monster club pidge things: when she first wakes up as a wendi she tries so hard to walk normally but eventually decides climbing tress is much easier. freaks out about being starving and then even more freaked out when she realises there's a human arm next to her and laughs and sighs and then screams. lance and hunk hear this. she is pacing around on a tress branch freaking out. more so when she sees a weird fish monster and rock person coming her way. she grabs a stick and points it at them.

pidge: “i don’t know who you are but i need my laptop right now” hunk, slightly freaked out by her appearance and the point stick: “we don’t have technology like that or even access to human wifi” pidge: “I was human once! i don’t remember how i got here and like this… but still!” lance thinking of all the ways humans can turn cryptid, ruling them out: “HOLY CROW THAT MUST MEAN” he hides behind hunk. “you’re not gonna eat us, right?!” pidge, smiling: “depends” hunk: “she can only eat people”

Hunk: DON’T POINT THAT AT ME I’M SOFT AND VULNERABLE

Also Hunk: *is literally made of rock*

lmfao that was a wild ride for Pidge.  Lot of emotions come out when you find out you ate the dean of your school.  Pidge doesn’t really find her voice for a while after she becomes a cryptid--it’s hard to reconcile a human voice with becoming an inhuman monster.  She kind of has to reconcile what she was--college kid, cryptid blogger, small but determined--with what she now is--hungry, strong, and the thing in the dark that used to fascinate her in a clinical, scientific way.

I love the idea of Hunk and Lance just standing there for a minute trying to figure out what the FUCK this tiny tree gremlin is.

Hunk helps Kuro work on his dexterity by getting him to help knead bread and mix things in the kitchen.  

Kuro is the only one who can even come CLOSE to lifting Hunk (the Alteans can do it when they work together, but it always results in clay dust in their feathers and they don’t like it)--Kuro can carry Hunk for about five seconds, which is five seconds longer than anyone else.

Sometimes Kuro and Hunk bond over the fact that they’re the only ones allowed to touch Keith, which annoys Keith to no end.  They make it up to Keith by bringing him cookies and things so that he won’t just kick them out.

Hunk and Kuro made a game once where they grab Pidge and toss her back and forth if she’s being particularly nasty about something.  They are the only ones who can get away with this.  They are also the only ones who can pick her up and give her a bath after a meal, though they have to catch her first.

Hunk is really fond of picking up fruits when they’re out on missions to bring back to Kuro.

Kuro gets really antsy when Keith goes out on his own, but when Hunk goes with him Kuro trusts that they’ll be safe together.

Hunk LOVES baby Kuro, and will carry him around and nuzzle his little face to make him laugh.

When Lance startles Kuro or makes him uncomfortable, Hunk always comes to the rescue and diffuses the situation.

Sometimes when the others are out on missions, Kuro and Hunk will lay in the leaves outside the castle with shades on and just enjoy the sunlight.

...aaaand when Keith is in the tomb, the two most common figures waiting for him outside are Kuro and Hunk.

in lots of books and such, hell is described as being cold, but what if only the pure centre is?! so like, and galra, being all sybomlic and evil, built their main base right on top of a rift that goes right into the centre of hell. of course, none of them know. they send everyone on separate missions inside the base (mostly to gather info) keith and hunk are sent on a mission together to explore the underground tunnels to see if there's an easy way in and out if they ever want to attack 1/???

it starts to get cold, but nothing he can't handle. until... keith tries to summon his hellfire to warm himself a bit (he also wants practice). it's bright blue and hard to control and he just assumes he needs more pratice. He asks Hunk if he's cold but Hunk can't feel it. Keith doesn't suspect anything serious, considering that he's not on fire. hunk gives him a strange look so keith doesn't bring it up again, but it's getting worse, until he can't walk anywhere anymore 2/???

his eyes go black and his skin turns blueish gray. hunk is scared, if it's a hellrift, shouldn't he be on fire and not freezing to death?! but he quickly tries to warm keith up with his own kiln. keith isn't changing much, but for some reason he's too heavy for hunk to move... then he realises keith is literally frozen to the 'cave' floor and it won't melt, and he sees bones engraved in the rock walls hunk wonders what kind of 'being' hell really is... and why would it want to do this... 3/3

fine: hunk usually acts as a ambassador for the balmearas at fae parties because they'd much rather have him around than a human-diluted creature. SO they use this fact and have him talk to some galra leader while the others sneak into their base to take supplies and stuff they get caught, and unknowningly, after they Escape, that leader plans to attack balmera to get everything back that was stolen from them

...okay, joking aside, this 100% happens more than once.  Though not really with Galra leaders, it’s more like... the team tries to be diplomatic and help some Fae creatures who promptly sell them out to the Galra, Rolo and Nyma style.

They send in Hunk because Hunk is good with Fae technology, and also the Fae don’t hate him like they hate the Cryptids on the team.

Though maybe they do try to distract one of the Galra Court members once.  Hunk and Pidge repurpose a Galra sentry-golem (they’re made of stalagmites that grow in the Galra cave systems) and he and Coran use it to sneak into Galra territory and cause a diversion while the rest of them steal a boat full of Galra supplies and enchantments and things.

Still, I doubt that this is where the damage to Balmera comes in.  I’m still willing to bet that it’s more likely another Fae refugee/runaway from Galra slavery set them up and sold them out.

And the second time you can BET that Hunk was telling the team nonstop that he had a FEELING, damnit, he just KNEW those nasty Fae had something fishy about them (Lance wants to protest, but... Lance was the reason the Fae managed to break into the Castle in the first place, so....) he KNEW they should have turned them away--!!

Fool me once, as they say.  Hunk is salty.

What really trips him up is when he goes to visit the Balmerans some of them are so scared of what the Galra do that they tell him to leave and never come back, lest he bring the Galra down on them again... Rax, for instance, is very vocal about this.  He KNOWS the havoc that the Galra can wreak, and now that Hunk is a paladin (still don’t have another word for it, idk, does paladin sound fantasy enough for this?) of the Lions his coming back to Balmera puts them all in danger.

Shay tries to keep her brother from saying these things, from banishing Hunk from the village, but... it still hurts.

It hurts a lot.

heck this AU is completely anon-driven, YOU make the angst you want to see in the McAU

though i wouldn’t say there’s no Hunk angst?  Partly just because there’s some hecka Heith angst and Hunk has to go charging into Hellrifts to fetch Keith’s dead body.

BUT ALSO

the boy has to decide between his loyalty to Balmera and his mission at the Castle?  Lance gets knocked out by a Galra explosive charm and Hunk/Coran leave him with Kuro and Shiro to go to Balmera and get things to save him.  And they find that the Galra are attacking Balmera.  And Hunk has to decide whether to join his fellow Golems and help their fight, or to return to the Castle and Lance.

THAT is some Hunk angst, my friend.

He and Lance both left their homes, and though they did it MOSTLY willingly, still doesn’t mean they don’t miss them.
