misophonia; Despite it’s name meaning “hatred of sound,” it is so much more than just a dislike for a noise. This illness forcefully triggers emotional distress within a person. It’s a form of PTSD. In mild cases, sufferers can lose control over their emotions and not understand why. They can become angry or depressed. In moderate cases, sufferers can have panic attacks. In severe cases, the patient can lose complete function of their emotions, mind, and body as the illness takes control. They can also attempt suicide in order to get away from the noise. I have severe Misophonia. The following fanfic is based off my own experiences with the illness.
Headcanon: Soul Sickness
Refer to Monster Soul, Physicality, and Heartbreak headcanons Soul illnesses and Body illnesses are two separate things. A body illness is something a monster with higher physicality is more prone to, though that doesn’t stop a less physical monster from getting them (it just lowers the chances drastically). Body illnesses include things such as: Cold, flu, diabetes, heart disease, liver failure, and pretty much anything a human can develop. The more physical a monster becomes, the more physical illnesses they become prone to. A soul illness is something brought on by mental and emotional instabilities. As a monster’s soul regulates all magical function, the more strain it takes on, the less physicality there is. The more physicality there is, the less hard a soul has to work to keep the monsters together (Aka: to keep the monsters being from splitting apart and turning to dust). Monsters need a mix of magical and physical build. If their body consists of one more than the other, their soul either becomes too strained (little physicality), or hardly needs to function, which can result it in stopping the flow of magic or becoming too weak to pump magic through the monster should something happen to their physicality. This can result in death. Anyway, back on topic... A Soul Sickness is brought on when an already strained soul is forced to also burden the task of emotional and/or mental instabilities. A monster can become sick during this time and remain ill, without the option of being healed -- because it’s an emotional distress, not a physical one -- until the monster’s soul can properly regulate the magic again. The weaker the monsters, the more dangerous this is. Monsters can die if their emotional state is too much for an already strained soul to handle.
