I can't rule Adnan out as a suspect just because he'd never murdered anyone before Hae was killed.
THAT WE KNOW OF (I might watch too much Investigation Discovery).
monsterbeard replied to your post “Look, I do believe that the case against Adnan is pretty flimsy and I...”
Dude but what about Jay?
I wanted to paint him as a suspect until today but I just don't see it anymore! The only reason he'd frame Adnan is if he or someone he knew was a suspect and I just haven't seen that!
my better halves.
Meanwhile, Casey is chilling at Intelligencia Coffee in Silverlake, in LA on business. He is getting to meet monsterbeard and beenthinking in person before I do, and I am so damn envious. I have a top 10 list of People From The Internet I Want To Meet, and those two are at the top of the charts. Isn’t it weird how much you can genuinely and fiercely adore people you have never actually met in person? I sometimes forget that we haven’t. Belum. In shallah.
They are all going to a show at UCB tonight. Casey loves this podcast called Put Your Hands Together with Carmen Esposito, and they do a live show. Those fine folks are going to join my fine husband and I am going to wallow from a distance.
Great suggestions, everyone, thank you! Watchlist updated. As for today, I'll probably be watching Zodiac and/or Milk, as soon as I get my apartment to a reasonable level of parent-visiting cleanliness. Too bad more of them aren't on Netflix. I bolded/starred the ones that are, and would definitely definitely definitely recommend The Conversation. Coppola! Hackman! Cazale! Mid-70s post-Watergate paranoia! What's not to love?

Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco! Just kidding ... Maybe. The adult in me says Dirty Harry

The Room. Or Vertigo. Take your pick.

Zodiac (though it's kind of all over the Bay Area).

X-Men 3 is the only one I remember. I almost said Godzilla, cause it's always California or NYC getting fucked up by some monster.

Something of a consensus here
Especially with The Thing, appropriately enough, since that was where this question started (with Anthony saying "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE THING?" and me not having a very good reason why I haven't). Thanks, everyone. A Carpenter mini-marathon is officially on the books.

I love Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York, Assault on Precinct Thirteen. Big Trouble In Little China is a guilty pleasure. Don't watch Vampires or In The Mouth Of Madness :)
monsterbeard answered to your post:
The Thing is essential. Escape from New York. They Live. Those are great. All Carpenter films are cheesy in some way or another though.
why-things-are-terrible answered to your post:
I can confirm The Thing is essential viewing for anyone ever born.

Trying to think if anything I've seen of Carpenters that I didn't like...I love Vampires but it was weaker than his early work (He had Dean Cundey as DP til Spielberg stole him for Jurassic Park) Escape from LA was weaker too (but fun if you've seen Esc. NY) My top recommendations are Escape From New York, Halloween, and The Thing. I liked Big Trouble in Little China. They Live is solid.

Essential: Big Trouble in Little China
thiscozyskull replied to your post:
Halloween and The Thing were essential viewings in my Horror film class.
recoveringhipster answered to your post:
Halloween, Escape from New York, and The Thing are the best entry points. Avoid Ghosts of Mars at all costs.
claireity answered to your post:
The Thing , absolutely.
