Got to see rhys darby at the largo last night and I’m still vibrating with how incredible it was!! Hes so charismatic and nice and the show was so fucking funny even though it was of course mostly repeat bits. They felt totally new just from the energy he brought to them!

Personal highlights include:

- getting a high five right at the start of the show

- he did the bit about getting lost in the army training thing

- the sheer amount of applause he got just overall oh wow he deserves it

- pronouncing Puerto Rico with just a LOT of flavor and saying yeah Vico helped me pronounce that right and proceeding to say it every chance he got

- someone’s phone timer went off behind me which meant rhys stared at us, leapt off the stage, and was came over to stare at us all and be like okay who was it who was it give it to me, shoulda let me pick up it mighta been a good conversation

- him just very sweetly talking about rosie for a second like I kept waiting for a punchline but he was just like I’m so lucky to have someone who loves me and who accepts me :,)

- Watching him laugh at his own jokes more and more into his second beer

- Seeing everyones very cool gay looks they put together

- waiting with a handful of people afterwards and waving at rhys from the car window and nearly falling out of it

writer’s weakness

what are your bad writer habits, friends? make me feel better about the fact I change tense like a madman and write way too much exposition at the start of each drabble.

Thinking about autistic ed and fabric,,,like ed clearly loves soft things very much and the way he rubbed the fabric right on his face I saw that and felt such violent OH THATS ME feelings immediately and the way he had to feel like every single one of stede's clothes when he shows him the secret closet,,,the way he kept that little slip of silk for like his entire life,, i dunno

FUUUCJ CRAWLING UP THE WALLS BITING THE FURNITURE THROWING THINGS

Ok i just woke up so this might not be very coherent but im thinking about the kiss again.

So, we know that ed shows his feelings through actions, you could say his love language is physical touch. Which of course it makes sense that he initiates the kiss because it’s an action. And Stede shows is feelings through words, and this ends up with fun situations like the moonlight scene where stede doesn’t realize how much his actions are speaking to ed. Or how significant they are. Anyway, the kiss scene is interesting because stede prompts the little what makes ed happy comment because he’s about words!!! But then but then!! We get to the really devastating part of this!!

Because when stede leaves, what is ed supposed to believe? What stede said or what he did? Ans he knows that in stede’s world, people say sweet things and they don’t mean them, they’re passive aggressive. So he believes the action, that stede left him, it’s concrete it’s what he knows. And when stede is separated from ed and he hears someone telling him all of these horrible things about himself, without much in the way of verbal reassurance from ed he takes what he knows too. And I’d say for both of them they’ve become each others’ support very quickly, the very easy way ed immediately took to squashing any doubt stede had of being good enough. And the way stede took to telling ed how good he is, how he is not a lost cause and deserves softness and safety. Without the other to chime in, those two events, chauncy talking to stede and stede leaving, were overpowering.

In the vein of various ofmd characters/groups living in different genres, I find it really interesting that the most violent thing we ever see ed actually do is to izzy. Because as people have pointed out izzy’s genre is much darker and more violent, when people get stabbed they get stabbed, when someone cuts a toe off they cut a toe off. And when ed becomes the kraken he’s going back to izzy’s world, the one we see him in at the start before he’s introduced fully. Izzy dragged him back into his genre, no more feelings and no more games
