The Brunchables got upgraded to the 5.5 the speech pathologist gave me. Eventually we’ll add some shrimps toooooooo

Now we pray I don’t kill the delicate Utricilaria Graminifolia and that it roots so I can move the stones back to their stepping stone formation. Can’t wait to watch little shrimps walk up it.

This big black molly baby has earned the name Shadow. I'll tentatively call it a "she" because it hasn't developed the pointed anal fin, but she's still very young and I don't think she's sexually mature yet.

Shadow follows Luna around, and the other 3 baby mollies follow Shadow (the 4 mollies have been together since birth). I'm not an expert on molly behavior other than knowing they are pretty social and like being in groups, but Shadow has started mimicking Luna's behavior, including viciously chasing the neons around the tank before getting distracted by algea to graze on. It's interesting to see, none of the other mollies do this. Big Mama chases her own babies and the platties in the 20g, but usually only during feeding time.

Maybe Shadow thinks Luna is an adult molly since there are none in the tank, so she's instinctively trying to swim with her. Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ fish are wonderful and fascinating creatures. As long as nobody takes a bite out of someone's fin I'd say they're fine.

MY MOLLY JUST GAVE BIRTH?? Uhm help ? Do i need to separate them? There are tetras and mollies in that tank should i move them somewhere till theyre big enough not to be eaten? What do i even feed them? I was not prepared to be a grandma

Hey there anon! I’m gonna be totally honest with you: I haven’t personally kept mollies (or other live bearers) and I’ve never taken care of fry personally, so this is stuff that I’ve heard/read before and some stuff that I checked by googling, so I encourage you to do some research of your own in addition to reading the answer to this ask <3

If you weren’t prepared to be a grandma, that’s OK! :pTo be totally honest with you, if you didn’t know your molly was pregnant, or she wasn’t already in a breeder box and the fry are already somewhere in your tank, you have a few choices.1. Buy a breeder box/net and try to catch the fry and keep them in the breeder box so they won’t get eaten.2. Provide as much cover as possible since the fry are already out and about in the tank. Some of them will get eaten (some of them have probably already been eaten), but there’s usually at least one or two that make it to adulthood. If your intake is uncovered, or just has slits up the intake pipe, you’ll need to buy an intake/prefilter sponge so that no fry get sucked up.3. Do nothing. Again, there’s usually at least one or two fry that will somehow escape all the hungry adults, but if your tank is fully stocked, or if you don’t want to upgrade your tank to accommodate 5-10+ new fish, then there’s nothing wrong with doing nothing.

If you’re wondering what to feed the fry, I’m not totally sure but usually freshly hatched brine shrimp is a go-to food. If you don’t have a brine shrimp hatchery all ready to go, you can probably try crushed up flakes/pellets or frozen food like frozen brine shrimp (they might be able to nibble at it since it’s soft after its defrosted…)

I've always wanted to raise a fish from fry so I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!!! I'm going to love these fish so much. They're all so adorable. If anyone has any advice I'll take it. I'm reading up a ton but I'm open to help. I NEED these fish to survive to adulthood
