The BAA (Birmingham Animation Awards)

I saw this film before at a bafta screening at the start of the year however now I got a second chance to analyse it and break down the meaning behind the story. The story for me was about the decline the the USSR's part in the space race between America.

My main reason for thinking this is because the tv was always tuned to American efforts in out-a space and also the common miss-conception that Russia's cosmonaut program was the only to use animals in testing (since they were the first I guess)

Another theme that was apparent to me was the play on animal testing. Because the film had a rather bitter sweet tone that the monkey was happy to be in the efforts for space travel it hid that plain fact that people are using animals.

When the monkey is seen to have an emotional attachment to this inanimate object it's sweet until you know what it is; which it's a test to see how the monkey reacts to solitude (within a confined cockpit of a space rocket) So in my take of dissecting this short film it's about the decline of the Russian space efforts and to a latter extent the USSR nation and then secondly the animal testing and the efforts of animals in our safety... I think.
