Mystic arts are definitely still a part of it — the competitors just aren’t allowed to critically injure/kill their opponent anymore.

The reigning champion does get benefits, like free admission to any Nexus store/event/etc. Basically Mondo gets to stay at the hotel for free, check out the museum when he wants, stuff like that.

Fun fact about Mondo Tilley — Tokay geckos are known for their unique calls, which is where the name “tokay” comes from. Mondo’s mystics involve sonokinesis, and the sounds he makes in the comic above is a move he’s famous for, and actually part of the tokay call. Three quick “tek tek tek”s as buildup to two blasting syllables that have the strength of a grenade.
